  • Take a look how I used the existing track detection already present on the UPSF Joint Line to set up a speedometer to measure my train's speed.

Great information, I have always wondered how that system worked

Thanks for sharing this function in JMRI. 👍👍 I was thinking about buying a device to measure loco speed to help with speed matching. I can just use IR sensors and Arduino to do this.

    Ooh, I like this!!!
Is there a way to add the speed as a value and then post it to the dispatchers panel? Could you theoretically add a speedomoter between every block and track a trains speed from block to block?
Are you using JMRI for your panels, or is it CATS?

I did not see any options to use the reported speed from the window of the speedometer in other parts of JMRI.
As for my dispatcher screen, I used JMRI Control Panel Editor, made my own graphics, and animated it with Logix. I model modern Union Pacific and wanted a screen that looked more like UP's CAD3 system. CATS, while a great choice if you just want something modern, is based on the BNSF TDMS system. As a UP modeler, it wouldn't fit right with our layout.
I have a video on my Signal Up Productions Facebook page showing the functionality of my signal system.
