This affirms my experience - walking off trail, on uneven ground, and with some elevation variation made my hip feel so much better than when I walked on the road or a smooth trail. I guessed that it was because my hip had to move in different ways while the road or city walking was repetitive on my forward moving joints.
May you all get a chance to try forest walks on uneven trails to see if it feels good for you, too.
Thank you, Alyssa, for your helpful videos. This 65 year old truly appreciates them. ❤

I am so excited about these extra sideways and backwards movements because it all makes sense to do the full rotation of the joints. I have been walking for years and am finding it's not making me feel as comfortable as it used to, so now I am going to really concentrate on what you showed to me and I think I will see a new me. I have hip arthritis and will eventually need a THR, in the meantime, I got a hip injection which gave me relief for nearly 4 months, then started wearing off over a month, now I’m awaiting another injection, I do go for walks, if I walk for too long I notice pain returning more and I am limping, I have also bought a rebounder which now I’m concerned I might be exacerbating my hip pain, I just do health bounce for a minute then walking movement for 2 minutes and then stomping, I hope I don’t have to give it up as I bought a high quality bungee sprung rebounder and it cost a lot!

Thank you sooo much for this! I used to walk 5 to 8 miles a day, 6days a week and my back got so sore that I had to stop walking. I’m 77 years young and I did all kinds of exercises to help my back but the problem remained. It got to the, point where I could only stand or walk for 15 minutes before I had to sit down or pass out! I’ve had a lot of PT and they were wonderful but I never found out why my back was so bad. I had a Lumbar radio frequency ablation on three places. My nerves were blocking this spinal column and I was told I needed surgery but I don’t want it.
So this exercise is going to strengthen my spine and if I do that and the other exercise I have - maybe I won’t need any more ablations! They work very well but I’m on the 101 year old plan. If I plan on being around that long I feel I have to keep my body working without getting it cut open all of the time! Thank you so much! I will keep watching!!! (And I’ll tell my friends too!)

Than you Alyssa for a very good informative video. I have been diagnosed with early onset osteoarthritis in both hips and mild arthritis in my lower back. Up until 2020 I used to be physically fit and in a good place. I used to enjoy going out hiking, averaging between 7 to 15 miles on a hike. However since having a breakdown in my mental health in 2020 my mental and physical health has declined to say the least. I have been using one of my hiking poles to take weight off my left hip over recent months and have thought about investing in a walking cane. I am booked in with Physiotherapy Specialists at my local Hospital to get further help. I am considering starting off with some gentle yoga and stretching exercises to try and gain some strength back in my hips, lower back and core area. I am hoping by doing this, alongside diet changes, weight management will enable me to both return to work full time and also get back outside hiking.

      Hi NeilMacfarlane!
Sorry to hear you’re having so much pain! It’s sad to see such a healthy person like having so much pain.
You might be over working your joints thus causing arthritis to come on. I have arthritis thru out my body but I watch what I eat and drink. Certain foods like night shade veggies, dairy, sugar will cause pain in the joints. To alleviate my pain I drink Apple cider vinegar, 1-2 tablespoons mix with some little water every morning before you eat or drink anything. Wait 20-30 minutes before eating or drinking anything. You’ll find your pain will go away! Do this every morning & you’ll never have pain again unless you eat or drink those things again!

Hello Neil, How are you doing now? My situation has something similar to yours. I have been very sporty from childhood, but after a critic depressive period I got non usual muscular pain in my thighs, buttocks, lower back. Unfortunately doctors took long time to figure out what was my real problem, and only under my insistence and suggestions they found out hip osteoarthritis. I live in the Netherlands and here the official medicine only see full hip replacement (arthroplasty) as solution. I have read that "breakdowns in mental health" can significantly contribute to hip osteoarthritis. As well, I read that in ancient Ayurvedic medicine the hip was seen like a physiological focus (center) which is affected by all emotional crises. I think that already years ago I had some early conditions of osteoarthritis, but emotional breakdowns triggered it. I wish you the best! Gabriel

Doctor Alyssa, I know you said to do 2-3 sets of each one, but how many reps in each? I don't want to overdo it, but I certainly want to challenge myself. I'm trying to get to a point where I can reduce how much pain I feel in my left glute when playing tennis (due to bone-on-bone arthritis in left hip). I think your vids will help me do just that. Thank you!

This really will depend on how hard they feel. Starting with 8-10 can be a good rule of thumb for more challenging movements and up to 15-20 potentially for easier movements

Having now walked several miles in a reverse direction I can confirm that the only thing that prevents a flare is fasting!

is it ok to workout legs with bodyweight if h have hip arthritis in order to build lower body muscle? will the condition progressively get worse regardless if i work the lower body or not? with moderation and no weights used(just bodyweight) and only once or twice a week lightly.

Interesting information. Thanks SO SO MUCH ! WISH MY GENERAL DOCTORS 33 YEARS AGO would have taught his patients to overcome hip arthritis for his Cosmetologists females. Standing long hours cutting hair all day long & manicurist SITTING ALL DAY LONG LONG HOURS sitting & hunched over painting fingernails. Cause painful arthritis in whole body. Due to lack of breaks to do some prevention exercises. ( Time is money) causes NEGLECT to harm our bodies. Votec Trade education & employment causing ARTHRITIS INFLAMMATION degrading
Human physical bodies. Harmful substances Chemicals & STANDING long hours. Breathing bad air. The price women pay to LOOK BEAUTIFUL 😮. OSTEOARTHRITIS DISCOMFORT & DISEASE Results. 😮😢 EXERCISES, EXERCISES, EXERCISES WERE & NOW & ALAWAYS NEED PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE & ATTENTION. WAITRESSES ALSO. ETC. NEED GUIDANCE.
