    Something that Rob Kearney has talked about a few times is making small achievable goals to help keep you moving forward. For me it was something like not zeroing an event, then not coming last overall, then winning a single event, then making top three, and now my goal is to qualify for nationals (but might have to wait for next year with everything shut down...).

    I'm 33 and I've been going to the weightroom for 22 years. It's kept me sane and has given me goals to push for. It's a way of life. And the ease of access to knowledge is better than ever with guys like Big Loz, Hall, and Brian Shaw.

    often recommend benching at least 1.5 times your body weight, squatting 2-2.5 times your body weight, and deadlifting at least 2-2.5 times your body weight.

    i started strongman training very recently found a nice gym that can accommodate me at the strength im at now, which was honestly most of the reason i never did try to pursue it: i always thought my foundation had to be stronger going in even as a noob. so i'd do sloppy workouts at the commercial gym, make tiny stregnth gains, not knowing what i was doing and never getting to my goals of getting into strongman. so i just went for it. I'm healthy and able and motivated, the rest will come with time. and i get absolutely steamrolled at these workouts, don't get me wrong, but the coaches are great, i leave with the biggest endorphine high and it lasts for hours and it just makes me excited to keep going and hopefully be able to one day look back and see how far i come.

    Great video mate! I’ve become extremely passionate about strongman over lockdown and I’ve been working my ass off too learn more about the sport and I plan too one day complete at a high level. It has been hard for me too find people too train with due too anxiety and just not knowing where too find people that have the same passions as me, any advice would be hugely appreciated 💪👊

      @spencer3432 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s your sodium and potassium levels in combination with the water. To boil it down for a TH-cam comment response

      @@spencer3432 Haha yeah I get the gist of it, but how do you even know if you're in the ball park?

    • @spencer3432
      @spencer3432 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mitchell Jack they have little test kits if your very serious but the low tech way is to monitor how much water you retain, like if you pee it all out right away you need more sodium. Potassium as long as you eat right like a couple bananas after your workout, eating the right amount of potatoes. You should notice less muscle cramps.
      But yeah the test kit would be a more serious way and even more serious would be getting your blood work done a couple times a year.

    Thanks for posting this, Loz. Great timing! I have my first strongman around April 2021 with my nephew. He's done some meets and I promised him I'd do a strongman meet with him when he gets back from his latest deployment overseas. I've done some powerlifting over the last 20 years and like doing odd lifts so this sounds fun.
    Any recommendations for someone on the not-so-young side? I figure to move my training to sets of 5 across overheads, squats, deads, bench and do sandbag carries and axle work. My goals are to have fun, not make an ass of myself and not get injured.

      A few people I know that are into strongman like to look at a training week as a two week thing.For example you might do stones or a farmers walk for heaps of reps one day then heavier another and it makes it easier for them to go by two week periods instead of one.Havent tried it myself but worth a try I reckon

    why is chalk so important? i mean i'd like to use it for my deadlift but i could also use straps to not lose my grip and for the other excercises like squad, bench and overheadpress i never felt the need to use chalk.
