Although it's in the desert the site has a huge a water cistern carved out of the rock below, some 30 meters underground capable of storing more than a million gallons of water. The town was built by a wadi (dry river), which filled with rain during the winter months. In the summer, the water remained under the ground. The well (mentioned in this video) is outside the city and it's 70 meters deep, the deepest found anywhere in the Negev desert and it is believed to be one of Abraham's wells.
