- Follow along as we show you how to build a leak down tester. We give a basic list of parts needed to build you own tester and give you a short walkthrough and how to preform the test itself. Thanks for watching guys. Comment below if you have any questions or comments. Thanks for watching!!
Don't forget this test should be done with the piston at BDC (all the way down). This will test the head gasket and crank area all at the same time. I heard you say the compression was good on this engine which tells you the head gasket is good but some may miss that point.
A good rule of thumb for pass/fail is a leak down of no more than one psi per minute.
Was just on another channel that I watch frequently and he locked up a motor (according to the comments) because he didn’t do a leak down test. Now I’m here learning how to make one and how it works. Subscribed! Man I love TH-cam and this knowledge. Thanks
Very nice job from start to finish. Thanks for sharing how to build the tester, and how to block off exhaust ports. I never thought of expandable freeze plugs. Two thumbs up.
Good video. pretty decent information here. Forgot to mention about blocking/capping off the crankcase breather fitting while leak testing.
Super helpful on building one of these. Was just at lowes getting everything. Going to start assembly them for my banshee motors! Thanks man
Thanks, this is one of the most informative resources on exactly what is needed to make the leak tester and then putting it together. Your layout of the parts looked like a motion pro setup before they pulled all of the tags off the parts and added the carry case. I would liked to have seen the tester getting attached to the intake, but I'm sure people can figure that piece out. Thank you very much for the video.
thanks man! we appreciate the comment. please dont forget to subscribe to our channel! we hope to have some more videos up in the next few weeks!
Very informative. Thank you Sir!
Awesome video, in the description you should list out the brass fittings you used. I think I have a leak in my blaster that I can hear when its idling. I'm going to make this little tool you made to test it out. Also going to watch your rebuild videos, seems very detailed.
Thanks for sharing
What exact fittings did you use to make the tester for a blaster
Thanks for this vid. Greetings to you. Keep up the good work. Liked.
What store did you pick up the expandable freeze plugs auto store or hardware store. Thanks for the great video
Thanks, very informative..! What size pvc adapter fit the lt250r intake..? I will be doing mine asap.
+Da MadMoney check our other videos. we did a leak down on an early motor 85-86 and one on our 87, which is the same as 88-92. thanks for watching
Aren’t you supposed to block the second carb as well so that air doesn’t escape from that side as well?
😂
@@terrydaubenspeck5976 want to elaborate?
@@mitchlec8916 A Blaster only has one carburetor. It's big brother the Banshee has two.
I really like your video information. A closer shot while talking. Lighting behind the camera and less cluter around you distraction from your words.
Which seal(s) had failed? What were the symptoms? Would the engine run at all, smoking, rough running or what ?
the crank seals had failed. the bike was impossible to start and when it would it would rev out almost instantly. its always good to leak down test after any and all work to the engine and 2-3 times a season.
Thanks for the reply. I recently bought an old 2 stroke motorcycle. It smokes on start up and after idling for a while so I think some gearbox oil may be getting past the crank seal on that side, but it still runs great and starts easy. I think I will just ride it for now, from what I'm reading if/when the crank seal really lets go it will be obvious.
Yououtit on backwards twice😂
Nice vid. Tho I've never understood y ppl get pipe thread so damn tight. Especially 10psi. I'm a fluid power dude, hydraulics, 3000psi, and never crank on fittings. Actually there is a certain amount of thread that's supposed to go inside fitting for proper thread engagement.
Bla bla. Rant ober.
10psi will blow seals
A leak down tester just tests the amount of air that seeps past the piston and rings and past the intake and exhaust valves if the engine has them and the head gasket. The test is done when piston is at TDC. This video shows how to make a leak tester.
The test I am showing applies more to a two stroke engine, but yes that is what you are going to test on a 4 stroke engine. With a two stroke you are checking that the crank case can hold a 7ish psi charge without leaking
10psi is way too much
you don't even need to leak test the bike just know what your doing and your gold its not as hard as everyone makes it seem this is why ppl don't buy 2 strokes because ppl make it seem so confusing when its so easy lool rebuild it and start the bike and then if it runs your good bro haha
thats not correct at all. for a 2 stroke to run correctly it is extremely dependent on correct jetting, mixture and a leak free engine. Having that combo will give you a lasting 2 stroke engine. Spreading bad information like what you stated is why people blow up their 2 stroke bikes and quads
Stay in school.
This is very false. A leak down is like a small insurance against all the work you put into your engine. You could know what you're doing and still have something not sealing the best it could. It's 15 minutes.. Do the leak down or lose your engine.
