Do you have any idea if running a 2 stroke briefly, with the timing set wrong can blow any seals?
I accidentally ran a seadoo with the rotary timing plate installed wrong, you had to give it throttle to get it to idle or it would shut down. We ran it about 30 seconds until deciding something was wrong.
After fixing the issue and breaking the motor in, I noticed that the bottom end (rotary valve oil bath) was losing oil as if being sucked into the motor (oil bath is sealed and not supposed to fluctuate unless a crank seal leaks).
I pressure tested this isolated oil bath cavity and it holds perfectly for a 5 minute test.
Many people say to test 2 strokes for 2-12hrs. If I test for an hour I get a half lb drop and it is NOT the gage itself.
Any insights?
Of course these 2 inner seals on the crank are not accessible since the crank shaft is assembled around them!
Awesome video. Btw which material did u use to block the power valve system? Its plastic? Where did u get it??
Shane is on the road teaching but he got back to us and said it was just some scrap plastic half of a steering block he had laying around. He does not recall the exact material.

That cut up 1988 RM250 engine is a sad sight - those are great engines when running well. For science!
We would NEVER cut up a good Suzuki engine! 🤪 This was donated with cracked cases. It now is used in a high school in Arizona....For Science for young minds...😉

if you do your own repairs on any 2 stroke engine, this is the best tool you could have! it will save you an engine if used as shown.

Just sent my 1993 kx250 to the shop because it was blowing white smoke. Don’t have a shop right now.
Would this work if the engine side cover was on? If the transmission seal was leaking, would you hear gurgling or air coming out the filler plug?
Hi Brandon. You are correct. You may have missed it in the video as to why the benefit is so you can actually see it and fix it before assembling all the rest of the parts.

I rebuilt my kart racing engine after it broke a rod.when rod broke it barely tapped the case on reed cage side,after i rebuilt it had a bog mid throttle.i noticed it coming off corner thought my was throwing all fuel to the rs of tank and ran lean but it was cold and i hand choked it and my buddy seen fuel squirt from the case.😂so i put silicone on outside of case for a bandaid and that sucker took off and got rid of the dead spot
Is it normal to have an air leak past the power valve seals? I just used your method of blocking off the power valve on my kdx and it works great holding a steady five psi, but when the side cover is installed with the linkage air leaks past the power valve. Is this by design to lubricate the gear mechanism with premix? Thanks!

We grabbed Shane quick and asked him as we were curious to why, here is his response to help you and others get clarity: "Guessing you fast-forwarded the video and missed the point of it. You are right on if you have the expensive kit with a round insert, the point of this is for the DIY or even shop missing the proper inlet fitting. If all the other parts seal, the engine would be worthy of installing and an intake leak could be quickly and easily tested installed and running".

I don't like the idea of spraying soapy water inside the engine. A little engine oil will do the trick on the crankshaft gaskets
