Dark Souls - Ornstein & Smough Fight (Killing Ornstein last) NG+ (Melee Only)

- More Dark Souls vids, this time fighting Ornstein & Smough in New Game+. Yet again, I do a melee only run. However I found this to be pretty annoying, as I wanted to kill Smough first, yet was having a ton of trouble splitting Ornstein away from Smough long enough for me to even attack him. Also would of been better if I bothered researching about good weapons (rather than sticking to the Furysword), but oh well. I usually prefer just playing the way I wish to play it, rather than looking up guides for best weapons and equip, etc.

killing smough first is so much easier in my opinion. I get as close as I can to Ornstein he can't really attack you then
@Geralt of Trivia Ornstein is easier if you have a greatshield /favour blocking. Smough is easier if you prefer to dodge.
@@deadshot1995 Nah. Super Ornstein is plenty easy if you're dodging the attacks. You don't even need to dodge if you stay under him, the only attack you're in danger of is the ground slam, but just run away as soon as you see it and you'll be fine.
I like how Ornstein just pats Smough's dead body in respect when Smough fucking crushes Ornstein if he dies
For anybody who is having trouble , cause I have a great feeling you will have some difficulty with this powerful duo on ng+ for people with their first run on ng+
* Always be patient , this fight takes a while to beat.
* Let them use attacks , but look closely for small , but optional openings.
* You might need to play more of a defensive role in this fight , because of their upgraded damage.
* Keep away at all times , but like i said , attack whenever you get a chance , but be careful and smart before going in for a hit , they recover quick
* If by possible , try to kill Ornstein first , if you want the Leo ring and Ornsteins armor then your gonna have some trouble , Smough is obviously tough to beat first , and of course with Ornstein attacking so frequently and more quicker than Smough.
*High chance you will need 15-20 estus flasks , trust me , you'll need that many , but if you don't want to that's fine , just a recommendation.
I've said it before and i'll say it again , the key to this more harder fight , is PATIENCE.
Read this comment a bit late just spent 2 hours n 30 minutes beating them. Of course I wanted to kill smough first this time.

99% of the time, Solaire will try to fight the Royal Sentinels. I assume he tried to save Solaire but died.

This is actually the first time I (thought) I really needed a summon (first playthrough). Looked up a couple strategies (all of which I had already mimicked through learning/gameplay) and found a couple tips on equipment as well as rewards (which to kill first/last). So naturally, it led me here. Props to you dude. You've got the most helpful video on these two in my opinion.
I'm going to take another crack at these two without Soltaire this time....again. ^_^
@MrGundestrup Was level 107 at this fight. Was right after the Knight Lautrec Fight I uploaded also. Completed the game a week ago or so (character's level 123). Just been a bit slow uploading the vids is all. :P Even though I got the plat, I'm most likely going to be playing the game still (though it'll be co-op vids with my brother on a new character). I find the Furysword good at the earlier levels, but I'd say at NG+, there's most likely better weapons to use (was just too lazy to check). :P
Just finishied my first DS1 playthrough (I know I'm late) and gotta say, I'm quite glad that I unknowingly killed Ornstein first. His powered up version looks a lot harder then Smough's.
Yeah it actually is. Killing ornstein first is usually what you wanna do if you're stuck but then you get the fat dudes soul and his armour set. some people ornsteins armour better so thats why you'd wanna do it this way
Ok, I see now... I tried to dodge Orbs attacks, but the timing was so off! He caught me almost every time. What I see from this video: if you want to kill Ornstein last ALWAYS DODGE INTO HIM. I usually spin-to-win anti-clockwise and also dodge to the right. Doesn't work on him. Stay in front of him, dodge into him. Got it, 👍
Honestly the best strategy for this fight is not to do it alone, summon solaire knight (on the stairs infront of the entrance to this fight) and check the area for a friend to summon. I did this last night on ng+ and splitting them up made it a breeze.

when i did this at new game plus my healtbar wasnt as big as his. Their attacks dealt 50% of my healthbar and super ornstein nearly one shotted me with his attacks.
What I learned about killing Smough first: Don't.
Super Ornstein really isn't that hard, just stay under his nuts and roll when you need to.

@@ytmndan That's true, you just have to be patient and wait for an opening, such as Ornstein winding down after doing an attack or Ornstein stuck behind Smough/a pillar.
Killing Phase 1 Smough himself isn't really a challenge, just need to keep a pillar between you and him when he does his charge attack then land a hit or 2.
Or maybe it's because I used a +10 Halberd which has some nice range allowing me to land hits easier. Couldn't have done it without fast-rolling though, it's a life saver.

Idk what got into but on my first run I legit thought you really had to kill Smough first before Ornstein.
You made that look easy. I thought super Ornstein was supposed to be harder, super Smough was such a pain in the ass
@JoaoMRocha1990 Go for it man. If you're doing it without help (as in no Solaire or summoned player), then just take it easy and wait for the opening (unless you're just that damn good at going wild!) :P Might take a few tries (though fair play if you pull it off on your first try).
The game takes equipment, level and skill so it's all equally useful

try 13 humanity and chaos weapone with ring of steel and protection and dark wood grain ring
and get pyromane 15+ = firebal , fireorb , great fireball , great chaos fireball
don't use the fires until you kill smough after that hide behind pillars when dragon slyer do that electricty Jumb throw on him a ball , i used this method in 15 minutes battle
try hard as u can kill smough and u have at least 8 estus flask ^_^

How do you do so much damage on ng+ using the fury sword my furysword damage is only 99 even though its +5

Pascl he grows cuz he inherits smough’s largeness while if u kill ornstien first smough inherits his lightning powers

You must have it by now but what the hell - ascend any +10 straight sword or greatsword using Sif's soul.
The fight is way better when you kill smough first

I had no problem with both of them in NGplus cause I was about lvl 250 and I had a ton of good weapons maxed out.(Black Knight Halbert plus 5)

Smart move getting rid of Smough first because i wouldn't like a enemy that jumps around with a hammer attacking me while its using electric powers
Oh, at this time, I went for Smough first because I killed Ornstein first at the first playthrough. :V So wanted to go the other way.
its always the smart move to get rid of Smough first because its holy unpredictable when he takes Orosteins powers
actually if you can block and fat roll kill smough first, if you run fast and roll fast go for ornstein first.
Super Smough is actually a huge pushover, super Ornstein is much more powerful, and Super Smough just spams the jump smash and he can't actually shoot the lighting as far as I know
My weapon does like 47 dmg to ornestein when smough dies
just try get him to do the lightning bolt attack and keep a smll stump and justshot him with arrows

Holy shit, it took you ages to defeat them?! Killing Ornstein first is the easiest, just walk in and spam him with attacks, dead within 40 seconds. :D
Thats why it took ages, killing ornstein last is more difficult even more on NG+. Give a try :D

Yeah i see what you mean, kinda use the same strategies as Sif - run under the legs etc. He is definitely the harder one to kill last though, no doubt.
Such bullshit. Taking less than half damage you should be with that armor set, even if fully upgraded? Piss off.
Bit of heads up you should notice, but this was uploaded during the earliest build of the game (upload date being an example), which the armor set was pretty strong back then (it was later patches that they nerfed the armor stats).

This isn't cheating I'm afraid; this is New Game+ (as in playthrough 2). Should read into this stuff before accusing people of cheating and such. :/

Yeah, pretty much. The difference though is that enemies get stronger each time you start over (New Game+ they get stronger, NG++ they get even stronger, etc.). Each time you start over, you keep your equipment and level and such (in a way, it helps on being able to stand up against the harder difficulty).
Hope that clear things up. If you're still stuck on Ornstein & Smough though, don't give up. Try summoning someone or see if you can get your spear stronger. Pyromancy works pretty well also if I remember correctly.
