Thank you so much! I had a watch that was my moms and I want to wear it! Since she been gone for a long time! Today I got the back open thanks to your video! Hopefully soon I will get the batteries! Blessings to you and your channel!
The Needle nose (with tape across my case cover) worked like a charm. My local Watch/Jeweler has been closed for 2 years. Thank you for making the video
You can always use masking tape to keep from scratching the back or front of the watch, just leaving the removal part exposed enough to use the pliers on,works good.
Yes but when you fix watches die a living and are changing batteries on 50+ watches a day, it’s just not practical. You’re better off learning to do it without the tape. Thank god I don’t change batteries no more. If you’re a watch maker starting out, try to get the fuck away from changing batteries.
Brilliant! My cheapo watch stopped working after taking it into the ocean. A simple kitchen knife showed all the problem was, was a drop of water between the battery and the contact, and now it's back working again, so simple! Very well explained!
I have an alternative which is by using cleaning rubber gloves. Rubber gloves have excellent grip and I managed to spin the back case of my watch and tough ceiling lamp lid as well.
Thanks for the tip it worked for me lol after trying scissors I didn't have a needle nose pliers was getting frustrated but saw this comment and tried it with the kitchen glove's and it totally worked good looking out.
I know nothing about watches but got one gifted to me long ago. This video and some of the comments taught me how to open it with no damage at all to it, thanks! What I used was masking tape and thick scissors
Simplest method is to open even the tightest screw-down watch back without any risks is to superglue a large nut to the back of the case. Allow the superglue a full 24 hours to fully cure. Once the superglue is cured, you can apply a spanner to give you the leverage needed to remove even the tightest watch back. Once the back is removed, simply soak it in acetone (nail varnish remover) for 6 hours or so, and the nut will drop off.
Thank you very much sir. I will try. The guy of the jewlery told me that I have to pay him 25 euros. My watch is very old but I need to keep it with me because it's a present from my dad, and he passed away a few years ago and that's why my watch is very special for me. Regards and God bless you.
Wow! Thank you so much man! You just saved me the time, money and effort of having to go to the watch repair shop. I have the second type of watch used in the video. The pressure watch and this worked perfectly! Thanks again!!!! 👍🥳
Thick ended scissors with masking tape to protect the back worked like a charm for me. Sadly I'd scratched the back earlier when trying without the tape. Don't make the same mistake :) :) :)
Dude you're a life saver...I accidentally dropped my dad's watch and the back of the watch fell off ....found this video and now I could stay alive and chase my dream 🏃
Hope do notice me because i have a steel back watch also' it fell down on the wood but surprisingly; there's no scratch and dents etc but the watch stopped working' any tips?
Might try putting some clear scotch tape on the back to prevent scratches. If you're worried about scratches & a little over the notches to help the plier tips grip it. When I use a dremel/grinder to port small engine cylinders. I put tape in the cylinder to keep the grinding bit from slipping & scratching the cylinder wall.
I just found a very nice Lucien Piccard model 26784D. Not a scratch on it, in great shape. The back was a bear to get back on after replacing the battery. Swiss made, very low tolerance. Video helped.
I got my battery replaced at a third party story an hour away and found out he had tightened the back with the silicone ring sticking out. The store was called "Fix it", kind ironic i need to order a replacement part after they replace a battery.
I need some help closing it. I tried to use a couple of different hard cover books, but my fossil watch is not closing. The hard cover books are getting bent. Please help
Well i fixed my problem of my watch the battery didn't finish instead the parts had gotten stuck in the gears but now the second hand is 4X more faster now how do i fix that? Like if the normal clock is 12:30 and i wait for 5 mins exactly it becomes 12:35 obviously but in my watch if it's 12:30 i sit for 5 min and again see the time it's 12:56 already lik what????.....
Thx for the good video, found my old watch and the battery was dead, did go to a clock maker and he wanted 50 euro for the battery and the change, i was nope doing it home instead :)
@@edcgunner I managed to open the watch to change it's batteri, but couldn't lock it back. When I pressed it by pressure the watches sec and minute shower popped inside the glass :( . Lesson learned 😅

This was SUPER helpful! You saved me time and money. I greatly appreciate the tips!
So helpful! Needed to remove 2 watch backs, 1 of each kind. Thank you!
Thank you. I had the unnotched watch back and used the blunt knife as you suggested. Cost $3.00 for battery instead of $20.00 at the jewellers. 👍

But what if I’m impatient? 😂😂
Ain’t nobody got time for that 😂
My back case is a see-through, it'll damage it forever 😭
Time is the drawback 😂
Thanks for making this video!! My watch stopped today and I'm excited to find that it can start again! I found that a butter knife works well too.
I have managed to fix my watch!! Again thank you for this video so much!!!

Look at it carefully with a bright light and a magnifying glass. You will find a notch on it somewhere.
