I agree, this is THE most underrated animated film of 2017. Too bad critics and the box office treated this like it's Ice Age: Collision Corse. I wonder if the critical and commercial failure of the film destroyed the film careers of Ariel Winter and Gabriel Iglesias.

I found the movie pretty good when I saw it. I remember you were excited when you heard Meghan Trainor was going to be contributing a song to the film after you enjoyed the work she did for The Peanuts Movie. What did you think of her song "I'm a Lady?"

I actually didn't mind her contribution. It was the one pop song that didn't stick out, probably because it was made specifically for the movie. It was a fun, energetic little number.
Although I have a funny story regarding that song: When I went to the preview screening of "Smurfs: The Lost Village", they played a little clip montage with the song before the movie started. But not once. For some reason, they played it on a continuous loop until showtime. It went from amusing to slightly annoying to amusing again, but I have never been so happy to see the Columbia Pictures logo in my life. "I'm a Lady" is a charming song, but I will always have that memory attached to it.

I love the fact that Meghan Trainor did a song for a movie starring Demi Lovato, as the two were in Skechers commercials respectively. On a side note, Demi Lovato is a much better Smurfette than Katy Perry. Change my mind.

@@MrCoat Yes, I agree Stefan, the pop songs in Smurfs: The Lost Village are not very good. I give the movie credit for not just being an excuse to have pop songs, but they are PAINFULLY forced in, and it's like: "OH!" Thankfully though, they are short, but whenever they start playing you're like: "STOP!" But again, they're only a few seconds.

Here's hoping Nickelodeon would have much better care on the Smurfs then Sony did. Especially with the announced new series.

I like this movie not just because of the jokes and the creativity, and the fact that is still has these classic characters, but because it has this totally, belivable, likable heart to it. It's very sweet, and even though The Smurfs are show to not get along from time to time, they still really like each other, and they like being around each other, and they share this happiness, and legimately love each other. And that's what makes the film work in my opinion.
Does it have problems? Sure, and it's never gonna be on the same level as Pixar, but what really sells the film for me, is the heart. Like there was actual effort put into it. They weren't successful at every joke, but they did it with so much passion, that it carries us a lot farther than something so souless like: "Alvin & The Chipmunks". I wish more people would see this, and skip stuff like Alvin & The Chipmunks. Because unlike Alvin & The Chipmunks where I just want those movies to stop, I actually wouldn't mind seeing more of these Smurfs films, if they keep up this creativity, because this film is so creative, and so likable, and I love these characters so much, that I wanna see what's going to happen with them.
This so easily could've just been like the Alvin & The Chipmunks films, where it's just an easy: "Make a quick buck" movie, but it isn't. But a lot of critics just automatically decide that they're gonna hate it, before they even see it, because they're like: "Oh, it's The Smurfs, oh, it has pop songs, oh, the characters look cartoonish, oh, it's nothing but a bunch of comedic gags, no, I'm not gonna like this." And that's really not fair.

What do we have so far for the coronavirus impact? So far we have A Quiet Place Part 2, Top Gun Marvic, Run, The Conjuring 3, and Monster Hunter delayed, Mulan (2020), The Trail of the Chicago 7, and The SpongeBob Movie Sponge on the Run skipping theaters and moving to streaming, more productions put on hatius, and others on the impact.

I'll never forgive Mark Ellis for putting Smurfs: The Lost Village on his list of the worst films of 2017. That movie needs more love than the crappy Katy Perry movies.
