I had a great time playing this truly one-of-a-kind puzzle game. Check it out for yourself here: bit.ly/467uGVB
Thanks again to Focus Entertainment for the sponsorship! (#ad)
Please TH-cam series of this or more twitch vods
@@PacificEgg No chance, after the end of the sponsored segment he said he loved it but that he will stop the playthrough early to not spoil it (especially given that it's a puzzle game)
Ok NL
@@comedysyrup He just didn't want to fry his egg with the harder puzzles that come later on in the game :P
Saw your video, watched 15 minutes, knew I wanted it. Bought it and played it all in one sitting. It was awesome!
Him mixing up the "closed" and "open" glyphs and bragging about his cleverness is such a good bit
It's an incredible bit
I did the exact same thing on my first playthrough. I feel like the first lever isn't immediately obvious between the "down" and "up" positions, because both look like "up" at a glance. As the very first instructional piece its crucial for that to be as clear as possible. Beyond that the experience was largely really good.
@@TheBioRules It's funny b/c I saw several other streamers getting mixed up too! People are saying something about it being the first puzzle and the player isn't yet used to the perspective of the lineart.
@@TheBioRules possibly done on purpose to encourage editing guesses
Being honest I'm enjoying the variety brought to the channel by sponsored content and would not mind seeing more of it
Real shit Chorus: Real Shit.
He seems to almost always take sponsors that he at least thinks he'd enjoy playing, which really helps. Really the only difference between the sponsored videos and regular videos of new games is that NL will stop every now and then to give his little ad spiel.
Personally I would hate mind it
I unironically love when NL gets arrogant about stuff, even if he's wrong or right. It's just good entertainment
Picked this up based on you playing it, did it straight through in ~9 hours. Thoroughly enjoyed, beautiful game.
This reminds me of him doing german trivia questions on Schlag den Star trying to guess what was being asked of him lmao
That was such a classic episode
LMAO I've seen that video like 14 days ago for the first time. I missed it / wasn't around when it came out
Bro I’ve been around since 2014
why does he have ears 😭
The raw bald thumbnails really do hit different
@@squid_pro_quoso trueeeeee
To be fair, I totally thought the lever would be pulled the other way, like he assumed
He has ears?!
It’s a subtle reminder he is in fact bald
I'm so librarian pilled I was waiting for an image to pop up when nl started talking about that Balenciaga meme
I have a feeling since it's sponsored he won't play more but oh my god I would love to see him play the whole game. I bought it within 10 minutes of watching him play it and love watching him struggle through it like I did.
This game is soooo good. It's so smart, the way the symbols have been designed is often so intuitive once you figure them out (ie plant / garden, or man / variations on man). I watched this video for an hour, paused to buy the game, played for almost 3 hours, then came back to finish this. No spoilers but the third area is going to be a real struggle for me as an English speaker. Thanks for playing yet another game I was compelled to buy, NL.
YES the syntax of the third area was tough but so interesting. i LOVED the 4th area as well, so well done
@@shweetnectar the problem with the third area was that the first two established so clearly that pictograms are likely to look like the thing they describe (impure/warrior), or that word symbols have common roots (garden/abbey) and the third language had nothing my brain could utilize. Fourth was great, yes, my main hurdle was not understanding the number system and interpreting the graffiti backwards. Finished it last night, it took me 11h57 but I did everything. I loved being google translate for the messaging system.
@@zerobadideas that’s interesting because english is my second language so the third and fourth areas were a lot easier for me than the first and second. obv the third area throws a lot at you in the first two minutes but after that it came naturally to me, whereas in the first and second i felt like i was constantly missing something :/ the fourth area was my favourite actually. also the translating part was for sure the coolest part of the game. so well done.
The 3rd floor(?) struggle is real. Still intuitive but not instantly. The monkeys' clue, it is exactly which-for-what.
How the people in different civilization addresses the others gives an introspective insight. Great motives and messages!
“Object, subject verb” for the 3rd area.
Kate is wild for vacuuming during a sponsored stream
That felt like a post-stream argument in the making
She hadn't started vacuuming until after the sponsored segment was supposed to end, so I bet they didn't see it as a big deal since really NL was off the company's time at that point. However when she first started vacuuming he did look a bit shocked at first lol.
@@menderbug1 it's not that serious
He sold me the game way before the vacuuming started, so its ok.
I was watching the stream live and tuned out at the lever part so I could buy and play it myself. Got 100% Achievements and had a blast through it all. Very cool game.
Man brute forces every puzzle in the game
This is a good-ass game. I'm deeply interested by it. It's like Tunic except it keeps track of the translation for you.
“My sense of direction is insane” (goes the wrong way)
image of character wagging finger (sign for no) and holding hand up (sign for stop) "This means Temple" LMAO
I started watching this out of curiosity and quickly realized this game was beyond perfect for me and I couldn't just watch someone else solve it. Bought it on my switch and played it all the way through in one long sitting.
The game is stunningly beautiful in so many ways. Not just the visuals, or the clever puzzles, but the way the different languages are designed, and also conveyed. Playing with the kid to realize "hide" and "seek" so intuitively, along with many later moments. The devs made something special here.
I highly recommend it, especially to those who enjoy puzzles, and most fervently to those who enjoy learning languages.
i really want a game like this for real languages.
I have never loved and hated a video so much at the same time
1:09:39 lmfao this is why i love NL. It's a good deal on a 12-pack btw, i was impressed even if she wasn't!
Wholesome and relatable anecdote for the modern era
NL walking into the final room in the maze and being a pixel away from confirming his earlier mistranslated guess, only to walk away because he's too busy talking to chat to pay attention to the game, is peak NL.
Please play the entirety of the game! I'm having a blast watching
He pronounces "babel" as "babel" not "babel"
but pronounces "bagel" as "bagel and not "bagel""
This man is truly an enigma.
Bag El
Error on line 2. Unclosed quotation mark
@@somebadbatter great spot!! I’ve fixed it thanks to you :)
@@nabcno you haven't lol
Americans believe it was a tower made of bagels
3 minutes into the video, I'm buying this game. Overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam too.
Tough game to promote. It's the kind of game that's much more enjoyable blind, and I really want to play it yet I couldn't peel my eyes off this video since the game is so pogged.
Yeah, exactly me .. I wanted to play it myself but I couldn't stop watching... now there's no point for me to play.. unless like couple years later if I forget the solutions... tho I'll still remember the core elements I'm sure
@@vario6492 I did some research and there's a total of five languages to decode, so NL covered a fifth, and probably the easiest fifth at that. I'll give it a few weeks and then buy it, probably remember most of the beginning, but will most definitely enjoy the rest tremendously.
@@vario6492 there's still so much in it for you! as Sirondium said, the game has a few more languages and I can attest that they are way harder than this one
this is the kind of sponsorships i would happily watch anytime!
I almost always enjoys NLs sponsored videos. I think it provides some variety plus, it usually is in the range of stuff he plays. This is one of those kinds of games where I would happily watch him play the whole game, but I think I might actually get it because I have an interest in language.
The vacuuming is so comical it might be a bit.
NOT NOW KATE, I'M TALKING TO THE BABYLONIANS ABOUT GOD
Absolutely fucking loved it! ... I beg Kate to start chopping wood in the background of the next stream
He didn't find the fate of the Preacher.
Immediately reminds me of Journey. Love it
Would love to see more of this :)
I'd love to see more of this. Please NL!
Oh this is totally my kind of game. Languages AND puzzles.
HE'S BALD?!?
no he has headphones
If we give those glyphs one syllable words to give us a romanized alternative to the pronunciation, then SaSa LeLe might be a very real thing in their language
Me Me Person Person
Sa Sa Le Le
We are the people?
Started watching this video this morning, stopped 10 minutes in, bought the game (it was already on my wishlist), beat the game, and finished the video. Good way to spend a sick day.
So awesome that he noticed the glyph relation. A lot of streamers never noticed
Ton of context: "me me you me?" Zero context: "go away or well kill you, got it" 😂
i can see why streamers have a hard time with this one. when i think i get something and nl doesnt i get so mad! its especially funny when then im wrong.
More of this please!
Visually makes me go back to "La abadía del crimen" in my old sinclair spectrum
why is he naked in the thumbnail
him missing two of an object meaning -object-, plural, for such a long time had me yowling to myselfç
I love when babies bae-ble, learning languages on bae-blefish, and the sound of bae-bling brooks.
21:44 I never get tired of this bit 😂
What is the origin of this "him me" meme?😂
I loved this game, picked it up and finished it in one go
Same! Even completed it a few day later
Got stop watching 6 mins in because now I want to buy the game. This will be fourth NL tested game I buy.
I need more of this ;-;
Did NL ever play Tunic? I loved the game manual in that game
Im buying the game on switch right now, but was unable to find a way to do it through your link. The amount of games I find through sponsored segments, that I buy on switch without the sponsor being able to tell, is too high :
Pogged outta my gourd for the W in the spacial reasoning puzzle
nl looks so different without headphones on his head omg
I need that brain capacity to retain my knowledge of the Dudbear language.
Really enjoying the look of this game
Immediately played the whole game with my BF (good game for some couch coop! I moved and we did the figuring out together) and we LOVED IT
Play it all!
this game is actually so cool
No headphones NL Thumbnail is so cursed. No one told me he was bald
One punch man
Had a good run with this game, literally drew gods in that card game almost every time. This was too short for how great it was.
7:21 When did nl play obra den? is it available on TH-cam?
Brother it's literally the first result when you type "Northernlion Obra Dinn" in the search bar
+1 to get notifications
bootleg nlss obra dinn
sadly as far as i know he never played it live :( but he has mentioned it in other ocations so maybe he just played it without streaming it
@@KaraDabbe Look for 'bootleg nlss obra dinn'
This is painful yet entertaining
NL making either a Brand New or Rushmore reference
he said bayble lmao
This game is sick!
Warrior passes warrior, you mean En Passant?
Graveyard is a yard with graves
loveless by my bloody valentine casually playing in the background
I saw Chelle play an earlier version of this on Wanderbots channel. It looks really good.
game goes hard
Took me 10 hours to finish the game. Thanks for showing it to me
How much of the game is left after this?
@@vario6492about 8 hours 20 according to this commenter

Warrair!
Penny House!
He do be just making stuff up then believing it
Pog NL's speed run knowledge of smb64
He literally has run 16 star on the channel before if you're newer
Clearly very inspired by Return of the Obra Dinn and a unique take. Cool game!
He does it on purpose I swear, genuinely, I actually believe sponsers see better sales/engagement due to NL sharing his "accidental" failure at games.
Immediately I like the concept but I kinda wish it never had the validation stage and just let you continue on with your own unaltered interpretations
+2
should have been done differently, maybe an option. It helps move the game along a lot but it can also be used to "game" the game
I think validation is optional for like 95% of the glyphs in this game. If you want to play this game on hard mode, you technically could.
it reminds me of Heaven's Vault, another language game where for the most part, they let you have erroneous translations which can lead to your character coming to the wrong conclusions and misinterpreting clues or lore. It's a dope game, less polished than this one but I really recommend it if you haven't played it!
Heavens vault has been on my radar, but ive been avoiding it. I hear its a visual novel? those annoy me when they have all the branching paths like a choose your own adventure @@kinesin8221

Northerlion is playing this?? POG!!!!!
Please sir, may I have some more…

Oh man too bad this is a sponsored segment, I wanted a whole playthrough.
i bought this game like halfway into the stream and played it myself- its a great game.
How much of the game is left after when NL stopped playing?

If this type of game is really up anyone’s alley, try looking into Myst. It’s dated as fuck (though the 2021 remaster looks good), but it’s the grandfather of puzzle games like this - similar concept but much deeper (or tedious lol)
anybody remember selling lamps to the bears in legend of mana
I remember collecting runes for an Ork smith over several houres and places in two words II and getting jack shit in return.
Dub!
Someone should do this with real languages. I bet people would learn way faster than through the nonsense apps out there now.
Also, wtf is that noise in the background? Did your wife open a juice shop next to your desk?
We're so back
1:06:02 he does know graveyard is grave+yard right
idea: once you get all the words, replace them with funnier words of the same part of speech and play the game again like mad libs
"What was it?" "7.49" 😂
Um actually it's the tower of bagel
1:12:01
This game requires a brain that I do not have
holy fuck was this game specifically made for my autistic ass. like this shit is giving me the good brain juices like nothing has before.
How does mf keep getting paid to play really cool games lately? Jokes aside this looks dope.
Potato, Po-tah-to, sure. One of those examples I believe needs to be spelled differently to differentiate between the phonetic pronunciations and therefore I believe one pronunciation is slightly more "correct" but still falls under personal preference. With BAA-BAL, I believe that seeing as how it's the root or whatever the term is of the word babble, as in babbling brook or someone who babbles on and on (like me right now) and no one says someone BAY-BULLs on and on, that the correct pronunciation is most definitely BAA-BULL. My two cents.
(not clickbait)
Bro i rly thought NL was smart
