I feel the same way. I think companies are finally understanding that 40mm and higher isn’t the gold standard size like they thought. I have a feeling that 36mm sport watches are going to a make huge comeback. Looking forward to it. 😏
In the beginning of 2022, after restoring my father's 1972 Mido Oceanstar, I developed a passion for watches and started my own, yet small collection, with a Seiko 5 (40 mm) SRPE55, thanks to Teddy's advices. It definitely is an excellent cost/benefit piece and maybe one of the best entrance doors to horology. Thanks Teddy for the amazing job!
Got this watch for my 21st birthday and can say he hit the mail perfect for my situation. Barely got into watch collecting and have a smaller wrist size and wanted something for everyday wear. I got the light beige/cream dial and I am in love with this watch plus I get a lot of compliments wearing it too.
The watch-makers are finally coming to their senses and returning case sizes to sizes that don't dwarf the wrist and look like a caricature of a watch. That said, I especially like the beige, orange and blue dial versions of this watch......great looking. I recently took delivery of a Baltic MR01 in salmon (did an unboxing video) and at 36mm, that is on the large side of what I would wear on my 7" wrist. Yet, kudos to Baltic for making that watch in 36mm and kudos to some other manufacturers to are scaling down sizes.
I received one (orange dial) for my birthday in June and love it! It did have an issue that required I send it to seiko for servicing. The movement would stop when the watch was turned on its side. So I shipped the watch to Seiko USA service center and received it back within a week in fully functional condition. That aside the watch is very attractive and I will continue to buy other seikos as a collector.
I own a Seiko GMT “blueberry”, put on rubber strap for the summer. Nice fitting, summer watch, Seiko makes great value watches. Thanks for the great content Teddy! ⌚️
I own the biege one and I love it. One of the things that I like about this watch is it's legibitly, and this greatly attributed to the fact that it uses mineral crystal instead of saphire and that the case is no polised. High polishing makes the watch feels like a mirror, and saphire is highly reflective even with AR. Mineral glass makes you actually see the dial!
I have a 7 inch wrist and normally like watches about 38 mm. However, I have the larger Seiko 5 dive watch and find that it fits very well on my wrist. Since the bezel takes up a lot of space I think I am better off with the larger Seiko 5 diver than this new 38mm version.
A lot of people poopoo Seiko but I could literally build a Seiko collection that would rival any Swiss collection. Thanks as always for your help and hard work!
That's what I'm doing from entry level Up to luxury. I've gone with SRPF19, SNXS79, SARX047, SPB147, SJE079 - last on the list SLA043 and then finally SBGY007 (though it'll be some time before I'm able to buy these!)
Not surprised. I've sold my seikos both 5s and retro remakes as I just didn't feel the quality and soul was there. Depending on the deal you get I'd practically recommend people save for a sub $1k alternative
@@o.ozanbilen7113only thing that comes to mind that's close in size is the 36mm Marathon MSAR. I'd definitely consider one if you're in the market for something with a similar size to this SRPK but are willing to spend around a grand.
I received the orange dial Seiko 5 for my birthday. My bracelet actually has four points for micro adjustments not just two in the clasp. The 38mm works great with my small wrist. I am very happy with my gift. Great watch.
I really appreciate reviewers like you that mention your wrist size. I also have a 6.5 inch wrist and bought this watch (teal) because I know that it will fit.
@@ajeven7752 Speaking for myself with my mid-60s eyes, I'm glad that I went for teal. There is enough contrast between the watch face and the hands that I can see the time with ease. This is on-paper a 38mm watch, but if you ignore the bezel, the actual time telling dial is under 30mm. Even so, I can see the time with no problem with the gold-on-green color scheme. I absolutely love this watch, so I know that I will get the cream model too.
@@ajeven7752 Albert makes a good point. If legibility matters to you, the teal is the better choice. The white hands with the cream dial makes it a little difficult to tell the time in some angles, especially out in the sun. But just based on the dial color, the cream dial is 10/10.
These look great and I'm sure they're very well made but being an owner of the 42mm variant, I don't see the necessity of the smaller dial which, when lug to lug is considered, isn't very different. If anyone is considering them and cannot choose I'd highly reccomend trying on both, especially as the 42mm wears a lot smaller and can be had at quite a discounted price in some variations.
I agree. I also have the standard 42 mm version and it does wear smaller than the case dimensions would suggest, this is coming from a guy with small 6 inch wrists. The lugs also curve and taper quite a bit, making the whole watch actually compact. Though I prefer watches that are between 36 - 40mm, the standard 42mm version of this Seiko, again, is surprisingly compact given its dimensions.
Amazingly the 42mm is fine on my 6.5 inch wrist. In fact it wears better than my 40mm Tissot Visodate. Slightly oversized perhaps but not noticeably so. 38/39mm is probably the sweet spot for me but the secret with the 42mm 5KX is the short curved lugs, which Swiss brands like Tissot tend not to favour.
@paulc9588 I found this with the PRX. 40mm looked too big on me. Really highlights the importance of the lug to lug which annoyingly isn't always included.
The hands and hour markers not matching on two of the models makes them look like franken-watches or parts bin mods. Otherwise I’d be all over that teal. I do very much appreciate the down-sizing though.
I agree with you on the bracelet. It needs more than 2 micro adjustments. I’ve recently got bitten by the Seiko bug with a blue recraft on the bracelet. Can’t get the right fit. Thinking about a rugged silicone strap.
Love my SRPK31, especially having a 6" wrist. Great little piece and mines running around +5 seconds a day which I absolutely can't complain about. I don't think these are really worth the $325 MSRP that Seiko has asked, but like most Seikos, you can grab them much cheaper, and I got mine new for $180. At that price, they're much more compelling. Also, I'd have liked a screwdown crown myself, but there's a misconception that the screwdown crown itself is what gives a watch its water resistance, and it's not. The gaskets and seals elsewhere are. A screwdown crown can help prevent movement of the crown if it's accidentally moved or pulled out underwater which, in fairness, is still a benefit, but it's not what allows a watch to hit or guarantee additional depth and water resistance ratings. And let's be honest, most of us aren't divers and if we were, we're not bringing a Seiko 5 with us. Seiko has a bunch of alternatives that are actually ISO rated already.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on AMZWATCH 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
These Seiko 5 sports watches I think would be one hell of a good starter watch, say if you are going to buy your first automatic. Also with a smaller 38mm case, it's nice to think that the movement takes up most of the case with I presume a smaller spacer.
These are great watches! I have the orange 42mm and get tons of compliments(all good) since it’s so unique from the other watches people have.. at least where I am.
Will they bring out 30- 36mm for the ladies? I have very small wrist and would like to have this watch. I tried it on in the shop and I liked it. I did not buy it because I was not sure I would wear it.
I’ve been wearing the 42,5mm version since January and I’ve been beating the crap out of it at work in a steel plant and it’s just fine😁 I wear it on my 2cylinder adventure bike, I shoot airrifles with it, I wear it mowing the lawn, it’s holding up and accurate as well, it goes up and down about 5 seconds in a week, sometimes fast, sometimes slow.
I guess that an accurate way to describe seiko now at days maybe wouldn’t be the best value for money for everybody, but it’s definitely a brand that you can buy and don’t regret at all
how about the blacked out version? how would you rate it? Still figuring out if I would buy the blacked out variant so it would be great to hear from you first. noob here. thanks
This is the perfect everyday watch besides a smartwatch. I got the orange at a great price compared to all the other models. Seiko finally figured it out. Maybe it was my posts from watch forums years ago. 😂
I love mine as my first Seiko watch. Bracelet is a bit uncomfortable and won't fit exactly, either too loose or too tight, might buy another bracelet. I don't regret it though.
Teddy, is there a difference between the made in Japan version of this watch you’re wearing and the one sold on your site? Because the version on your website doesn’t say “made in Japan” on the face
I have the black and love it, though I get a little self conscious when I encounter someone wearing a Submariner, which is more an more these days. I can afford the upgrade so I will probably do it now that the sub grey market prices have dropped. If you don’t have Rolex colleagues or you ego is bulletproof then this watch as epic to own. Annoying about Submariners is that they don’t have Day, but they make up for it with the Date magnification, which I would benefit from.
Stupid question. Started research into "cheaper" quality watches...want to replace my smart watch with something less needing charging everyday; witbout going back to an ironman digital....anything sub 300 that is high quality and durable...for a very LARGE wrist?
I think some of you are being too harsh on this watch. yes, a bit overpriced at retail, but who pays retail for these watches? IMO, you should be able to get a 25 or 30% discount if you are patient. They are not true divers but rather, an all around sport watch that you could wear in to an office job, or on weekends, or just whatever. As for who this watch is for, it could be a first real watch for a middle or high school boy, or girl, or a young professional, or even a middle aged guy who isn't especially into watches. As for the size, 38 mm is a good overall size. not too big and not too small. So while it is a no brainer for guys with smaller wrists, even someone with a more average sized wrist can pull it off.
I was thinking of buying the blue/turquoise version of this watch for months. To me it says "summer, vaccation, fun with the family outdoors. However after a while i grew a little tired of it's peculiar colors. Also the " turning devise looks a little cheap in black and white. So while i ended up buying the tanned white version with the bleched "turning device". I motivated this with that it probably looks less cheap and more classy and that ill probably won't grow so easily tired of that watch as i would with the turquoise one. Time will tell if i did a bad choice. For now, after two weeks, I'm happy with the choice i made. But taste differs from person to person.
I have the white dial version, but the day/date is not centered. It sits higher that the top of the numbers/letters are nearly touching the roof of the window. People who own the watch, can you check yours.. thanks
Ive binged several of your videos, Teddy, and really appreciate thepractical advice that youre providing, especially around avoiding impulse buying and watches to avoid, e.g., homag, direct rips, etc. I just got into (the last 72 hours) into looking at a new watch to purchase and, wihtout knowing that it had been discontinued, focused on the SKX013. For those reading this comment (and Teddy, too), is this new Seiko 5 a sound watch purchase for an everyday wear watch? I think Im interested in something can be worn while hiking and fishing, worn with jeans but also slacks and a jacket.
I have the orange GMT 42mm. Love it. It looks smaller than other 42mms I have. I like the snoopy version of the 28mm, but wonder if it will look too small on a 17cm wrist :/
I own a 42.5mm version and I love it. For the price, I think you’re getting a nice automatic watch, it fits perfect and is a pretty sharp watch ( relative to the price ) 100% would recommend for someone who is in the begging of their journey into watches like I do Dont think you can get much better for the price ( assuming you’re going for an automatic watch)
Wow, amazing coincidence. My -33 teal watch just arrived today. I went back and forth trying to decide whether to get the green or beige and basically the contrast of the hands on the green dial won for my older eyes. I have 8 Seiko 5 models and have not had a single issue. I got this watch for times that my 40-plus millimeter watches are just too much for the situation, and the reduced size is very noticeable on my 6 1/2 inch wrist... in a good way. It seems like a cliche to say this, but this watch looks much better in person than in any of the photos on line from various reviews and advertisements. Something tells me that the beige model will be in my future too. Seiko did pretty good with this series.
I wore a Seiko Sea Urchin and Seiko Sarb for a while. I tried every which way to enjoy a 41.5mm case with 22mm lugs. The Seiko Sarb was too thick of a case to be comfortable. Seiko has finally arrived with 38mm.
Snoopy Seiko 5 Sports is just so good, I would be reluctant to wear it. They nailed it. Tbh I am waiting for a price drop, although they're already quite affordable for what youre getting, even regular ones.
Got the beige coloured, the dial is sunburst champagne when you see it in person, the applied lume and indices are way better finishing that Seiko 5 SRPE series, which I used to have one. Got to see and try these watches in person if you have a chance. And yes the gold trimmed hands and silver indices on the teal version just ruins it for me, no matter how great the teal looks.
Neither this nor the 5KX deserve a price tag above $180. What kind of specifications they offer to justify $300, when a superior Orient Kamasu can be purchased at 2/3 of that?
I love how companies are finally bringing down case sizes. Long time coming.
Yep. Never got the appeal of large cases. My wrist isn't thick, so bias. But, watches should not be clocks on the wrist.

Why you haven't mentioned the compatibility of different straps for this model ?? It will be more helpful for audience!
I'm holding out for the Seiko 5 Sports "limited edition" vintage re-issue next month.
God!!! MAMACOO Who would have thought those gorgeous watches go for that low!!!
I have small wrist and love this but I wish they had similar blue dial and pepsi bezel like the SRPD53
So while it is a no brainer for guys with smaller wrists, even someone with a more average sized wrist can pull it off.
how is this on wrist. i remember the previous 39mm i had to buy a flat caseback to make it more suitable to the wrist.
Just bought mine... IN ORAAAANGE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Seiko 5 lineup just killing it over the last couple years.
This will be a mod monster, and a great everyday beater watch as well
The orange dial will be perfect for summer
Been waiting for these to drop in the US. Great timing for water wear.
Why no mention of the Snoopy??
Seiko does not have an online store, right? Any suggestion on good online stores that ship worldwide?
Can’t decide between Orient Mako V3 & Seiko 5 sport 38mm
Around 500$ pls guides some watches to buy I like Seiko gmt ssk series but want to know if I have any other watches to choose pls reply thanks
I have the white dial version, but the day/date is not centered. It sits higher that the top of the numbers/letters are nearly touching the roof of the window. People who own the watch, can you check yours.. thanks
Same watch with 39mm or 39.6 mm size would be good for a 6 or 6.5 inch wrist
I’m debate if I should buy it I’m skinny so u think it fit
I see this as a competitor to the Certina DS Action 38. Maybe not as refined. Like it regardless. Congrats on the wedding, Teddy
I have the orange GMT 42mm. Love it. It looks smaller than other 42mms I have. I like the snoopy version of the 28mm, but wonder if it will look too small on a 17cm wrist :/
it will :)
I own a 42.5mm version and I love it. For the price, I think you’re getting a nice automatic watch, it fits perfect and is a pretty sharp watch ( relative to the price )
100% would recommend for someone who is in the begging of their journey into watches like I do
Dont think you can get much better for the price ( assuming you’re going for an automatic watch)
Have the beige 31, I would describe it as sunburst champagne dial when in the light, do check it out!
I wore a Seiko Sea Urchin and Seiko Sarb for a while. I tried every which way to enjoy a 41.5mm case with 22mm lugs. The Seiko Sarb was too thick of a case to be comfortable. Seiko has finally arrived with 38mm.
Just bought the black w the rubber strap. Nice knock-around watch.
What band did you put on the 38mm Seiko in this video Teddy? I enjoy the detail you go into in your TH-cams!
Snoopy Seiko 5 Sports is just so good, I would be reluctant to wear it. They nailed it.
Tbh I am waiting for a price drop, although they're already quite affordable for what youre getting, even regular ones.
Here in South Africa, its the best looking and feature packed watch for under R8000 ZAR.
What do you think of it?
Got the beige coloured, the dial is sunburst champagne when you see it in person, the applied lume and indices are way better finishing that Seiko 5 SRPE series, which I used to have one. Got to see and try these watches in person if you have a chance. And yes the gold trimmed hands and silver indices on the teal version just ruins it for me, no matter how great the teal looks.
I own a SRP777 and a SKXOO7.
A new professional diver and the old.
No complaint.
Neither this nor the 5KX deserve a price tag above $180. What kind of specifications they offer to justify $300, when a superior Orient Kamasu can be purchased at 2/3 of that?
