  • I look at the past year at the box-office, including the domination of Disney, the hits and flops of Warner Bros and this strange new era for 20th Century Fox.

    Being the Warner Bros. fan that I am, I knew I wanted to answer that question of yours. A few of the ones from the Studio that I saw did quite well at the box office, others not so much; and they are:
    -"Lego Movie 2"
    -"Shazam"
    -"Detective Pikachu"
    -"Blinded by the Light"
    -"The Goldfinch"
    -"Motherless Brooklyn"
    -"Joker"
    -"Richard Jewell"
    I found each of these films to be (overall) enjoyable. There certainly were some films from other studios that I saw as well, including, but not limited to..."Toy Story 4", "The Art of Racing in the Rain", "Ford v Ferrari", "Ad Astra", and (my Favourite Film of the Year) "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood".

    Since you mentioned the remerger of Viacom and CBS, what are your thoughts on the new conglomerate's deal to acquire 49% of Miramax, giving Paramount the distribution rights to their library?

      I think it's a good way for Paramount to bulk up its library. Probably also worth pointing out that because Miramax often pre-sold the foreign rights, Paramount's rights are likely restricted to the United States. Here in Canada, for example, the Miramax back catalogue is owned by eOne Films (formerly Alliance Films). They also still own the pre-2008 New Line catalogue, as New Line also presold the foreign rights to their movies prior to Warner Bros taking over the studio.

      I do wonder how it will affect certain co-productions and acquisitions, like Cinderella Man, Master and Commander, and the four Pokémon movies Miramax distributed. The latter is an interesting case, as their rights never seemed to have expired like Warner Bros.’ rights to the first three films did a decade after each’s respective release. Miramax (and by extension, Alliance) kept an iron grip on them, almost preventing The Pokémon Company from remastering and rereleasing the four films as part of the franchise’s twentieth anniversary; 4Ever did get a digital release for a bit, but it was taken down a year later.
      As for Paramount, it certainly will be a good move to build up their library, but their distribution methods have been iffy in the past; there are a ton of classics (like Roman Holiday) that they’ve yet to give a Blu-ray release, though I’ve heard grumblings around the Internet that things within are changing. We can hope, and sorry if this response got long-winded.

    Abominable only cost 30 million to make for Dreamwork. Dreamwork actually made quite a bit of profit on abominable

    • @MrCoat
      @MrCoat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The source I used said the budget was $75 million. Either way, Abominable still managed to double its production budget worldwide, so it's definitely not a bad performance by any means.

      Mr. Coat I said it only cost 30 million for Dreamwork, rest of the 45 million is actually by Perl studio in China

    What do you think will be the highest grossing movies for each studio in 2020?

    • @MrCoat
      @MrCoat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At this moment, my predictions would probably go:
      Disney - Black Widow
      20th Century Fox - West Side Story
      Warner Bros - Wonder Woman 1984
      Universal - Fast & Furious 9
      Sony - Venom 2
      Paramount - Sonic the Hedgehog (this is the hardest to predict. Top Gun 2 could either do amazing, decent or flop. A Quiet Place 2 and SpongeBob 3 could either dip or see an increase. Sonic just feels widely appealing enough, especially post-redesign, to break out).
      These are worldwide predictions, by the way. Not just domestic.

      @@MrCoat How do you think Minions: The Rise of Gru will do?

    • @MrCoat
      @MrCoat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm predicting Minions 2 to do extremely well. Not quite on par with Minions and Despicable Me 3, but I don't think Minion fatigue has quite set in yet with audiences.
      I chose Fast & Furious 9, primarily based on the fact that Fate of the Furious made more than Minions worldwide.

      @adamkaunfer4384 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrCoat That's what I'm curious about. I don't doubt the movie will be a success, but has the Minions, and by extension the DM franchise's, time passed? That there is currently only a theater-exclusive trailer for the film makes me wonder if Universal will be pushing it like the previous films.

    How do you think 1917 will do?

    • @MrCoat
      @MrCoat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think 1917 will do extremely well. Universal was very smart to position its wide release shortly after the Golden Globes and before the Oscar nominations are announced. Whether it reaches Dunkirk numbers remains to be seen, but I predict whatever the final result is, Universal will be pleased.
