  • Nursing homes and other facilities are literally dumping some patients at homeless shelters. CBS 2's Dave Savini looks at one example.

      If there are no laws stating dumping is illegal, state can only fine them. It may be cold hearted and unconscionable but legally there is nothing else state can do until a law is passed. There are however other avenues they could take such as helping them move to another facility so she becomes someone else’s problem, helping her find a facility she could afford. Contacting welfare and ask them to help her. Call the ombudsman and have them deal with her.
      In KS The home, if Medicaid/Medicare certified. (Not sure how it works on Medicaid). But on Medicare they accept what they pay + they take all but $50 of your SS. If you draw a spouses SS it is the same...all but $50. If you draw both, they have to leave you with $100. It is put into your patient acct. meaning it is deposited in the homes bank and THEY draw interest on it. Upon your death, YOUR money is given to your designated contact. The home keeps the interest. If there is no designated contact they get to keep it. Doesn’t matter if there is other family, if they aren’t designated they don’t get it. If the person is private pay and run out of money and there is no family willing or able to take them, the homes social services dept should make all attempts to get them on Medicaid/Medicare. If not, they typically admit them to the hospital where it then becomes the hospitals job to find them some type of place to stay. The hosp generally will be able to get them the insurance/financial help they need. They have more resources and are better trained to handle that type of situation.

      You're missing the fact that the health care system there is fucked and the care of the elderly is even worse. In a Socialist society all this would be taken care of through taxes. Mostly paid by those with the most income and therefore well able to pay up. In reality they hide it all away in offshore tax havens or use some of it to bribe politicians to make the poorest carry the burden of taxation.

      People who are elderly or disabled all draw a disability income, those checks are sufficient to pay for an assisted living or a long term care facility, I work in a group home where everyone is intellectually disabled; They all draw a disability income , they all pay rent, their food, and clothing; HUD pays part of the rent because they can't be charged more than 10% of their income, someone is misusing these peoples money and needs to be investigated, sadly it is true that our elderly and disabled are thrown away when it becomes inconvenient for their families to take care of them.

    this happens all across the country. I was homeless for many years and in 2015 I suffered a skull fracture that left me with a subdural hematoma that required brain surgery. I was in an induced coma for almost two weeks, 2 days after my discharge I had a stroke and couldn't use the left side of my body, an ambulance brought me to the very same hospital where I had my surgery, Harborview Medical Center in Seattle WA where they diagnosed me as having had a stroke. 5 hours after I had been told I had a stroke the nurses came in with some discharge paperwork and told me I had to leave. I'm 34 now, I couldn't even walk, I had 38 surgical sutures in my scalp and half my head shaved, I couldn't talk, I was too disoriented and weak to do much about it other than ask what was happening, and then tried begging them to admit me as I was homeless and sending me out in that condition to literally go lay in the street would likely kill me from infection, they looked me right in the eye and told me "sir, we aren't a hotel.." then they agreed to put me in a motel for a week.. it was a lie, they called a cab for me and sent me to one of the shelters downtown. I suppose I was lucky for that? i had to relearn how to talk, how to walk correctly, i still cant feel the left side of my face and scalp and parts of my body are numb as well. bottom line is i should have been admitted but because i was poor and homeless, they viewed me as worthless. and it happens everyday. this is real, and there is no way for people to fight it? i tried, but nobody believed me as it was my word over the hospitals word. and who is gonna believe a homeless junky over a doctor? i doubt this will stop, its only gonna get worse.

      Sally I am one of those. Lucky I wait till I can walk, or get my wheelchair. Then I take myself as far from the city as possible. They also follow you with creepy people even at a one in the morning dump. Mine screamed at me after the ER care, and wasted all my medication since I could not get up off sidewalk. I am full aware that when I am seventy i will be too ill to stop those injections I refuse, and they will take my life and no one ever knew they do that too. Healthcare is a responsibility towards owning a city, and country, and ability to collect fines and taxes. Do not be surprised when it bursts it is either full law to kill, or full war on the entire system with wars called ACTUAL CIVIL WARS, but I doubt that. They have silent sound deterring that right now same used in Washington to stop crowds.

    They also treat patients like garbage, my father in law was treated poorly, a veteran and I spoke up after he would not wake up when I went to visit, I asked when he was last awake, had he eaten, etc. no answers, no one knew, excuse was they just Chan aged shifts, I finally called 911 because he was not responding well, they got angry but I am glad I did, his kidneys were shutting down from an infection, they ignored him, they had food on his table that was not touched, they were not monitoring what or if he could eat, it was horrible, we took him from hospital to hospice, because he was deteriorating, we don’t know if it was because of what they neglected or it was his time, he was 96 but that should not matter, he deserved dignity and respect, what if it was someone who was not getting daily visitors, then they would have suffered and died that way.

    Is this story freely lingering because of what was fabricated declares spokesperson at Antelope Valley Hospital. AV Watchman and a Pastor say different than Hospital spokesman says its their policy of discharge and if patient is combative security will assist because of safety for staff and over 200, 000 patients. People should watch that video and decide if it was fabricated...antelope valley ca. AV Watchman...js.

      Then who is lying?! AV Hospital's response to the story was these auditors 'staged' it. Until an additional clip was revealed. The first things the auditors saw -- security and staff were dumping her out of the wheelchair. Now the 'staged' story doesn't hold up. New AV Hospital director met with local FOX 11 news, after 11 had filmed the 2 auditors and that 10:00 news story was "tabled". The two auditors and three others present were arrested for "trespass" on the public sidewalk and the next day additionally charged with making threats. AV Hospital took down social media accounts and along with AVSO stalked journalists. There are numerous videos out about these points.

      Patient dumping happens far too often. Has been happening with private hospitals worried about the bottom line, burned out staff persons taking out their anger on difficult patients. If that woman was being violently combative, they should have put her in a seclusion room. If needed restraints (4 point or 2 point restraints can be used , and meds given).
      I think in the case of this woman, she was likely a difficult patient and the staff was taking their anger out on her by dumping her. She maybe a frequent flier, but if so they should have made her more stable and released her with dignity. But the woman may have been having a seizure(s). If so she should not have been released. I saw the video. The staff involved were wrong to dump this patient. It is wrong to dump any patient. The staff put this lady in harm's way, and used poor judgement and lack of a decent standard of care in this case.

    It certainly is a difficult issue. If you operate a private facility, you are doing it to make money. You have to pay your bills, your staff, your insurance and so on. So yes, if a person cannot pay eventually you have to evict them otherwise you go bankrupt and the complete facility closes. But there certainly should be processes in place that sets up these displaced people in a save environment.

    • @pm2886
      @pm2886 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is an increasing problem. And there just aren't enough facilities to house all these people who can't pay.
      Blame social decay. People not being financially responsible, and families not supporting each other. It's getting worse, too. More and more of those who believed the seductive lie the they didn't have to plan ahead (because daddy govt would take care of them), are finding out that was all BS. Choosing to believe the lie is the error though .. because plenty of people never believed it. It was always a very obvious lie.

    "Causing people to suffer because you hate them... is terrible. But causing people to suffer because you have forgotten how to care... that's really hard to understand" - Dr. Julian Bashir, Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, airing in 1995. He was commenting on the dumping of people who have no job or money in walled off districts in a near-future (to the then-audience) 2020's America. Sometimes, science fiction comes true in the very worst ways.
