Location
1. Biblical Shechem is also known as Sychar in the New Testament, and as Tel Balata and Nablus, today.
2. Shechem is located about 30 miles (48 km.) north of Jerusalem and about 30 miles (48 km.) northeast of Tel Aviv.
3. It was in the Samaria region of Israel in the territory of Ephraim during Bible times.
4. It was on a main north-south travel route that linked the northern and southern parts of Israel.
5. It was also on a main east-west route that linked the coastal plain of Israel with the Jordan Valley.
6. Shechem lies between the two famous mountains of Gerizim and Ebal.
Historical Background
1. Shechem had a significant role in the Bible and is mentioned 58 times.
2. God first appeared to Abraham in Shechem and gave him the promise that he would inherit the land.
3. Abraham and Jacob lived here.
4. Joseph’s bones are buried here.
5. The blessings and curses given on Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal took place here.
6. Joshua rallied all Israel and made a covenant with them in Shechem.
7. The nation of Israel became divided in Shechem.
8. Shechem became the capital of the northern tribes of Israel under King Jeroboam’s rule.
9. On top of Mount Gerizim are substantial ruins.
• The Samaritans first built a temple here for worship in the 5th century. Later, in the 2nd century, they built walls around the temple to protect it.
• In the latter part of the 2nd century, the Hasmoneans (Jewish rule from 165-63 BC) destroyed the Samaritan’s temple on Mount Gerizim and the city at the base of the mountain (ancient Shechem).
• During the Roman occupation of Israel, the Samaritans were given permission by the Romans to rebuild their temple and city.
• In 475 AD, under Byzantine rule, the Samaritan temple was destroyed, and a Byzantine church was erected. Later, a monastery was built as well.
10. Jesus met with a Samaritan woman (John 4) at Jacob’s Well in Shechem. Today, the well is inside the Church of St. Photina, which was originally built in 380 AD. Over the years, the church was destroyed a number of times by natural and military forces. The current church building is overseen by the Greek Orthodox Church, which obtained the site in 1893.
11. The Samaritans were a small group of unfaithful Israelites who remained in the land of Israel and intermarried with foreign unbelievers after the deportation of Israel by the Assyrians in 722 BC. They established their own religion at Mount Gerizim and built their own temple. They were despised and rejected by the Jews and considered unclean. The Samaritans, likewise, despised the Jews and had few dealings with them. The Samaritans only believe in the Torah (first 5 books of the Old Testament).

These holy lands very much look like my hometown Afrin in Northern Syria, now occupied by Turkey. The olives and rocks remind me of every single moment of my childhood spent in the bosom of Afrin. Whenever I read Genesis it causes me to think we will go back to our land that has been stolen from us. This makes me believe🙏🏻.

Joseph's Tomb, AWESOME!! One of my favorite stories in the Bible. I had not realized that so many things took place in 'Shechem.'
The town looks so run down, reminds me of the old back-forty areas of 'Tijuana, Mexico,' where i often went with other members of my family and friends to give clothing and food stuffs to the poor and the needy.

My goodness, we have no clue what happened where with only a superficial reading of Gods word. But with a good close reading, good maps, good geographical commentaries, and scholarly teaching, these things come to light and tie the bible even more tightly together. Such a blessing to know the bible in light of all of the info to had through deeper study and scholarly materials. Dig deep my friend. And thank you for your service to our country sir.

Joseph was not sold by his brothers in Shechem, but in Dothan, some 20 miles north. Joseph was sent to Shechem,but was told they moved on to Dothan. So he went there and found them.

Last year I had the pleasure of visiting the Holy Land, please my Christian friends you must go there and feel the wonderful vibe. The visit has got me closer to God.
Same for my husband and I.We lived for 6 months there , not as tourists but alongside Israelis, to get the understanding of what they live through, We volunteered in an organisation called Sar El . which helps place volunteers in the DIF bases , doing manual work in kitchens and on bases , painting trucks or barracks , It was our honour to serve making up medical kits for soldiers up in Lebanon 2006. The IDF was a great place to serve and find out what great people these Israeli troops are , They deserve our care and support , ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Studying John right now, and in chapter four, thank you for your video well done and brings about more history than I knew.
I recommend getting some resources to further your studies. A book on cultural backgrounds, a bible dictionary, commentaries, Lexham geographic commentaries and more. works of Josephus as well as these other resources will help you understand what is going on in the Bible and will make more sense to you. For example: Hebrews talks about not rebuilding the foundation of faith. This is a cultural thing that about the Jews. They would always rebuild a building on the same foundation that a previously ruined structure would have been on even if the foundation was not that good.

There's something so unique about yo Vdos. I hv visited other channels abt the holy sites, but no one describes them as you do.
I strongly believe that yo explaining about the scriptures and coordinating them with the actual sites gives us a great blend!
Even the last words of us pondering abt scripture & visualising with our daily lives, gives yo Vdos great inspiration to our souls, minds & bodies.
Most amazingly, I hv fallen in love with God's Word (Bible) on a daily basis due to these videos. As it has become very easy for me to relate to the places/sites that they talk about in DE Bible. And I feel a great connection with God's Word.
As I follow your Vdos on a daily basis, I too study the word. Which has brought back to my life a new spiritual energy to follow the Only True Christ Jesus.
I can never get tired of following your Vdos. How I wish I had known your channel earlier on, I guess some mistakes I hv made before visiting yo Vdos, wouldn't be. But thank God for using U to bring mi back to life through Christ Jesus Our Lord.

Don't wish to go there now because as you can see there is a pagan temple full of idols on top of the well, if it is actually Jacob's well. This water is currently full of demons, by partaking of it, you will be opening yourself for those spirits who inhabit that temple to come and reside in you. When Christ comes, He will level the whole land and purify it with fire. You don't want to be there before that
