- UPDATE: I am being told that these are ringing up 90% now in most stores. Some people seem to have issues checking out as these items were supposed to be in grab bags. If you have an issue, I would just offer to have them make a grab bag of your stuff and pay the $4.
Either way, its still a good deal no matter how you slice it.
Alright guys - I think this may outdo the grab bags - and you guys KNOW I LOVE the grab bags!
Here is the deal - so a lot of the items that appeared in the grab bags have been missed by employees- and A LOT of them are ringing up 99% off (UPDATE JUST 90% OFF NOW- STILL GOOD)!
When you are out shopping this sale know that employees will not know about it - use one of the red price scanners around the store to verify prices then go and pay like normal.
My employees were all like "wow, that is a really good deal" and they had no idea.
If you have issues - it will likely be because these were meant for grab bags. Just see if you can bag them up and buy at grab bag prices - may work, may not. I had no issues checking out and paying.

They had about 20 huge $4 boxes but they were all filled with thick yarn. I dont sew or crochet so I didnt get any. No other grab bags available at the store and ours wont make them up.

They price their items assuming people will use the 40% coupon. If you pay full price, the store makes a huge!! profit.
they price their items high and almost always have 40-50% off sales. it tricks people into thinking they are getting really good deals, when in reality, they are paying the average price for it.

Yep. No idea. I worked at Michaels for a year, those things are horrendously cheap. We would find goof ups ALL the time. Things being put on wrong or upside down. Things fall off of those constantly. I once found a full pack of chinese packing tape in a case???
My Michael’s barely has a clearance section much less grab bags. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen grab bags in my store. 🙄

Carry On depends on your geographical area I guess - here in Brooklyn NY I never see a grab bag, though they run sales on a regular basis - usually picture frames 🙄. Are you on a coast or in the lovely heartland?
Jennifer Conley ... They aren’t gonna outright tell you.. Well, some stores don’t. If you have the Michaels App.. After holidays.. Easter, Halloween, Christmas.. etc.. Check your Michaels App.. stroll through the entire thing and it should be there. Not all Michaels stores do the $4.00 grab bags/grab boxes. Check a few different times. Good luck. If one doesn’t do it, check different stores around you !!!
They don’t advertise the grab bags. If the items are ring up 99% from the floor, the manager and merchandise manager is not pulling the items from the floor.
Also grab bags go out as soon as these items are dropped to 90% off.

How awesome! why have I never done this? I'm decorating my house at a snails pace, because everything I want is so pricey or I'm trying to make it myself. Also I had a wedding at my house a few years and this would have been super helpful.

Former Michael's Fulfillment Team member (overnight stocker). All of these should have gone to grab bags, but some employee was too lazy to look up or in the bins. At my store there was one employee tasked with creating grab bags, and he really didn't care. If you want more of an item, even clearance, ask an employee to scan for them. Chances are that in a drawer bin down below or an overstock bin above there is a cache. I frequently found previous season's merch tucked away and ignored at my store - especially Washi tape. No, employees don't take stuff home nor can they purchase grab bags (grounds for termination). Any unsold discontinued or damaged merch is thrown out. Also, merch is shared across departments. If that fountain isn't in decor, check floral or wedding for example.

Hi There: I'm not a Michaels person, but my good friend is, so I went out for her. Found a Purple tag at $70-floral arrangement & only did 90% off...Great. Lady in clearance was putting stuff in boxes not bags & gave me a big cardboard box & added plant for the $4. Didn't see the led candles for $20 or the Fountain...my last name is Fountain & I was hoping to find one. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the notice! I love Michaels. I’m not sure they do the grab bags in my area (Rockville Md) & I usually wouldn’t want what’s in them...but they are fun. I still recall another YTer buying up a bunch of grab bags and ending up with like 200 mini frames that had the last year’s date on them. So they are definitely “hit & miss.” But if you can find the individually super discounted items that you may really want or need then that’s a great thing. We all know that Michaels puts original prices on merchandise that is very high because they know you’ll be using a coupon. So a $40 item is NOT what you should ever pay for that item unless you’re desperate (which is not a state of mind that you should EVER shop with.) I think they do the grab bags or 90% off because they would otherwise trash the stuff or have to inventory and count it....which would be costly to store it and to have to pay an employee to count it. And the newer stuff is coming in. Gotta make room. 👍
I went today and got the flameless candles 3 pack for $2 instead of $20!!!!
Also if you have a Michaels app on your phone it has the price scanner on it.

Thanks so much for posting!! I ran to Michaels but I could only find one of the summer lights and one spring sign after searching the store top to bottom. When I went to check out the cashier told me they pennied out and gave them to me for free!!!!! Wish I could have found more!!
Thanks for sharing, Michaels always have beautiful flowers but some of the prices are rediculous . This also helps buyers from getting duplicate in grab bags. You really helped us a lot.
Fyi, I was told that it was the store managers discretion as to whether they make up grab bags, markdown, donate or throw the stuff in the garbage. It is being removed from their inventories. It is the individual stores that do most of this stuff, not Michaels corporate that is why there is so much variation between everyone's stores.
I have never seen grab bags at my store and I never noticed a price checker. I will have to look for the price checker.

Saw your video this morning with my husband and went to the Michael's near us just to see (for fun) if these items were ringing up that same prices. Our Michael's didn't ringing up. The fountains you showed, rang up as $3.99. The candle set rang up as 50%off. We didn't even see any of the wreathes. My husband stated maybe Michael's caught on to what was going on and repriced everything.

The Freebie Guy..........Thank you. I just found your channel and learned a lot. The reason those items are listed at 99% off is because they are supposed to go into the grab bags and they don't want to deal with people trying to return them for regular price. I'm sure if a person had one and wanted to return it for full price they could as long as they had their recipt. Otherwise they would only get the 99% off price.

I think that most of these stores that do those kinda sales are not on the west coast, at least none that I have found....you don't even find a lot of things dumpster diving, and in Washington state dumpster diving is not ligit you risk getting a ticket

When I worked at Michael's, we were supposed to pull that stuff once we discovered it was in the system that way. Normally it would be boxed up to be donated unless the manager felt like making grab bags. I wouldn't be surprised if any remaining stock of those items were pulled from the shelves after you bought them.

It's worth checking out....Seems like many people have a Michaels that doesn't do this. Where are these located. I live in Denver everything is expensive.

Newsflash here. I used to work for Michael's. The way it works is items go on clearance...and as the season goes on...check the price drops more. If you are lucky enough to find a .01 cent yes 1 penny item...buy as many as you can...because if you get to the register and realize it's only a penny, they will not let you go back and get more. You will have to stand in line all over again. Good luck hunting and remember they are all about seasonal items. The prices drop till they have no more

Wow if I knew this a couple days ago when the one store I went to had grab boxes (only full of summer pillows) I would have scanned them. BTW new subscriber here. I walked out with nada.
OMG 😱 i didn’t believe it till today. I went in and saw the grab bags and YES this were $4 so i scored with a bag of 4 boxes of 6 chargers plates per box, total of 24 charger plates for $4!!!!! Im sooooo exited will be using them for thanksgiving dinner AND x-mas dinner!!!

I got the candles for 80% off today at my Michaels & still a great deal, yes I cleaned them out, on the very top shelf & had to get someone to get them down for me, was so excited about this find, the checkout lady looked at me when she seen the price, & I just winked at her, & she asked if I cleaned them out, I said yes, she said good for you with a great big smile!

Yep here in Pasadena TX never have I seen a grab bag sale
He's going into poorly managed stores that aren't on top of getting their out-of-season items into grab bags so if you can't find it it means that you actually have a decent store! :p Employees aren't allowed to take home anything unless they buy it and usually aren't aware of things being at this steep of a discount (because if they were aware they would have to move them to grab bags). Hope this helps! I worked at Michael's for 5 years.

I bought a grab bag last week for $4, the associate told me about them as I was making my way to checkout.
I had about a dozen scentsy- like scent warmer cubes and about a dozen $15 fairy light sets in different shapes like pineapples and cactus and flamingos. Don’t know what I’m gonna do with all those but my house will forever be smelling nice!!!

Hobby stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby overprice things because things are almost always on sale. If you’re doing things right (and aren’t buying something in a pinch) then you’re not paying full price.
I worked for Michaels, and to make extra money they schedule like four people a shift, so they rarely do shelf audits. A shelf audit is where the find these 90% goodies. Never hesitate to check their dumpsters! They throw away a TON of those larger 90% items.

My Michael's puts clearance items on the clearance aisle. No grab bags and no clearance items randomly on the shelves.

Check after holidays. Sometimes a month later they put them in grab bags. Call and ask them if and when they have the sale.
Clearance items are around 70% off, grab bag items are 90% off. Not every store does them depending on there size and if they can sell out of the product, hope this helped! ^-^

I got 6 huge $4 grab boxes 3 ft long by a ft tall and just over a ft wide, paid $24 total and everything inside rang up well over $1,000 full price on the tags. Had tons of floral but also some really great wall decor items inside as well as bunches of other awesome items. Generally they do the grab bags/boxes a week or so after they mark everything 80% off that currently passing seasons/holidays decor items.
I went today after seeing your video and everything is already gone. I had no idea they did this and now I'm pissed I missed out. Grrrrrr!!!

UPDATE: I am so incredibly disappointed. I just left my store 😖... Everything you mentioned is ONLY 40% off, AND no grab bags. Maybe my area runs way behind yours on this stuff.

My local Jo-Ann's Etc. had a couple of tables of FREE items. Everyone could get 1 piece per transaction.
Here in the U.K. we don’t have Michaels or any store like it. No massive discounts or coupons. We are restricted to one chain Hobbycraft and they are expensive, so it’s the internet usually but it would be nice to touch and look before you buy

Only thing we found were some makeup brushes (pouch with 3 brushes) that were marked 12 something and rang up for 1.20 something. Found somethings with the tags you showed but rang up 40% off still. Store waa pretty clean. Thanks for the info.

It’s not really a secret sale, this might just be an error on some stores parts. I used to work there and made the grab bags. This stuff is supposed to be off of the floor bc of the ridiculous prices. They’re considered “penny items.” Once the season is over, everythiiiiing goes to cents if it’s not sold. So that stuff is taken off of the floor and made into grab bags. It’s nothing to do with tag colors, it’s really just the seasonal stuff. Technically, we weren’t allowed to sell penny items, I’m so surprised your stores were allowed to sell them.

For people that can't find these amazing deals...
Its by state... From my understanding different states have laws and regulations... For example in California, Michael's isn't allowed to sell items that are 90% off or higher... It takes a while for items to go 90% off or higher and once they do (usually seasonal items) they make them grab bags and depending on the manager, they try to put as much as they can fit in one of the large bags...
Employee aren't allowed to buy them or buy items that are 90% percent off... Go in after a major holiday and all the seasonal merchandise for that specific holiday will be marked out 80% percent off .. it goes 90% percent off a month to 2 months after that...

I tried yesterday. They had the items but not marked down. Fountain 19.99. I asked and all they said was that is the price. 😟. Disappointed too.

It depends on your local laws... For example, in California it's corporate policy or maybe it's illegal for Michael's to sell items at 90% off or more... So they make them grab bags since that's the only way to sell them...
