You just saved a broke 19 years old guy from going to the mechanic for an oil change. Thank you!!! (I keep seeing only the V4 version on youtube you are the first i found that has the V6)
Thank you for watching and letting me know that you found it helpful! I have a playlist for things vehicle in case you find yourself wanting or needing to do more repairs or maintenance. You can find it if you browse my channel or can link it here if you would like.
I do the filter first. After dropping a slippery and hot filter into a drain pan full of oil and having it splash all over the underside and me, I changed to 'filter first' . also note how close the filter is to the hot exhaust. Bad design.
hi! thankyou for the video, i have a problem to locate the EGR valve in my engine´s equinox ´12, sitll haven´t found that valve. i don´t even know if this engine´s really have one. could you plase help me with that problem?
I couldn't find the egr valve but I did find this: www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts/gm-exhaust-gas-recirculation-egr-cooler-inlet-pipe-55514988?c=bD04Jm49U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHMmYT1jaGV2cm9sZXQmbz1lcXVpbm94Jnk9MjAxMSZ0PWx0JmU9My0wbC12Ni1mbGV4
Yes, this is my daily driver. What codes are on your Equinox and what year is it? Does it have the V6 or the 4 cylinder? Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching. If you have an Equinox, I have several videos on maintenance in a playlist that you could check out.
I actually had a conversation about this yesterday. I was told that mechanics like to use the shorter filter because it's easier to change but the one I use is the one that is listed for use on that engine
Great video. Here is a forum thread about oil filter size: mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/7692/are-there-benefits-to-using-an-oversized-oil-filter I am sure if anything goes wrong the mfg will probably void the warranty if you use a different sized filter. In my opinion as long as the filter structure on the inside is the same and your oil pressure is still within its min/max values it should be fine. But with how much tech is in these newer cars the computer could try and compensate if there are any minor issues with it.
Thank you for not only noticing but commenting on the oil filter. I looked over your link and I hope others do as well. This is the first oil change that I have done on this vehicle. I did do a search and purchased the oil filter listed. I can only assume at this point that the previous owner used a different filter
GM!!! Stupid place to put an oil filter! Those Equinox Engins are prone too failure if the oil changes are not tight, knowing that, the oil change should be made easy! Stabalizer must mean the engin is burning oil.....why use such an expensive oil as Castrol?
I used the stabilizer because I thought it was a good thing for the engine. I no longer use it regularly. The Castrol oil I used was one of the more least expensive oils I could find.

@DCAutoEnhancement since the early 90's always worked on my vehicles bare handed but the last 5 years I've used nitrile gloves. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado that had the power steering pump leak all over everything on the driver's side of the engine when I bought it from the previous owner in 2019. Before replacing the power steering pump and water pump I cleaned everything up and the nitrile gloves saves my hands from all of the built up gunk. Now whenever I work on my vehicles or lawn equipment I always wear gloves and I still have a container of Fast Orange and Gojo Cherry that I've had for at least 5-6 years that hasn't been used because my hands are clean when I'm done 😂

That's great. Check out the Equinox playlist on my channel for more videos on the V6
Found out from this video that I own a 2011 Equinox, not a 2012 and finally changed the oil. Thanks for being so thorough! Super helpful

Thanks brother gonna change my oil now

That’s why you let the engine cool before doing this.
@@RH-xs8gz Ah, but you aren't supposed to do cold oil changes.
Thank you help me out a lot boss
Glad I could help

Is this your truck I have the same one.
I had some codes I was wondering if any pointer on my codes??.

Is there a reason the check engine light came on after the oil change?
I would check oil level. That can cause a light. Another idea is to take your car by an auto parts place and have them check for codes
If you were local, I'd check it out for you.
Is the Lucas oil stabilizer like STP?
I don't know for sure.
GM put the smaller filter on at the factory, saves a few cents and may be 'out of the way' more.

the shorter filter may be the right one due to its length getting it off.

Lucas will destroy that motor. If you have an oil burn issue just use 10w30
Luckily I haven't destroyed the motor yet. I no longer run the Lucas (not for any particular reason) I just make sure to run 5w 30 dexos.

Are you scared to get your hands dirty? I notice alot of gloves on the new generation. Must be a bunch of babies
Yeah that or not wanting to destroy my cameras. I can't afford not to take care of my equipment.
