    This is part of my playlist of fretboard memorization videos where I show you as many perspectives of learning the guitar notes on the as thoroughly as possible. This is one of many easy way to learn fretboard on the guitar. This lesson uses CAGED octave shapes to visualize scales and the intervals in those scales easier.

    If someone understands it, they can explain it simply. Which means they are a good teacher. You are indeed one.

      There's a quote by Albert Einstein, paraphrasing, "If you can't explain it to a 5th grader then you probably don't understand it yourself". Very true! And Ricky is great at explaining stuff.

    Thank you for teaching where the notes lie to one another on the fretboard. Many teachers focus on chord shapes as a first step which didn’t work for me at all.

    I've seen a lot of diagrammed CAGED forms and PENTATONIC scales but rarely has anyone done anything but verbally assign the values. I know, after some time screwing around with them, that most of the confusion and misunderstanding has come from not learning the intervals. I have heard them described before but it never stuck because there was no picture in my mind of them. I am enthused that the CAGED OCTAVES and the identified INTERVALS on the same diagram are starting give me a feel for all of this.
    Now the work begins - get this stuff in my head and under my fingers. Now that I can see why notes sound right/wrong looking at your diagrams I can have some fun "playing" instead of it just being WORK! I am finally able to put my time on the 6 banger to good use (adding lots of notes to the diagrams and cross referencing the lessons in your book - very useful).
    Thanks for helping to re-light the fire. ....... btw - if I ever feel like I have completed cross referencing the lessons I might have to send you a copy.

    After going through several similar lessons on your channel ending up with this today it all makes sense.This is the best comprehensive autopsy of the minor pentatonic in terms of its relations with intervals and how those in turn relate the oft quoted CAGED mnemonics for guitar. You're the true Guru who never tires at imparting your hard earned knowledge to all those lost souls. Keep doing what you're doing. This particular lesson used technology very well that I didn't have to squint to follow your pencil on paper illustration this time 🤪.Thank you very much Sir 🙏

    Great instructor. I really got a lot from you other videos. There is one question I would like to know from you :
    Could I use C major pentatonic box 1 pattern for all the chords in the chord progression in the key of C ?

    • @rickysguitar
      @rickysguitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can. The tonal centre will shift with each chord though and you’ll get some ambiguity if you play chord IV (F) because the note F isn’t in the C Major pentatonic. It will sound “home” when you play C on C. Watch out for the tensions on the other chords. That’s usually an indicator that you need to use a different vocabulary tool, (scale/arp/interval/lick).
