FYI, this guitar, has made it's way to Doomadgee Aboriginal Community in FNQ. Looking at the pattens on the pick guard, it's the same guitar. Must thank Ian and the guys from Artist for their donation and sending it up here for the youth music program
I have to say that all of the products I have purchased from Artist Guitars are very, very, very good. To be able to produce these guitars and other items with fantastic looks, sound, and quality for the prices is just insane. Some of the items are 10 to 30% of the "Brand" ones. Hey Shane, I don't see David Gilmour on the poster wall... I think it needs one!!!!
I have the Grungemaster as well as an Artist LP59 Deluxe. Both great! Note that the Grungemaster PU selector in middle position (Neck and bridge) is wired anti phase so at least there is hum cancelling in that position.
Dude. I've actually been looking at Jazzmasters lately but also wanted something with real P90s. This seems to tick all the boxes, and i'm also taking notice of their nylon acoustics... they're about a 30 min drive from me... think i'm going to pay them a visit!
Great intro mate, I found the artist guitars warehouse years ago when I was in Sydney on business. They had a great little showroom and we're very friendly.
I already own 2 Artist guitars, the LP60 Pro, and the STH. I’ve been sniffing around this GM for a while now, and this vid made my mind up. Not just the great sound and playability (gotta love those P-90s) but I could see in your face how much you bloody loved playing that machine!
i noticed that to, im the same boat i have been uming and arhing about this guitar for a very long time and thats what struck me was how much shane was enjoying this guitar it really did come through
Finally! Shane demos a guitar I actually own. Was pleasantly surprised with this one. Really lush, sturdy. Artist have always treated me well. Good company. NB: yes, re-string it. And it KILLS as a slide guitar if you raise the action a little.
Just bought one of these recently and all I can say is -- how do they do it for the price? It is simply sensational. Plays great, sounds great. Looks amazing. Oh, and I'm a lefty too.
I've had one for a couple of years - think it's probably from one of the first batches they had and it's honestly even better than the current ones. I tried a new one recently and my older one has a lighter coloured neck wood and and even more dramatic shiny gloss finish. Current one was great too but the older one I have is even more awesome. I have 8 guitars (all more expensive than the Grungemaster) and I find myself playing the Grungemaster the most. For some reason it's just really fun to play 👍
Saw this video a couple years ago and wanted one. Finally back in stock after 18 + months. Wife got me one for my birthday. Sharp fret ends in the ONLY thing I found negative so far. Action is the lowest of any budget guitar I've seen while the intonation and nut cut are dead on. Neck feels amazing. I don't want to put it down. And previously, tortoise shell pickguards always turned me off, but this one looks fantastic in person. Amazing guitar for the price, which I don't believe was raised since I started watching. Ordered Saturday, received Wednesday.
Just got to add regarding the finish; it's actually a cool metallic white with gold flecks through it...very subtle but looks great. Agreed, these are GREAT guitars!
The clean tones really surprised me. Quite pleasantly, I must say. I used to associate these style of guitars with having quite bland clean sound. The Grungemaster has character and a very likable tone. Those pickups were a great choice by Artist.
I have seven Artist guitars. The two best are the Blackcherry Seventh Anniversary and the AG 100. The AG 100 is really good in my opinion. This Grungemaster is nice in the middle position, clean tone.
I already have a telecaster hidden behind my Floyd Rose. Normally when I buy something like this, the wife goes on a spending spree and makes me pay for it.
I've had one of these for the past couple of years and confirm Shane's review. I went in to the Artist Guitars showroom to try a pedal. I didn't like the pedal so much, but bought the guitar they gave me to try it out with.
The camera work is incredible! Dont know who the guy with the hair is but hes out of control. Great guitar but ive bot my eye on a LP Gibson. Im finally going to get one. Then theres some Epiphones i want. Ive already got 5 but theres always room for more. Great demo shane you always sound good.
The other day I bought their "budget" strat with the single H pickup at the bridge. AU$99 for an actual nice guitar playable out the box and all it really needed was a quick nut file. I already have their TC59 with coil splitting, and that's about the same quality with better pickups. I got their lap steel and banjo and they're playable but the attention to detail isn't as good as the electrics, and I got a factory 2nd dreadnought for $80 and it's got a high action that I haven't gotten around to fixing because it'd be a bit of fiddling. Kinda want the 335 copy next but it has the same pickups as my tele so maybe I'll just get the grungemaster for the p90s.
P90s seem to be popping up more and more again. As you noted, there are noise gates that do a good job controlling the extra noise (unless you like the vibe that creates LOL), so why not grab some of that great tone? Great to see the Peavey Bandit getting some love again too!! 🤙🏻😎🎸🎼
Love my grungmaster. Have six Artist guitars now. Had a couple of issues but they got resolved straight away. Good guitars-very good for the price-you could end up with a room full if not careful.
Another great review, Shane! This guitar sounds awesome! The only thing I'm not sure about is the Snow White finish with cream knobs, pickups and tortoise shell guard.
These are £129 in UK; extremely good value. A bit rough and ready, but great! Tuners on mine are vintage style unlike Shane's version. Change the strings and oil neck straight away - makes it much better. I'd recommend one of these; they're fun!
Awesome review on such an affordable guitar. That video is proof that different guitars bring out different feelings. You almost deviated from the blues and rock into grunge territory for a little bit then. I thought Kurt Cobain had risen from his grave for a few seconds there. Lol. Loved it. It is definitely a uniquely different sounding guitar in a good way.
The bound neck on that thing is pretty sexy. Sounds good too. I've yet to drop any money on a p-90 guitar. My guitar room is buzzy with single coils so p-90's would be worse, and I don't have a noise gate. Great review.
I've got some Wilkinson P90's in a gold top I have, nice sounding pickups for the price you pay. Visually I've never been a fan of these, but I know Timmy Rogers has been playing JM on the last few tours and albums. If you can get hold them Shane, their Tele with humbuckers look interesting.
Amazing guitar. Fantastically made, beautiful feeling neck, nice and light, awesome machine heads, the beautiful gold speckled/glitter finish, the amazing sounding pickups, playable right out of the box, I think they've changed the machine head style to more of a jazzmaster style since this video. Mine was £139 and it came with a very good quality lead, and very long one as well. update: replaced cream coloured hardware with white, looks way cooler 🔥
I dig it. The pickups seem pretty dark though. Probably not a bad thing since my amp is naturally bright. Love the offset body. Great playing Shane! Hendrix sounds fantastic on that guitar!
I actually bought one of these, order placed about an hour ago, and THEN watched the videos! I don't really play all that much any more, but I do think I'm gonna like this little guy! Only thing I'll do is change over to a pearl white pickguard, and go with white-topped chrome control knobs. Just to have a touch of m'self in the overall appearance. I'm already a fan of P90's.
Just thought the same, I got the JA-60 from Harley Benton, looks to me like they were made in the same factory. Got mine from the Thomann fleamarket for 60 € Had one defective tuner und the fret ends are little bit sharp, apart from that it`s a good playing guitar.
Damn man as soon as they make a red one I’ll be buying one. I’ve loved the Jags ever since I saw Australian Crawl playing them. I’m a lefty also so it’s great seeing a company release so many affordable guitars in a lefty. I’ve just bought their Tele for my very first ever guitar, it’s a little bit overdone for my ideal Tele style so very soon I’ll be buying a Tele body and building up my dream 50’s style Tele.
This looks just like the Harley Benton HB JA-60, except for the color. I just order one of those last week along with the SC450 P90 Goldtop, which are always out of stock.
Shane you may have just convinced me to drop some money on a grungemaster. I recently purchased one of SX 60's vintage style strat because of your review on the sx strat and tele. And I wasn't disappointed. It holds up against my Squier CV 60's in build quality and fit and finish. If it wasn't for the slightly different headstock you could easily mistake it for a Squier CV. Like the grungemaster you just reviewed the first thing I did was change the strings as the ones it shipped with felt lighter than 9's. So put a new set of 10's on it and it's so much nicer to play.
Mine arrived today. First impressions are that it's just about ok, but maybe not as well finished as some of my other budget guitars. Main issue is the sharp fret ends on the Artist - pretty poor. A bit of filing will help. For better neck refinement look to HB and, especially, SX. Also, Squier Affinity are good (at the right price) and some of the roasted Fazleys. Having said that, it certainly looks good and the P90s are excellent. It's been been well put together so I'll be keeping it but it will probably be my last Artist guitar (edit - I actually then went and bought an ST-62 which was much better out of the box, just needed some intonation). Worth noting that the HB version is the same price at the moment although I like the dark finish on the Artist fretboard. If you're looking for something a bit different then, fine, go ahead and buy one. It's still good value for money, just not great.
Hi Shane, It's always the possibilty of high or low frets that scare me away from cheaper guitars. What was the fret levelling like on this model? Cheers, Glenn.
but can it play jazz? I love surf and jazz and the Jazzmaster is known for both! it kinda makes me somewhat angry when people don't roll the tone back on the neck. Great review!
great review man ! :) I was wondering if you've tried out the Artist Guitars LP59 deluxe or any of there LP60 models ? I recently picked one up and it's amazing ! a very good and really high quality affordable Gibson Les Paul copy. I've actually got a full review of it up on my channel, but i'd love to see your thought on it.
I've got an Artist LP59 Deluxe and a Grungemaster. Love 'em both for the $$. The LP is a beast with a full rich tone and sustain. Like the locking tuners and roller bridge. Neck is classic thicker 1950s Gibson and the Bull Bucker pickups are great. I mostly play Blues rock on it. Perfect! The Grungemaster is nice. I did a bit of setup on it and new strings and it sounds a treat. Love those single coil P90s. Can just about get any sound out of it. I use it a bit more than the LP mainly because of weight. It's much lighter being basswood whereas the LP is solid mahog and maple. Both guitars are amazing for the price. In fact I'd put the LP59 up against any Gibson LP!
It’s a great guitar but..... no trem? You gotta have a trem. I looked at buying one and putting a dueseberg tremolo, the sort you mount on an SG. That was too expensive. For that kind of upgrade you may as well go for J Mascis squire.
Hi Shane. Nice vid Shane. How about a review on the Artist Guitars ST-62 Stratocaster. That's a really good value for money Strat guitar. An affordable price to boot. Gary from Tasmania.
Would be good to do a back to back comparison against the Yamaha Revstar 502, which cost almost 3 times as much, noting the 502 is a great guitar - itself feels, plays and sounds like a guitar worth 3 times as much (in my opinion).
I've got both, the 502T definitely feels more premium and sounds great. Definitely better finish, better tuners by a mile, nicer bridge etc. The clean tone of the Yamaha is incredible and blows the Grungemaster away IMHO, but when you crank the dirt there's not much in it. However I can't imagine anyone besides the biggest brand snob would be disappointed with the Grungemaster, it's an outstanding guitar for the money. It blows my mind that we can get this much guitar for $260.
I just got one second hand. I feel a bit miffed. Mine sounds as thick as a credit card. It's not icepicks, but has zero depth and no chime. I put it up against some other guitars I have and this was absolutely the thinnest of the lot, including my MuNteD no name Tele that I've been hacking with (ie 20dollar nonname china eBay pickups). Maybe I got a bad unit? Aside from sounding as thick as a bulimic supermodel, it is really nicely constructed. Just a note , it's about 10% smaller than a genuine jazzmaster and weighs less. I will probably jam some warman pickups in it and be well content.
Is this guitar manufactured in Australia or China? Do you have any Gaskell? I'm from Brazil, I was already an endorser of them here, I wanna know more about Artist ...
Just bought one after this review, would love to know what gauge strings you are using. Bought the red semi acoustic after your review as well. Becoming a habit must be lefty empathy.
A Motörhead shirt to play Nirvana…. Hmmm. Motörhead is my favourite band, I can take or leave Nirvana but I got excited and was waiting for Ace of Spades. I guess the Motörhead shirt will tie in since Dave Grohl said Lemmy was his hero.
Great review , gonna get one of these suckers for the young bloke . They've sold out at the moment so it's a back order but I think he'll dig it . Cheers mate.
I have one of these and you have to remember its a cheap guitar,,, THUS it is finished like a low end guitar. When I got mine the neck pickup wasnt working and the fret ends are all quite sharp. You have to tinker with them to fix the flaws. They are NOT as good as a squier!
Had one delivered this week, being lefty as well offsets aren’t that common so at $260 I couldn’t resist. Plays great, needed a fret polish and some lube on the nut but other than that no dramas once set up to my liking. Sounds amazing dirty!!! A little meh clean though
Hi guys, I hope you like the video. If you're interested in one of these check it out here:

Brilliant. I hope we see some great artists coming through!

They cut out the middle men, wholesalers, distributors, designers, agents etc. it’s from the manufacturer straight to their warehouse.
Love Artist guitarist! We now have a dealer in the states.
I've had one for a couple of years - think it's probably from one of the first batches they had and it's honestly even better than the current ones. When you pulled out the niles wig & did nirvana I almost spit out the bran muffin i was eating !! ha ha ha ... Awesome Shane !!
I think I'll just refer to you whenever new lefty guitars are out......ooooh that offset body is so attractive.....
Their USA site has the Grungemaster with a hard shell case for $199 US shipped free! It's hard to beat that!
Slosh!!!!!! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽😆😆😆😆😆😆
That Grungemaster sounds amazing!!!! The GAS for P90s grows stronger!!!! Great review Shane!!! Cheers!!!🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
I have seven Artist guitars. The two best are the Blackcherry Seventh Anniversary and the AG 100. The AG 100 is really good in my opinion. This Grungemaster is nice in the middle position, clean tone.
Dang, these are 199.00$ US with a hard case, now I have to sneak a new guitar past my wife.
@Terms and Disagreement underatted comment XD
A man of culture lol
I already have a telecaster hidden behind my Floyd Rose. Normally when I buy something like this, the wife goes on a spending spree and makes me pay for it.
Absolutely need one of these. Totally love the tone, the gain, the look and the fact that it could play shoe gaze well. Love it
I've had one of these for the past couple of years and confirm Shane's review. I went in to the Artist Guitars showroom to try a pedal. I didn't like the pedal so much, but bought the guitar they gave me to try it out with.
hey ....in australia right ? - can you tell me where that is? ..ta

Another great review, Shane! This guitar sounds awesome! The only thing I'm not sure about is the Snow White finish with cream knobs, pickups and tortoise shell guard.
Excellent review Shane. When you donned the wig I thought Jeff Lynne had taken over 😂
These are £129 in UK; extremely good value. A bit rough and ready, but great! Tuners on mine are vintage style unlike Shane's version. Change the strings and oil neck straight away - makes it much better. I'd recommend one of these; they're fun!
YES! Finally an affordable lefty offset guitar!!! Hopefully they are available in the United States!
Is it just mainly lefty???
That’s two guitars you’ve convinced me to buy now, dude! I ordered one of these this morning.
Your awesome blues playing is costing me too much money!
Hah, Shane you're the king of the cheap guitars (and I like this poor man's Jazzmaster)! I only wish it had a tremolo.
Finally someone said it. Thank you.
You are correct. The Goldo is the go, only it is about $160.00 almost as much as the guitar itself.
It's a miracle! Shane has hair!
-- Oh, it's only a wig. I am disappoint.
This has nothing to do with this video, but I just bought a peavey bandit 112 because of your high remarks...and it sounded really good in the store
I loved your demo so much I went to their site to purchase one and...........SOLD OUT ! :-( Great content as always Shane ! Cheers !
I'm totally digging everything about this guitar. Great review Shane 👍
Shane, what a hidden surprise with your Nirvana riff.
The bound neck on that thing is pretty sexy. Sounds good too. I've yet to drop any money on a p-90 guitar. My guitar room is buzzy with single coils so p-90's would be worse, and I don't have a noise gate. Great review.
because ya have crappy lights
About 11.40 into the video and up pops Shane's grunge twin brother. Amazing!
I really dig mine, it's a hell of a lot of guitar for the money.
Cool guitar Shane sounds good neat review !
Curious to know, is the body of the Grunge Master the same size as the Jazz Master?
Got to say I'm impressed. It looks cool and I love the grunge/alternative music from the late 80's early 90's. Seems like great value. Nice one.
This looks almost exactly the same as the offset Thomann sells under their Harley Benton brand. Probably from the same factory?
Even the headstock is the same and the "Salami" pickguard.
Yeah I've actually wondered the same thing. I guess it's possible they may even make them in the same factory.
Probably the factory they used to use in China. They used to use Wilkinson pickups when they were made in China, but not in the new Vietnam factory.
Just thought the same, I got the JA-60 from Harley Benton, looks to me like they were made in the same factory. Got mine from the Thomann fleamarket for 60 € Had one defective tuner und the fret ends are little bit sharp, apart from that it`s a good playing guitar.
Yep, both are made by Thomann, identifier other than headstock decal
Damn man as soon as they make a red one I’ll be buying one. I’ve loved the Jags ever since I saw Australian Crawl playing them. I’m a lefty also so it’s great seeing a company release so many affordable guitars in a lefty. I’ve just bought their Tele for my very first ever guitar, it’s a little bit overdone for my ideal Tele style so very soon I’ll be buying a Tele body and building up my dream 50’s style Tele.
Well, that makes me think about the Harley Benton HB-JA 60 with two Roswell P90 Alnico 5. Actually it looks like the same guitar.
6:55 with the... Lay Down Sally. ..sweet
This looks just like the Harley Benton HB JA-60, except for the color. I just order one of those last week along with the SC450 P90 Goldtop, which are always out of stock.
Sweet...head stock is cool ...great tones, good to see your hair is grown back !
I really like it! Looks like a great value :)
SX guitars are crap though.
Getting mine tomorrow!
Killer lead tone in the intro
Hi Shane, It's always the possibilty of high or low frets that scare me away from cheaper guitars. What was the fret levelling like on this model? Cheers, Glenn.
I couldn't hear any fret buzz
Hi Shane great review as always. I wonder how this guitar stacks up against the squire jazzmaster cheers 🍻👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺🍺
Has anyone modded these to remove the hum in the single pickup modes? What did you do? Copper shielding?
but can it play jazz?
I love surf and jazz and the Jazzmaster is known for both! it kinda makes me somewhat angry when people don't roll the tone back on the neck. Great review!
Really good looking guitar ,never owned a guitar with p90s
great review man ! :)
I was wondering if you've tried out the Artist Guitars LP59 deluxe or any of there LP60 models ?
It's much lighter being basswood whereas the LP is solid mahog and maple. Both guitars are amazing for the price. In fact I'd put the LP59 up against any Gibson LP!
Yeah I love the sound of p90s !
Love that rockin in the free world. And. Love your vids 👌
It’s a great guitar but..... no trem? You gotta have a trem. I looked at buying one and putting a dueseberg tremolo, the sort you mount on an SG. That was too expensive. For that kind of upgrade you may as well go for J Mascis squire.
Guitar suits you. These guys should make a Shane Diiorio signature model :)
Suites? How many rooms?
Just got an email from artist guitars, they have a 2 day sale coming soon on these for $179. Might have to snag me one
GREAT stuff!
I own one of these it's actually lovely.
Me too great fun guitar
I wonder if these are the same guitars Firefly makes but different brand?
Is the body of this GM the same size as the JM?
Hi Shane. Nice vid Shane. How about a review on the Artist Guitars ST-62 Stratocaster. That's a really good value for money Strat guitar. An affordable price to boot. Gary from Tasmania.
I’ll see what I can do, Gary. Thanks mate.
Cool demo!! Not my flavor of guitar, but love your playing!
I liked Edgy Shane, looks like a cool guy.
Dang. I’m looking at a Squire Jazzmaster as this and the HB model, have no tremolo. The cost of the shoegazer...
Any chance you can review Cherry 58s?
It's made in China. If it was made in Australia it would probably cost upwards of $1500.00 here. :-)
Thanks for this review. I’m seriously thinking about getting one. Can you suggest a good noise gate please. I have no idea of what to get.
Donner noise gate pedal. Check Shane's review. I bought it right after seeing it.
Joyo Gate of Kahn is the best noise gate I've used, and I've tried many
@@clintonmaher6930 Have you tried the Donner Noise Killer? I don't lose any tone 😀
Now available in the U.S.!
5:16 and here comes grunge mode
nice axe man
The pickups are ceramic and not made by Wilkinson.
I live in the US and i really want one. I wish they had a retailer here
Thomann = Harley Benton = Artist
Just bought one after this review, would love to know what gauge strings you are using. Bought the red semi acoustic after your review as well. Becoming a habit must be lefty empathy.
Ebony fingerboard?...........nice chops Shane! Thanks mate!
A Motörhead shirt to play Nirvana…. Hmmm. Motörhead is my favourite band, I can take or leave Nirvana but I got excited and was waiting for Ace of Spades. I guess the Motörhead shirt will tie in since Dave Grohl said Lemmy was his hero.
sounds great
Now I want one...
Great review , gonna get one of these suckers for the young bloke . They've sold out at the moment so it's a back order but I think he'll dig it .
Cheers mate.
These resemble A little bit like a firebird. Maybe i get two and throw some humbuckers in one.
It looks lightly blue, but on the website it says it's white. Which one is it?
I bought this guitar a year ago because I want to be Mark Knopfler, and there he is right behind you. What a god
