JMRI Operations - Just the Basics

In this video I go through some of the basic options to get JMRI to manage car forwarding on a model railroad.
We take a look at downloading the software from www.jmri.org setting up the software, adding locations, routes, trains, and cars, then building and moving some trains. Finally, we discuss some of the common issues and challenges newcomers may face when first using the software.

Thank you. We've been using JMRI Ops for our UPSF layout for 10 years now. Minor changes, but still mostly just basic as I showed in this video. 500 cars, and things generally run smoothly

Wonderful video thanks. Helped me enormously get a start understanding JMRI operations. JMRI is so powerful it's easy to be overwhelmed and get discouraged. This video helped prevent crippling discouragement!

Yes. Overall we're happy with how it works on the UPSF layout. I would never say that JMRI Operations is the end all be all. But it's a great tool for some layouts!

I just downloaded jmri 5.2 yesterday. This is the first time I've installed it and it will not load. I ran the test and it says that Java is running correctly but that something is wrong with the installation of jmri. Any suggestions?

Did you download the right version for your computer's operating system? Mac or Windows?
Is this a new install, or did you have an older version that you are updating?

Windows 10, this is the 1st time to download any of the jmri and I got 5.2. Downloaded Java 11 early in the day before getting the jmri.

You may try an earlier version of JMRI. There might be something about 5.2 that doesnt work with your computer system.

Are you sure you're commenting on the correct video?? I was using a mic on this video, and the audio sounds fine.
