There's definitely a place for these. I think many casual buyers dont actually care about the 'tool' factor, especially at this price. Some of the divers do look a bit too serious/professional, making them appear less versatile. This can be a good summer casual watch with just good enough specs to enjoy at the beach. And even though they're jumping on the bandwagon, how many other options do we have at this price that meet the 'style' criteria? Not many from mainstream brands, although microbrands are killing it these days! Great video as always!
Yep. I think what is watch nerds forget is that most people are never going to buy a watch from an unknown brand online unless it’s super cheap. 350 bucks is way more than most would pay so considering Ali express or micro brand alternatives is an enthusiast endeavor. These watches aren’t targeting us really. The Willard is targeting us and they’re certainly selling those quite well
I prefer my $100 blue steeldive skx. Blue sunburst dial, date only, sapphire crystal, blue and lumed ceramic bezel insert, solid caseback, brushed hands, screwdown crown and 200m of claimed water resist.
Did I mention the bracelet is milled with solid end links? I have mine on a Navy nato to keep the weight down as I typically wear smaller watches.
This watch I’ve reviewed here just shows how the likes of SteelDive have risen!
I got the SRPD59 with the orange dial and I personally love it! I regulated it with a Weishi 1000 and
I’m getting +2 seconds per day average! Seiko makes some great time piece for sure and at 300$ canadian shipped to my door with taxes included is a great deal for me!
✌🏼😎👍🏼
Y’all are haters, Seiko is definitely the best budget watch you can buy pound for pound.
You obviously don’t know the channel brother
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR ok I’ll back out. Sorry.
Citizen kinda better nowadays
While I agree on most points, there are very few
If the Orient Kamasu or Makos or Rays were 38mm I definitely buy one
@@EarlyNai Yes, in a heartbeat
I actually have an Orient Kamasu and have a 6.25 inch wrist. It wears pretty good, not bad at all
The 41,5 mm orient is perfectly fine on a 6,25 inch wrist..
Sorry to disagree. I feel my Ray 2, just wears a bit too big on my small wrist. Which is gutting as I absolutely love the blue sunburst.😭
As a small wristed fellow, I longed for the skx013 for years as I had just missed it when I joined the hobby. I couldn't find an affordable diver for so long until I found the San Martin sn004 from your review! I ordered it and love it. As how my luck goes, this SRPK was released a few days after I ordered my San Martin. At 3x the cost of the San Martin and subpar side grades from the SKX, I don't feel so bad anymore!
Yikes, £300 is a bit steep! Save your money and buy something you really want instead. Great review as always MWC 👏
Thanks my friend! Will do!!!
Great show! Kudos to Francis and Gaye for continuing to send you watches even if you roast them! Bravo all around!
Ryan and the team have been phenomenal!
Yeah, that had crossed my mind too in the "wait a minute...aren't they trying to sell these watches!?" type way..but yeah, cool to see TMC getting a free reign 👍
Yeah I agree but They're going to sell no matter what,
The reason why Seiko went with the golden hands on the teal and orange dials is that I seriously think this is more of a reinterpretation of the Seiko 7548-700C (from the 80s) and not the SKX013, and that watch had 4 colors (black, white, teal and orange) and it looked exactly like this new one .. Google it and you’ll see that the Orange and Teal versions from the 80’s had golden hands.
Cheers my friend! I knew the colours referenced the old ones but had no clue on the handset! Lucky that the Teal is in fashion then ay;)
OK but the question remains - why did the teal dial have gold hands to begin with? IMHO it looks very nice and adds warmth where teal and steel are very cold, but I know most people hate it.
@@mr22guy that’s the real question!!!!!
great catch! but at least with those models the bezel also had the gold accents, tying things together. One these, the gold handset just look out-of-place (almost like they were put on the wrong watch). Maybe it'd look better if they'd've added gold to the bezel as well.....
Isn't this Seiko the same as skx013 but it's 10bar instead of 20bar? It won't make a difference unless you're professional diver. And they have more colour options. The orange looks very good and unique :)
I am totally on board with your just say no to Seiko. Actually I’ve had that attitude for a while now. I currently own six Seiko watches. The last one I bought being the SARB033 in 2018 (when Amazon was blowing them out the door for around 200 bucks). Since then I have seen no reason to buy another Seiko. They have dumbed down the quality while raising prices. I have honestly gotten higher quality watches from San Martin during the past three years at less than half the price off the average popular Seiko offering.
Agreed. Seiko, the former budget king, has laid down the crown and buggered off. Charging far more in recent years without giving anything much in return. If every watchmaker were doing the same thing maybe they could get away with it, but that's not what's happing. It's obvious that sapphire crystal should be on virtually all watches. It's obvious that a nicely finished case isn't cost prohibitive. It's obvious a decent bracelet can be made for under $30. It's obvious because some companies can do these things.
Yep ! Seiko are their own worst enemies for sure! They are the reason the likes of San Martin have risen so prominently!
Even when they were budget kings I never really rode that seiko fan train. They always had something lacking. Weather it was a sub par bracelet or a bezel that didn’t line up I was always left wanting. I never really understood how seiko people would give seiko a break and defend them so vigorously where any other brand these fanatics would tear up for the same issues. There is a lot of tribal group think going on in the watch community.
@@WordMadeFlesh777
It’s their case designs and their gorgeous dials.
I’ve enjoyed every Seiko I owned, mostly divers.
There was always something up with the alignment, but the overall design and comfortable wear were big pluses for me personally.
Still regret selling my Sumo.
One step forwards and two back. If they had updated the SKX it would have been a winner, it was iconic, these are chronic. Great show as ever. 👍
Cheers Jim!!!!
If the SKX had drilled lugs and this movement. One can dream.
Orient nailed it with latest Kamasu and New Triton... Saphire Crystal, 20bar, better accuracy....
I get that some really like to have their display case backs...but it's situations like this, among others, that really made me wish that options were made available to have it with classic case backs instead of only having displays available. Funny thing, this is part of why I can't get behind the current Prospex Alpinist - another famed Seiko (gee, a pattern is coming along here), I liked it better with a fully closed case and that nice Alpinist engraving.
I’m with you my friend!
Seiko has been replace by Orient for good entry level dive watch. Same Epson group, new strategy. An honest review like usual, good job. For this price buy an Orient Kamasu and a good Jubilee bracelet.
Definitely! I had an Orient Kamasu recently and I wouldn’t trade it in for this and I’d say 100 smackers!!
I agree with your point about Orient, but there are also quite a few Chinese brands that are putting out quality entry level watches. They just need to add more original designs and they will become more accepted by the watch community.
The teal colour is a nod to the pretty rare model of the old 7548 series. No band wagon jumping here. The teal was produced by Seiko in the 80's before the influx of the modern teal variants by other brands. If you know your seikos then you'll know that the 7548 variants were the precursor to the skx models. As for the price, it'll drop to virtually half its msrp within 6 months.
Exactly! If you search for 7548-700c you will know the reason for gold accent handset.
Superb thank you my friend!
I don't know what it is about a lot of SKX owners feeling the need to dismiss everything that comes after but I honestly find it frustrating. I own a classic SKX and yes it is a fun watch, but the newer Seiko 5's are really awesome too and in many ways far and away better than the classic models. The one and only thing you lose is the extra water resistance but come on people, nobody was or is going diving with a mechanical watch! I far and away prefer to have hand winding and hacking. Plus the applied markers on the newer models look way more elegant. Yes, the SKX is awesome, but that doesn't mean these new models are inferior. As for the price, we all know in about a year these will be all over the place for far less. That's the way it has always been with Seiko.
I think it’s the fact that my 013 , being ISO certified meant it wasn’t only tested under water , it was also temperature tested and shock tested . These new ones are dive style watches, getting an iso certification costs money and Seiko cheapened the legacy of the SKX . Now to be honest for the sake of shifting a ton load of colour and dial references of these 5 sports models offering similar entry level specs from like the 90’s but charging 300 pounds . It don’t sit right with me my friend. Hope that answers your question . Thanks for watching
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I totally get that, but let's also be real here for a second. Hardly anyone is going to paying full price for these just a few months down the line. That's the way it ALWAYS is with Seiko. I bought an SRPD for about $110 when they were retailing for nearly $300. So calling this out because the price is too high isn't going to be the reality for a lot of people. I agree, the old SKX line is awesome. I too love it. But for people just getting into watches now they aren't going to find one for the prices you and I probably paid. The current Seiko 5 line is still an AWESOME value, especially if you dig a little bit and shot around.
I totally agree with a lot of the points here. Months later after their release im able to pick up any of these colours in Australia for about 170 pounds (after converting from aud). The lume pip missing is a sad omission, I think even in a diver style watch, that’s basic functionality of the watch completely gone when in the dark. I don’t expect at the price that I’m buying it for, to have screw down crown and 200+ wr or sapphire crystal. But man, at least give us full functionality of the dive bezel. Still, for the price you can find that at now, it’s a good deal.
I love your show. I have been waiting for Seiko to to produce a 38 mm in the black version. This watch was never produced to replace any watch. It stands own its own and it is an impressive and a handsome watch. I am buying it!
I just got the black one to wear as my main daily and I'm over the moon with it.
The 38 looks quite compact on your 6.5" wrist, so I am sure it would be quite diminutive on my 7.25" wrist. That being said, it's a great release and I love the teal color option. The gold hands seem like they had spare gold tone parts and threw them on there though. Quite puzzling. I like gold tone, but it has to go with the overall design. It's too bad Seiko couldn't have upgraded the SKX with the bracelet from the Seiko 5 GMTs (reportedly better than the SKX's though I've not had a chance to try it), hand-wind/hacking 4R movement, applied markers (same size), drilled lugs, and the bigger hands. I think that would have been quite the upgrade.
I’m getting reports that it was infact the same on a vintage Seiko diver! A predecessor to the SKX. So if that’s the case, it gets a pass
I totally agree with you. The watch is to expensive. But don't forget. Nobody should buy a Seiko for the regular price.
20% discount should not be a problem.
Exactly. 20% is about the minimum too. Depending on the exact reference and where you look (and how long a model has been out), you can get up to $100 or more off MSRP with Seiko 5's. Both the SRPE67 and SRPD91 I got new for over $100 off MSRP.
Good point!!
300£? I thought the 5 series was supposed to be cheap. 🤨
With only 10bar WR, I’ll take a PRX over this. I prefer a sports watch that’s a sports watch rather than a sports watch styled to look like a dive/snorkeling watch.
SKX is still super charming though.
Definitely still charming ! Seiko’s looks are always great!
The price should fall to when the dust settles.
Srpk33k or tissot prx quartz?
@@uzunsaclkeladam7824 I would go with the PRX Quartz. But, I haven’t, at least not yet. The 40mm is a bit big for the style and the 35mm is a bit small. I think I might eventually get the 40mm quartz in blue, with the blue leather strap. I do love that look. 😄
@@khulgarulfsson8067 yea i got same problem. Probably 37 or 38 mm option would be the best offer. I have 6.25 inch wrist. I cannot decide which fit perfectly more.
No wife’s reaction? Always love her takes on watches! Another great video!
Toothpaste, looks cheap
I just picked it up for $210 in my country after a discount from AD and these models are priced similarly to any other Seiko 5. The pricing in Europe is crazy, just wait for a few months and pick it up once the price goes down similar to the 36mm field models.
About the colors and gold hands in the orange and teal versions, all the the colorways are reissue of the 38mm 7548-700c quartz diver from the early 80s.
The 7548-700c had matching gold markings on the bezel, right?
This is great my friend! I did know the orange one was a reference to a vintage pre SKX! But not the hands! Or the teal!
@@brianmccord7387 They had few variants over their production period. Both the color version came with gold markings on the bezel as well as white markings. There are quite a few 700c references. I have a orange with white marking from 1983 that I picked up few years ago.
@@Nightfury0695 that’s very interesting. Thanks so much.
I just bought the teal color for £184 and I think it’s a great value apart from Beeing beautiful ( I like the gold framed handsets🤣) thank you for your video🙌
I think that is very decent value!
Seems there are some retailers around now that are selling these at that price. Got me the black one for exactly the same amount. I have no complaints for that price 👍🏻
Regarding the gold accent hand set, I know it’s odd. But if you search for 7548-700c you will know the reason for that.
I ordered mine for a discounted price of €250
Absolutely makes total sense now! Thank you my friend! But weird even for back then?!?!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Totally agree. Black accents would’ve made it great.
It's funny. I've gone from owning Sinns, Tudors, Grand Seikos and more recently a Seiko SLA057 to now just owning a few Seiko 5's. I absolutely love the way the DressKX and 5KX wears and looks. 100m is plenty good for snorkeling with sea turtles down in the Caribbean (which I did just recently with my DressKX). I love the old SKX, but I actually kind of prefer the dial of the new 5KX (heresy to many). I have a 6.25 inch wrist and the new 38mm version is very intriguing to me. Love the fact that it's 20mm lug width as well. Will probably pick one up if nothing else to see how it compares to my 42mm version. Who knows, I may like the smaller size better.
similar thoughts (and wrist size) here. The size and it being not so thick (12mm) piques my curiosity. Was contemplating either this or the new upcoming 35mm PRX series.
@@sivab4536 Would love to try one of those 35mm PRX some day. That's a design that is well suited for a smaller case size.
I did my friend
You’re still better off getting a 38mm Islander diver from LIW for $299. I’m happy with my Pepsi-bezel ISL-49. Your channel definitely played a part in my decision to buy one!
Can’t disagree here 😊
We forget the fact That we are talking about a 250€ watch… for that price we are getting the best entry level mechanical watch ever. Inflation is a reality so they needed to do some prices cuts. I’m happy with my SBSA025, I got it for 190€ in Japan.. and I couldn’t be happier…
Microbrands have shown us EVEN YOU!!! That for 3/400 pounds you can get a watch with a 4 hertz movement, solid links, solid end links and a Sapphire glass. Listen I love Seiko!!! But it’s ok to be annoyed with them once in a while!!! There’s a new Seiko 5 coming out which I am very much looking forward to!!!!
I'll stick with my sarb033 for an everyday sports watch beater. Bought it for $350 in 2018, and it blows the socks off these new releases.
My first mechanicals/automatics were Marathon's. Use to be a huge Seiko fan but recently sold my last one due to no longer wearing them.
;(
Thanks TMWC. You just save me £300 . I was really close to buying one but I held off so I could hear some reviews. In my mind thats £300 that I can now put towards a more expensive watch that's on my wish list.
Possibly think so my friend! It’s a shame. There will be more colourways definitely! I may not be able to say no then!!!
I upgraded my broken skx007 movement with the NH36 a few years ago. Hacking and hand winding for £30 on top of the £140 I paid for the watch. I also put in sapphire and ceramic for another £50. All looks like the original, didn't mod per say because it's just such a great watch. Modern entry level Seiko's are a bit of a joke to me. These are basically toys for £300, when just a few years ago you got a proper classic dive watch for £150
I'd really like this style of watch for an everyday wear. Work, beach, wherever. With a 6.5" wrist, size really has to come in to play. And there are not a lot of options in this price range, or style. (I'll take any suggestions you might have.) I started with the Orient Kamasu 2, but found out about this. I checked a few places in town, but they weren't carrying it. Think I'm going to pick up the black one, and it will probably take a bit of a beating. But for three hundredish, at least I'm not destroying a BB. I am entry level, but I'm here.✋ love the craziness..🤪 Stay Mad👍
Thank you my friend!
I know the price on these seems high but you will never pay that. You can find them for about $220 usd all day. For that price I think it’s pretty good. I just got the white dial version. For the retail price it’s defiantly a pass but if you get it for that cheaper price I think your doing well. I do miss the 013 though!!
Russell you drive me nuts when you change the day and date in the danger zone! ❤ Cracking video. Thank you! 😊 ⌚️
Sorry!!!! I don’t seem to care when it’s a Seiko!!!!! I knew I had gone into AM to though!;)
i see that this color is still the flavor of the week. i got my seiko riders chronograph. i cant wait to get rid of it!
I really appreciate this video, because the Seiko website makes the teal version's hands look like they're lined in a jaunty yellow, not gold!
I had to get one. It’s great. Runs -2 spd. Lovely little watch for a few hundred bucks. Bezel alignment’s out by a bee’s you know what. Bracelet is horrible, put it straight onto a nato. But what do you want at this price. We Seikopaths tend to expect a $5000 watch for $300! Dig your channel.
Congrats my friend! More and more micros are showing what can be bought with 3/400 smackers. The game is up and it’s plainer to see than it ever has been! You spend a few hundred quit, you shouldn’t want to take the bracelet off the moment you get it. You shouldn’t accept misalignments . We should accept Seiko making Dive style watches in 2023?!?!? I started my journey with A Seiko because it packed a punch for history, looks and value. If I started today, the new entry Seiko’s would not be on my radar which is a shame!
I hear you brother but it’s still a ripper. So much so I had no choice but to drop full retail on pre-order for the peanuts version!!
I’m addicted to the teal I’ll prob buy it or the RZE teal! I can’t get enough of this color.
Tempted to buy the cream dial version (SRPK31). But I would rather that the original SKX's were still available. My first automatic was a black Orient Kamasu and I'm still loving that. I suspect one of these new Seiko 5 divers will be added to my collection soon
I just bought by daughter the GM2100CB-1A. Oh my God have you seen this thing in person yet? You've got to get one. I've got to get one. I might steal hers... no, wait, that would be wrong of me
Phew! Our MWC is back to his brilliant best. A professional watch critique we can trust, all the good with no flinching on the bad either. I love my Seikos, but there are too many sitting rejected in watch display cases of my local ADs, with small but annoying faults, (mostly bezel related). Quality control is out the window I'm afraid and with the gradual price increases, this will only make Seiko less and less appealing.
It’s a sad state of affairs! Problem for me is that I love the looks of all Seiko sports watches!!!;)
I just love listening to you talk! So entertaining I love it! Keep up the good work!
Very kind !!! Thank you!
Its sad that they discontinued the skx013 line.. got one on the 2nd hand market back in 2016 when large diameter watches were all the craze
I would have made it a bit more expensive, but better made. The size is great, but to make a comparison: in the summer of 2022 I bought a King Turtle Save the Ocean Limited Edition on discount for about 400 EUR. It has sapphire , ceramic bezel, 200 m WR, good solid bracelet and a dial to die for (manta ray, deep blue)
Better things to spend 300 quid on ! Think I'll just upgrade the movement on my trusty old Seiko 5 instead just to get hand winding. That was the first 'real' watch I bought so it's close to my heart ~ it's a beautiful dial with raised chapter ring ~ and it was a lot more affordable at 75 pounds.
Thanks for watching my friend!
I usually don't like your videos and haven't watched lately, but i liked this one, don't know what you did but i enjoyed this video far better than the older ones
Something older i DO like are the vintage seikos Skyliner 6100 and Lord Marvel 5740 hibeat wich i love
Tom! All I can say is thank you for coming back! With ever show I try to refine what I’m doing ! May not seem it at times but…. ;)
Yup, totally with you on this..The SKX design (case, dial and handset, hell, even the jubilee) for me personally is PERFECT. I always loved how the SKX dial almost looked like it was from the 70's with the super rounded off rectangular indices and the orange (very seventies!) pop of colour, and I love it for this.I actually prefer the printed indices of the SKX compared to the applied ones on the 5KX and to echo what you were saying, it just feels sanitised and basically just a shareholder led decision to bring back what was obviously a classic, albeit with a list of cossesions. I do however like the new handset which looks like a standard SKX, and that was the only thing I didn't like about the 013 - the hands looked like they'd been on a proper diet. Handwinding also is a major plus but honestly never got the obsession with hacking as it's never gonna be THAT accurate after you've screwed in the crown for the day . Nice vid anyway buddy :)
It’s a good point regarding the hacking! I guess it’s having that control over the movement that’s the appealing thing!
The SKX dial looks a little 70s because it is from the 70s. There's your homework task 🙂.
I prefer printed as well. It suits the character more.
Orient Ray 2: A little bigger but for much less money you get hacking, hand wind, automatic with screw down crown and great looks and great quality. Not sure why someone would go with this Seiko model.
Totally correct...but the fan boys need the Seiko on the dial.
I love the pro Seikos but the fact of the matter is none of them are this size. This is the perfect size for me. If they were even close to this I’d buy one. But seems I’m out of luck on that front so I’m okay with it not being “professional” as a compromise. Frankly I have other dive watches for the “professional” itch.
the most important innovation in my tiffany is snob resistance, especially those with cheap skx. i love the unusual style of gold hands in tiffany, it is as weird and unobvious as the left side traffic
I would be all over these if I was still a University student, surviving on a shoestring budget. They're great for an entry to the watch world. Anyone with more money to play with, go for the Prospex instead, especially the new GMT models.
Extra research and you would've find out that the SRPK33 is an homage to the 7548-700C *teal* manufactured in 1984. Yes, that one also does not have gold outline on the indices but a black outline instead. Also, this is the first *teal dial* re-issue by Seiko. Yeah more research in the future.
No need! I e got people like you to do it for me?!
Great review as usual 👍🏻
As for the watch, I couldn't be less excited! Just another example of why Seiko is no longer on my radar.
It’s a little disappointing but just under sell these watches and Seiko could bring in a new wave of enthusiasts!!!!
Great show as always MWC! The price is quite a bit higher than I was expecting though. I don’t mind that they’re just dive style as opposed to certified diver’s but based on my experience with the revamped Seiko 5 line I’d wait for the prices to come down if I was in the market for one of these personally.
I want the real one but not with the gold outlined hands. Damn.
@@pokie6087 Yeah that’s a good point. It does become a self fulfilling prophecy.
For what it’s worth I wouldn’t expect or ask for a discount on one of these at releases, I was speaking more about them potentially being reduced later on in a sale of some sort which has happened with a few Seiko 5s in the past. I actually really dislike the whole haggling thing 😂 I’d much rather just have a genuine fair price right there on the tag rather than an artificially inflated one which is then reduced to make the buyer feel special or like they’re getting a deal.
With regards to the Seiko 5 range specifically I have a SRPE and it’s a fantastic watch but based on my experience with that I was quite surprised these SRPKs are priced at £300. My expectation would have placed them closer to £200. But I could well be out of touch and way off the mark with that, it was just a personal view.
I’m sure these will fly off the shelves as they’re a great design in a size suitable for just about any wrist and it’s a completely in-house watch from one of the most significant brands in the business, I was just surprised by that RRP.
@@pokie6087 Nope, if those parameters are important to the purchaser then I can’t think of another watch that would meet them other than a similar Seiko 5 such as the SRPD.
The gold hands on the orange is classy. The gold hands on the teal are funky because it's a funky watch.
My wife replaced all our kitchen utensils and small appliances with teal themed ones 3 yrs ago.
Even her knows it's too late for that.
Hahahahahaha
Really makes me appreciate my mini turtle which blows this release out of the water. I even paid less money! Screw down crown, solid links and end links, proper 200m diver, date only I could go on!
Oh that mini turtle is special! Bought my padi version for £240!
i can't Get enough of this mad watch collector block! reviews
Thanks Mike!
I’ve got three of the regular ones (black dial, green dial and black dlc) and while I really like them the QC is inconsistent on them. My black dlc one has a very light turning bezel, my green dial one has a very stiff bezel and then my black dial one has a smooth crisp bezel. For a $300+ msrp tag the qc needs to step up a bit.
In Malaysia , this 38mm only cost 190£ after converting from its local currency , bang for buck !
Well the old skx011 (orange dial) always had gold hands so thats why the new orange release has gold hands. Im guessing the teal one has gold because it's the other fun color? Idk. The orange one has gold on the bezel insert though so I like it on that one.
This is great thank you my friend! It’s weird that it’s commemorating a non SKX but a precursor? But I get it!
I dunno, I like the 5kx series. I've got a SuperCub I enjoyed so much, I bought a plain-Jane SRPD to daily. I'm a mechanic, not a diver, so 100m is about 98m deeper than I will ever go.
I do agree with you on the price point on the smaller version's price point. Way too high. Seeing as the SPRD95 on my wrist right now was $150 brand new, nobody should justify $300 on the new, smaller version.
I like the 5KX series too. I’ve got three of them but I wouldn’t pay £300 for the smaller ones!
Give it a year I think there will be at least 20% off
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR yeah, probably. I'd buy this as a gift for the right price, but it's not big enough for my 7.5" wrist.
I’m not sure if it is too expensive? Ppl compare prices to the skx - which were released years and years ago. Prices go up over time
Also, all the micro brands which are alternatives, mostly use the Seiko mechanics anyway. There’s something to be said for having that originality and ingenuity. To me anyway
The move is the seiko solar 38.5 mm diver or they have a 42. Saphire, nice and thin, 200m.
I've worn so many huge heavy black dive watches before that I can't wear them anymore. You start to want some color. 38mm is perfect size. Also, the off-white one looks cheap, the teal one is nice but after awhile you might realize it's a funky watch and wonder why you are wearing it. The orange has a sunburst dial and some people have called it pumpkin. It's sporty, classy, it will match with so many things that have orange in them, and it's why Doxa used it as a dive watch color IHMO.
I appreciate an honest review here. I love Seiko as well but the new release is an undeniable step down in quality from the SKX.
Its cheaper than the kamasu where i live so yeah it seems quite appealing. Plus this will be my first automatic watch and i really like the tiffany-esq dial. Lol i think ill get it soon
I am Seiko 5 ready!
I have the srpd71 love the blue and off-white pairing! And on the mesh bracelet 😍
I love that these are 38mm case x 20mm lugs, with a 4 o-clock crown, but it's WAY too expensive. Don't like the hands, don't like the dive ring, don't like the rounded off edges.
Sorry Seiko, I want to encourage 38mm cases, but not enough to buy one of these 😢
The DressKX line might be intriguing to you. Same 4 o clock crown/case design, but with no dive bezel, 20mm lug width and 40mm. While not 38mm, in my opinion, the watch wears closer to a 38mm. For example, it wears smaller and more compact on my 6.25 inch wrist than a 38mm Hamilton KFM does. They can be had for under $200 too.
They should have sent to you some of the seiko5 limited ones, like honda sc or blazing something...
If Seiko re-released the SKX007 or SKX013 with a movement that hand winds and hacks, and literally left everything else untouched as the original SKX was....they wouldn't be able to keep those watches in stock..they would sell out immediately.
they would add sapphire crystal too and charge $1000 lol
@@rhonda837 nah apparently Seiko aren’t allowed to charge money for their watches. They have to make them at cost and give them away to enthusiasts. And they have to be perfect as well as free
People, buy whatever you want. Know yourself and know what you like. It’s a good watch, stop treating this “community” as if it was a gaming one. We all have to make money and prices are going up everywhere not just in watchmaking, if you put this watch by itself is a great watch, if you go and thrash on it because you think another one is better just be cool about it and enjoy all the options. It has solid specs for an everyday watch and also, you know you don’t dive. Know yourself better people you are an individual not a community, this is just a guy talking about watch very passionately so kudos to him for that, but he’s not cool talking like that.
Oscar calm down! Listen I can say whatever the hell I want mate. It’s up to people if they want to watch it. It’s my opinions as it’s my channel . I’m entitled to it just as much as you are. It is a good watch as long as it costs half the retail price JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!
I'm so calm, don’t take it hard, I was just giving my opinion too.
Know yourself people, you are individuals. Enjoy what you like and don’t give way to hating.
You're right Russell, the gold in the hands on the Teal dial version is way to weird.
But I must admit that I find the one with the white dial very nice.
Well! Aparently it’s a nod to the vintage seiko 7548-700c Quartz divers! Pre SKX !
Too small as well for a 6'2" - 16 stone lump like myself, with the other issues you mentioned. A bit dear too, me think
Definitely no limp my friend!
I'd love an skx013 but looking at the prices on chrono24 gives me the heebie jeebies. 500€-700€ for one in a good condition
I will stick with blue Prospex padi. Blue dial & bezel with red minute hand & red line on the crown finished with a blue nato. Was tempted with the 5 gmt but think price to high for what it is. Keep the videos coming as they entertain as well as show us the revt
Thinking that the new 5 is more a fashion watch. Not sure it ticks many boxes. Although I’m a sucker for orange dials. 🤔
Hahahahaha
👍 Great upload, TY Russ.
So... The hollow O-brac (with what looks like remarkably low-grade clasp) and the generic basic Seiko seconds hand 😐 For "only" 300.00, eh? Should be happier they brought back the legend, but, you know... "new Seiko, they're going upmarket"...🤦🏼 I'll stick with my Islander 38's. The Pan Am is gonna be my summer go-to. Marc puts right what Seiko leaves (or insists on getting) wrong.
Totally agrree with your opinion..Spot on,get a skx013 folks while you can.
They want newbies to buy these but like you say they are overpriced, OR Seiko should start using better bracelets and actual sapphire to help justify the costs, Chinese Homages are using Seiko movements and giving better specs for a third of the price sadly.. If you can pick one up discounted and swap the strap out they would be just “OK”
I’ve got a Zelos Mako in MAD HQ right now that blows this watch into smithereens!!!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I will be watching out for that video dropping, That is a brand I don’t currently have 🤔
I wish they wouldve kept the SKX case and dial the same and just updated to a 4r35 and put in a milled deployant. That wouldve kept the SkX going. Too bad you lose the ISO certification.
…Seiko found a pallet of gold handsets in the back of the warehouse!
“Issue these on the next run Dave nobody will know” 👍🤣
Well! Aparently it’s a nod to the vintage seiko 7548-700c Quartz divers! Pre SKX !
You have a smaller wrist than me but I think the black bay 54 would look super for you
Ide rather have one of the new Citizen Divers or spend another £150 and get a Tissot Seastar as I'm not bothered about having an automatic. Great vid as always Russ ❤
If this Seiko 5 Sports holds up i might buy more of them in 38mm at $200. This is my 6th Seiko. Every one was either uncomfortable or not that accurate. The 38mm Seiko isn't too wide or too tall. I was going to get a new $300 Orient Mako 3 in 41.5mm, 22 lug to lug, sapphire crystal and screw down 200 water resistant, but i got a good deal with $50 less on the 38mm. Also, anything over 40mm is a big watch and 41.5 and 22mm lugs are uncomfortable. Seiko Sea Urchin was like that. If you want to know how much dive watches changed from the original Rolex Submariner design. The first Rolex Submariner was 38mm and 100m water resistant.
Thanks for the review...will save somebody from wasting their money 💰👍
I'd pay 150 for this. Not a penny more than that. Seiko is begging to get greedy and we need to help them course correct their company.
Seiko 5s are fashion watches now. And sadly, some proper watches have been demoted into this line.
Well, one could take this new one, and swap the movement and hand set into the 013. Other than that, it'll never replace the real thing.
Another great show Russ:) In my eyes, this 5KX range in general just seem like fashion watches, so many better value watches to be had out there, especially in the micro brand sector.
Rolex , AP, Hublot are all fashion watches nowadays
I have a 6.25” wrist so the size works perfect for my wrist. I would buy the watch at a discount price but definitely not at the current price and I would only buy it to mod it. If it comes down in price it’s a maybe, but otherwise at full price it’s a no for me
Some time ago i bought not 42mm 5kx, but 40mm srpe61 (aka dresskx) without bezel, put it on uncle seiko jubilee and it replaced the skx for me ( dont have and never had an skx)
This new model i only like bcos of this teal colour, orange one is cool too. But it would be probably too small, since my 40mm is kinda small already.
Would like to see them in person and try it on.
Yes definitely need to see them in person Batman!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR wait, see me in the "Flash" ! You ain't seen nothing yet
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR" you wana get nuts? Let's get nuts!"
this is not a replacement for the skx
i don't know why people comparing it with the skx
$300 AUD now, absolute bargain, Teal will be worth quite a lot in 15 years, just like the vintage are now worth a mint
To be honest they don’t make a bad watch but could be better and some micro brands are even better for the price. Do like 38mm watches with my knobbly wrist bone, but strangely the Seiko GMT 42 fits like a glove, they do make great case shapes
Long Island watches have been making 38mm dive watches for some time, I would buy one of them but the bloody logo I can’t get my head around, bit like the San Martine solder splatter logo
Hahahahaha the wife thought it was an S !
agree with everything you said, in my country it cost $230 and i still think it overprice.
I have only 1 seiko in my collection which is Captain Willard and that’s enough.
Now it’s time for bb58. Oh yes 😅
