Is this legit

Hey can you make video on Stratocaster vs telecaster
Aint no way anyone can be THAT good with just a pentatonic
Será???
Closest case I can think of is Page's solo in Stairway to Heaven
A good chunk fits the A minor pentatonic, but yes, at certain moments he added more notes from the A minor scale that make it richer
Slash, Hendrix !!??
@@montypalmer4256 clearly you didn’t get the JOKE
Enter Tony Iommi.
Me who doesn’t know any scales: “Interesting, interesting. Ooh. Yes, that was quite excellent.”
whether or not you know the scales you can hear a difference 🤘
You can’t play an instrument and not know scales. It’s like trying to read without knowing how to spell.
@@adamf.4823 You can, and I honestly think I’ve become more creative because of it. I’ve seen all these videos of dudes saying “Practice these scales for [Insert number of] hours, and you’ll get a lot better at guitar.”
But it’s like, that’s kinda boring, isn’t it? Practicing the same sequence of notes over and over, for hours. I’d rather spend that time makin’ riffs and stuff, being creative. You can practice scales all you want, but you can’t make a chorus effect guitar swell as ethereal sounding as I can.
The only thing I know for real is, if the notes sound good in sequence, it’s good. If separate guitar parts blend together so well you’ll literally ascend, it’s really good.
@@ZorrotheArtist you don’t just practice the “same sequence” for hours and hours. There’s lots of different scales and all those scales have different shapes. You can work the scales up and down the fretboard too and not just in one spot. You can try to get good being self taught without knowing any scales or theory but you WILL hit a ceiling. This channel has videos for people that think they can get good by just teaching themselves and not learning any theory, chords, or scales. “You can practice scales all you want but you can’t make a chorus effect guitar swell(?) as ethereal sounding as I can” lmao ok dude.
@@lebronjames8544 No need to be condescending, asshole. You don’t even know what a guitar swell is? That’s… Odd, given the current topic of conversation, that being needing to learn things in order to become a “Better” musician.
When will I supposedly hit this ceiling you speak of, because there doesn’t seem to be one. I don’t need to know scales or theory to create riffs, I go off what I think sounds best in sequence and 99% of the time, it works. Wouldn’t ya’ say that’s more impressive than creating riffs based off of some stupid set sequence of notes? Because I would.
You undersell people who are self taught. Kurt Cobain was self taught and he ended up creating one of the most recognized and successful bands ever by just using a sequence of simple power chords, no fancy scales and he knew no theory either. None of the members of Radiohead aside from Johny Greenwood know a fuckin’ thing about music theory, and they’ve created some of the most critically acclaimed albums ever like OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows. Dave Grohl doesn’t know music theory, and he’s the main guy that creates song parts for the Foo Fighters, yet he still created amazing albums and songs such as Bridge Burning from Wasting Light.
Again, you undersell self taught musicians. Besides, who cares if there’s a ceiling, sometimes simplicity can be more complex than complexity. Just a few simple notes can speak more words than a bunch of notes all within a certain scale.
The pentatonic solo was 🔥
The best word to describe that solo is
@@LitheFulminare The best word to describe that solo isn't.
Such solos
Unmatched
memento mori
It’s cool hearing harmonic minor in a context other then metal, didn’t know it could be so jazzy
Jazz, Classical, Metal, and Spanish stuff.
Although Jazz only uses harm minor in passing it seems like. They use scales very differently in jazz.
Mostly melodic minor for jazz
There’s this unknown guitarist called Carlos Santana who did a few albums in that style.
there's a lot of latin guitarrists that use the harmonic minor in more jazzy contexts
you can name Santana and some Baden Powell songs
Listen to some Django
That harmonic minor is JUICY
The licks are flavorful, as well. Tangy, even. 🎸
Ayo??! 😳🤨🤨🤨
Sounds kinda like Marty Friedman imo(speed it up a bit(
like minors in general 😉
@@taufiqa.farizi9103🤨
Now mix the two and you have a santana solo
sus
I was thinking about Slash in the first place, but that's true too~
Penta+Harmonic minor is wonderful tho o/
@@Hito_Fox Slash uses that combination a lot too, but I think Santana uses that every phrase lmao. But yes, it's a wonderful sound
@@delzinhogameplays possible, i haven't analysed every phrase of those two guys :p
I thought of Slash first just because he was my "starting guitar" motivation when I was like 13 or 14, so he pops into my mind before Santana, even if I love both of them now :D
@@Hito_Fox haha man, slash was one of my first motivations too
As a minor, I can relate
as g minor, I cannot relate
lmao
But are you harmonic?
Finger A minor😳
but are you a scale?
It's not necessarily about the scale but how you use it. Pentatonic is sick in certain spots, harmonic minor is definitely my favorite though, it's really cool with 3 augmented chords and 4 diminished you get access to way more interesting sounds.
But half of the notes sound sharp or flat - I know it's deliberate, but that's what puts most people off of jazz: the wild, irregular note and key changes and the sheer spamming of notes in general.
My girlfriend tells me this all the time 😆
@@hanburgundy4317 It's a really cool conversation! Exactly the same reason why people hate jazz, is the reason why people love jazz.
Tension and release, is one of the fundamental pillars of music composition, and jazz is a masterful genre for the development of that very concept (classical music too! Of course).
It really only sounds out of place to an ear that's not familiarized with the lexicon, and/or the functionality of each musical component (harmony, melody, scales, voice leading, counterpoint, chromaticism, chord tones, extensions, etc, etc.). 😁🙌🏼
true, nothing is better than playing some 3rd minors and add a diminished note. harmonic minor chords are fire
The dissonance at the end of the first phrase was awesome. Great solo!
harmonies in harmonic minor 🤯
The harmonies in the harmonic minor section lmao
nice pfp
Why tf is there a full jar nutella next to that chair 😂
i was abt to say that lol
Pentatonic solo was so fire he finished and walked off before the camera man could notice.
dude was playing two guitars simultaniously in different dimension
“Weird flex, but okay” 😂 great video!
Accurate battle result
I love the whole stereotype that pentatonic users are the assholes meanwhile most of them don't give a shit and just wanna play guitar while it's the people who know more scales who are pretentious about it
plot twist*
the pentatonic guy walked away because of boredom
did anyone notice the nutella in the corner
Loving the harmonic minor, also loving the “about to cry” guitar face!
Wish I had guitar face like that
That 5:4 harmony was a very uncomfortable choice and I’m absolutely loving it
I WANT THIS SOLO TO BE RECORDED ASAP THAT WAS SO GOOOOD!!!
im sorry but brandons guitar face looks like he just smelled something rancid
Cause that riff was NASTY
I learnt the harmonic minor and all it’s boxes way before I fully learnt the pentatonic. HM just just sounds awesome.
literally me rn my first scale was f# dominant phrygian/b harmonic minor
For the first time since December, 52 Week Guitar Player is officially re-open for enrollment. I'm looking to help 90 guitar players improvise anywhere on the neck in any key over the next 12-24 months. Enrollment will CLOSE ON MARCH 31.
Time is ticking. Once the program is closed again it will remain closed for another few months. You could use that time to advance as a player or continue fookin around.
Get structure, practice routines, feedback, accountability, and live interaction with pros. Check out this video for more information: @t
He spared the other guy from the embarrassment by leaving.
Aint no one give the major scale love anymore 😢
The worst thing is that in my opinion it is the most beautiful and the one that is used the most in popular songs
I actually really like pentatonic solos. But there is no magic to them anymore. I grew up on it. When I hear it I know exactly what's happening on the fret board. And it doesn't excite me.
it still sounds great, but I wish I still felt the soul in it that I did when I was young
He couldn't show the pentatonic solo because then we'd realize that it still sounded better anyway...
"shred is nonsense! you gotta FEEL the music!!"
*proceeds to play 3 notes over and over very slowly, barely hitting them with wrinkly old sausage fingers
But people will call You "Jazz Guy"
Bro was playing Eugene's tricks bag
Bro spawned a shadow clone in a 1v1 guitar battle
Solo battle!
'Proceeds to clone himself halfway through'
This harmonic sounded like what a guitar snob would play at GC.
That pentatonic solo was definitely one of the solos of all time
The sentiment of not learning anything new is really a plague in the music world. I've had to quit bands when a guitarist said.. "yeah I'm over 30 now so I'm pretty much done learning.. I don't want to learn new stuff".
What?!?!? I'm now 41 and still learning every day.
Edit - nice production of the programmed beats. I like the 4 on the floor/funk/hi hats especially.
Bro you’re fucking hilarious. I was having a terrible day and you genuinely just turned it around. Much love
Now I have enough motivation to learn mysic theory
Harmonic minor on Tele with that backing track to me kinda sounds like if Santana went country
Bro pulled out that shadow clone jutsu for the guitar solo
The about to yuke up on yer shoes face is mandatory
-I've learnt pentatonic scale, wby?
-well, harmonic minor, mitosis
This is exciting... Really interested in this change 💯
Bro was so locked in he summoned a shadow clone to harmonize 😂😂
Bro got some serious facial expressions
Probably stood on a bee
Sounds so good !!!
Nailed it on the “why are you showing off” line. Like… hey… it’s not my fault you only know the pentatonic scale and know it barely at that. Thats how it goes most of the time at least lol. Musical ignorance and the language barrier between the informed and the uninformed is one of the greatest lesions on my existence lol.
Meanwhile, 90% of listeners find jazz off-putting and pretentious and would rather listen to blues or rock and roll where every note is in the same key.
@@hanburgundy4317 Yes, and not to take away from the experience as a listener by any means! Blues and rock defines the vast majority of us.
I like to a call harmonic minor
when there’s a choir of kids singing literally anything
"-why ya showing off bro"
"-f**k you"
ends conversation
I love harmonic minor. Gonna transcribe your solo
Absolutely beautiful
that tele is beautiful! never seen one quite like it...
youtube short: approching the end
Patonic scale harmonic guy: 🫥
The Pentatonic guy went to get Zakk Wylde.
Don’t know much about guitar but sick ass solo. It’s like some final boss level shit🔥🔥🔥
Really sweet
Bro is his own chorus pedal
There's a time and a place for everything. I love and use both when appropriate.
"Haven't learned anything new" 😂😂
Dude that sounded sick
Gorgeous
If you ask ten people whether they'd prefer to listen to Eric Clapton (all pentatonic) or Yngwie Malmsteen (loves him some harmonic minor) nine of them would choose Clapton.
Everytime someone say that plays for 30 years I think hes like that guy
That socks and shorts combo would have got me beaten like a ginger stepchild if I'd worn them to school.
Harmonic minor scale = best scale
Change my mind
Cant change facts
Just blend minor scales together for a great sound. I always blend minor pentatonic, natural minor and harmonic minor together plus all the other minor modes.
that "harmonic"part was sick tho
The “I learned it sixty years ago and haven’t learned anything new since” is so sad but true. I can’t learn enough and certain people (ahem, mainly certain generations), know a handful of chords and some tired old scales and don’t want to learn anything else yet they sit back and trash talk others that are light years ahead of them because hiding behind a keyboard is easier than practicing. Cool vid, B.
That’s one of the easiest things to be butt hurt about not knowing 😭
brandon is so powerful that he was able to summon a clone of himself
LOL you got me at the end
My guy went threw all the stages of grief
I love the face of smelling a big disgusting fart while playing xD
the incorporation of silence in the pentantonic solo was effective 🔥
Excellent guitar riffs good job bro🤗👍☝️
This is how find out the psychosocial solo is harmonic minor
Dayum I was waiting for pentatonic solo
*A wild drummer has appeared*
He's so cool that he can use shadow cloning
Damm you are such a good guitarist
That wasn’t even a battle that was an execution
sunglasses dude convinced me.
This man’s guitar face is crying…
Mine is a serial killers face before he does his work
I’ve always thought of the pentatonic as the harmonic minor with stepping notes
You know what… Brandon!!! You just struck a pentatonic nerve 😢
Brandon my 21 bday coming up September on your 52 weeks guitar lesson. I’ve been on my grind playing at least every for hour or more. I need a sensei to guide me
Shiting on guitarists for using the the pentatonic scale is like shiting on humans for drinking water
Just learning only the minor pentatonic shape? Maybe you kinda deserve it.
For learning all five of the pentatonic shapes (minor, major, suspended, minor-#5 and suspended-b7)? That’s a cool, good variety.
But musically speaking it’s still one colour. Other scales have different colours to paint with, and using them as a progression on your original pentatonic shapes is the KEY to standing out from the herd.
If pentatonic is red, then maybe the harmonic minor is yellow, the major scale is green, the EVIL JAPANESE Hirajoshi scale is blue, and the exotic Byzantine scale is purple.
Now THAT’s plenty of colours to work with!
Your analogy is off because guitarists don’t need the pentatonic scale to sound good. A better analogy would be:
“Shitting on guitarists for using the pentatonic scale is like shitting on painters who only use the colour blue.”
@@Matthew_Klepadlo 🤓 there are 12 notes play them in whatever order you want now you have every colour that exists. All this bullshit is how we analyze music not how we write music. Nobody goes into a writing session thinking “yea im gonna use the Byzantine then maybe mix in some harmonic minor and blahblahblah”. If you write music like that you probably come up with some horrible wankary like dream theatre
@@Matthew_Klepadlo Like this dudes solo in the video nothing really musical about it just sounds like someone running through a scale
Really not that much harder to learn heptatonic scales and you get way more choices for creating interesting sounds
I refer to harmonic minor scale as the Castlevania scale because it's all I can hear when something is played in it
That scale got me curling my toes.
The pentatonic scale didn't even think you were worthy of being humbled by its superior tone
Bro CANNOT beat that
Thanks for repping the high socks as my feet are not doing so well and (high-sock) rockin' doesn't cut off the circulation to my feet as much. Now start pairing that with a kilt and you're ready for battle! P.S.: You're already wielding an axe.
Them socks are higher than the unemployment rates 😭😭
literally the mario theme at the start lmao
Kirk hammet: i learned it 60 years ago and ive been playing it ever since
Great video
Why I thought about wonderful slippery things
That was honestly a pretty borning solo. "How to play shit you've heard a million times before but always forget because it was boring" should be the title to your video.
