Looney Tunes: Back in Action actually had a great cameo appearance by Shaggy, Scooby-Doo and Matthew Lillard (who did play Shaggy in the Live-Action movies and continued to voice him to this day).

To be honest I actually prefer Back in Action over Space Jam as I like the humor in it a lot more, the story is pure spy adventure goodness, the effects are actually really impressive especially since a lot of the effects were done practically like the Warner Bros water tower falling over yeah that was done for real, and come on Brendan Fraser in a Looney Tunes movie I mean how could you not love that? While Joe Dante may not like the movie due to the nightmarish production I would consider this film to be one of Joe Dante’s best work.

This movie holds a bit of nostalgia for me. I was always very fond of the concept of cartoon characters actually working for the studios that produce their shows and Back In Action pretty much made a whole movie out of that concept.

I kinda like to think that Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Space Jam, & Looney Tunes: Back in Action act as some sort of unofficial Looney Tunes film trilogy, lol.

@@krystiancharos889 Well, I mentioned that it was an unofficial Looney Tunes film trilogy. Otherwise, you’d have to incorporate Space Jam 2 and the Tom and Jerry live action film as well, lol.

I appreciate that you didn't compare "Back in Action" to "Space Jam" with the points you brought up for defending the former. I know you're not a fan of SJ, but I like that you don't condemn/tear down anyone for liking it. I enjoy Space Jam largely due to nostalgia and I'm fully aware of the flaws.
I remember liking "Back in Action" well enough when it I was little, but haven't seen it since then. This video makes to want to give the movie another watch.

Man, I forgot how good Looney Tunes Back in Action was. From its development of Daffy Duck, the insane gags throughout the adventure, great music score and amazing 2D animation that blends in with the live action! It is definitely an improvement over Space Jam. That's not to say that I despise Space Jam. In fact, I still enjoy it to this day, despite it being very rough, with the dated CGI, the hackneyed plot and it basically being an adaptation of Joe Pytka's Hare Jordan ads from the early 90's. But I'm still drawn in by the wacky basketball game against the Monstars, the good 2D animation and fun gags sprinkled here and there. Though, it's not something I wanted a sequel to, but lo and behold, we're getting one in the form of a New Legacy. Personally, i would have wanted a sequel to LT Back in Action more... or something that was 20% Space Jam, 30% Back in Action and 50% its own thing. My hope for Space Jam A New Legacy, is that they do bring the gags like in Back in Action, as the plot does involve LeBron and Bugs going through different movie worlds before we get our wacky basketball game, so that's something to look forward to!
On a side note, I did buy the Space Jam/Looney Tunes Back in Action double feature DVD release from Amazon and I'm excited to revisit both movies in anticipation of A New Legacy! Especially, Back in Action... that movie is really good! Good luck, Space Jam 2... you're gonna need it!

One thing I really liked in the movie is that Bugs actually believed that Daffy is amusing and entertaining, wanted him to be brought back, and was reluctant to work on a new movie unless that happened, hinting that he indeed sees him as a friend/ his best friend despite their rivalry written in their movies. Personally, I think it's really sweet. ^^

I do prefer Back in Action over Space Jam. And it’s very underrated. I like how they give an arc especially for my favorite Looney Tunes character Daffy Duck.

Currently rewatching and you are correct. You can tell Dante’s love for these characters. The animation is beautiful and it’s a fun movie even if the plot isn’t great.

I have a lot of nostalgia for this film. While the Looney Tunes were never high on my "most enjoyed cartoons list" when I think back to this and Space Jam, this one is the more appealing one 9 times out of 10. Another excellent video, Sir Jacket!

As a huge "Looney Tunes" fan, I'm also proud to be an admirer of "Back in Action"! A lot of Love and Respect for the Classic Cartoons went into the final product, and it shows; also, the story is fun, the relationship between Bugs and Daffy is well established, there's a lot of good jokes and Pop Culture references, and the film is full of surprises! (The live action actors, especially Steve Martin, are all good, too!)
I will say this for "Back in Action"...admittedly, for a "Looney Tunes" Feature Film, it doesn't quite measure up to the Classic Shorts from the Golden Age; and, for an Animation/Live-Action Hybrid Film, it lacks the originality (and sometimes the seamlessness) that made "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" unbeatable. At the same time, however, it is the vastly superior "Looney Tunes" Feature Film (compared to "Space Jam", at least), and it is the Best Animation/Live-Action Hybrid Film since "Roger Rabbit"; the biggest reason being...its Faithfulness to the Legacy of the "Looney Tunes" Characters!
I'm proud to have seen "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" while it was playing in Theatres, and I'm also proud to have it in my Movie Collection!

Well Joe Dante was a friend of Chuck Jones surprisingly, and sense Dante knew how much Chuck Jones was devastated with Space Jam because of how it represented the Looney Tunes characters in a modern 90’s style form, Dante chose to make Looney Tunes: Back In Action as the anti Space Jam and wanted have the characters back in there classic original form. And honestly when you watch LTBIA it really shows at an Anti Space Jam.

If you ask me, "Back In Action" is what "Space Jam" SHOULD'VE been. "Space Jam" was litterally just a soulless extension of those Nike commercials with both Michael Jordan and Bugs, that's more or less just a Michael Jordon drama with the Looney Tunes shamelessly dumped in there, with only surface level representations of the toons themselves. And the fact that before "The Lego Movie", THIS was the ONLY film that Warner Bros. Animation made that actually turned a profit is really embarrassing. "Back In Action" meanwhile, while not perfect, felt like a MUCH better cinematic representation of the Looney Tunes characters, there was actual passion behind it, as it was produced by someone who was a genuine fan of the Looney Tunes. "Space Jam" was a soulless 90 minute commercial, whereas "Back In Action" felt like a love letter to classic "Looney Tunes". And as nostalgic as people are for "Space Jam", did anyone actually UNironically demand a sequel?

    • @slashermaster28
      @slashermaster28 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, this. Even after Doug's Disneycember review, I still don't get why this is one of Disney's most hated animated films. A lot of the stuff he complained about is stuff you see in just about every animated Disney film, so I don't see what the big problem is. I could understand if its reception was maybe on par with Treasure Planet, but people really hate this film. (I'd also like to see a defense of Bolt since while that was well received by critics, general audiences seem to either despise for dismiss it)

@@slashermaster28 People always criticize how the film starts off mature as it blends aboriginal culture but when Kenai gets turned into a bear the story falls flat, personally I thought the narrative flowed well and I wasn’t bothered by the movie changing tone when Kenai got turned into a bear, the film is called brother bear not aboriginal teenager who gets turned into a bear.

Brother Bear is a better movie than Pixar's Brave partly because John Lasseter kept butchering Brenda Chapman's vision for the film.
