I've been training for nearly a year to enter my first competition, which is in two days. Watched this video many times in the past 12 months and it's really helped to keep me focused during that time. A big thank you to Loz for this kind of content.

@@sidneygaylord477 ha I'm a little ways away in Virginia but hey good luck man seriously. Kick ass and learn all you can! If we keep it up maybe one day we'll see each other at Nationals or something crazy if we get gud xD
Hi there it went ok i got 5th out of 10 would have had a podium but have a rotor cuff injury which made the Log horrific lol.. but everything else went ok really enjoyed the experience highly recommend doing it 💪👌
Great video Loz... I had my first competition in January this year (started strongman training Sep 2018) and to my amazement I came 3rd out of 11 competitors.... I totally agree with you regarding how you feel on comp day.... In the gym I could only do 5 log press reps in 1 min... On comp day I managed 9!...I was Extatic, Ive trained recently with Lisa Corallini and worked out with Andrea Thompson as well... Both are fantastic and I'm learning alot from them, as well as from your video's 💪 I love training and have already booked into 2 more Novice comps this year...keep up the great vids👍
Thank You! I am in my first comp in August and feel my competition has a good chance of winning. I love strongman so your advice is very helpful and Appreciated!!
I’m watching this the day before I drive five hours to do my first novice competition - thank you so much for these nuggets of wisdom! It’s been a petrifying week leading up to this, but your calm and level approach is helping quell my nerves. Thank you!!
@@daftbiker9111 Better than I expected! I didn’t make the weight class I intended, but still managed to win! Went on to win an open comp a few weeks later (a very small one). It’s addicting!
So awesome there was a video on this! Thank you so much for the tips! I have my 1st comp coming up in 3 weeks n ready to have some fun n lift heavy shit!!! Thanks again strongman brother!
My very first strongman comp is this July in Flagstaff, AZ! I'm really excited for it. I had my first Powerlifting Comp last December and had a blast! Thanks for putting this video up Loz!
Not my very first comp but the first since 2019 after a spinal injury, this has been super helpful. Thank you uncle Loz (also you look a lot healthier these days)
Couldn't have found this video at a better time, I've got my first contest this September, and its a lineup of 21 guys including me.... Going to be a huge field of guys in my weight class so I'm aiming for top 6, that would be super cool
Just googled this because my first comp is in 5 days. Trying to get my self mentally in the zone! Love hearing from all the greats and this video actually did help a lot!
Uncle Loz! I would like to thank you again for the beginner tips. I have competed many times since this first comment and I have another coming up on the 28th of October. Still loving it and have a blast every time! My lifts are growing every day brother thanks again!
My second comp. I was hoping for 10 reps on Dead’s. I can not count when in the zone. I just did it until time was up. Time was up and I was told I did 16. At home my record was 9 reps. I placed last in the comp but first in being the strongest me at the time. It was amazing.
Now that I completely finished school, I’m thinking that it would be fun to start competing. I might actually do decent in the middleweight amateur strongman.
Just watched my first show held at my Gym 2 days ago and seriously considering signing up for the next one. I will come dead last, but I just want to experience the sport I love watching from the I side at least once. That is definitely worth the price of competing 😁
...and I'm not saying I'll come last because I am not confident... I'll come last because I'm 6'2" 350lbs and my 1RM's are 200lb on bench, maybe 350lbs on squat and 435lbs on Deadlift. My best Log is 170lbs and barely got it up. I'm not strong for my size. But I will enjoy every second I'm there 👍
First competition is in 8 weeks. This video was helpful. I'm probably starting too old (45) but I love the training so hopefully competing is as much fun!

@@nibbenebbs891 my wife and I are hoping to come to Scotland this year or in 2022, depending on when we can start traveling again. We’re wanting to go to the Stoltman Games when they have them.
I only weigh 155 lbs. I've never competed in strongman, but I'd love to. Should I do novice division for my first competition or the lightest weight open? Not sure if I want to compete against people 80 lb heavier than me in novice but I'm not sure. Ideally, whichever one has easier events.
Great video! I have my first one coming up in exactly a week. Usually when I worked out in the past I had music and could use that to get myself in my peak mental state to lift the heaviest. But when I work out with the boys and when I compete what is the best way to get yourself/myself ready to rock and roll and be ready mentally for a lift and a competition?
Sound advice loz I have asked before in between events on the day what helps ? Do you rest or stay mobile ? Have my 2nd event coming up uks strongest novice Easter weekend
How do you know when you’re ready for comps? Is it different between men and women? Do women in strongman train differently than men? Are strongman comps coed or are they gender specific? I’m rather new to the sport and I would eventually like to do comps for fun.
Just did my first competition.yesterday. messed the atlas stones up along with the log press but took a decent 5th in the deadlift from 9.
