    Artist seems to have a knack of specing their guitars really well. I have their gnosis modern guitar. Very playable, sounds very good, stays in tune, great weight, balance and fret access which makes it a pleasure to play. I find myself grabbing it more than my more expensive guitars.
    It did have a grounding issue out of the box like someone else here, and actually you hear quite a lot of complaints about that. Its quite fixable, but the price does seem to result in some qc misses…
    Great video and sublime playing as always 🎉

    The issue I have with Artist guitars is that they are not stocked anywhere in New Zealand so, it's impossible to actually try one. They're only available on line. Never buy a guitar before trying it, no matter how good someone says the brand is. Each guitar is different. They seem like a good quality budget option, but until they are stocked in New Zealand I will never truly know.

    Hi Leon, I loved the 77 Fender Strat sound comparison. I honestly thought the Artist sounded just as good as the Strat for what... 1/10th of the price? Would you ever use one in a gig yourself? I know other reviewers also rave about Artist guitars although every time I watch them playing with a band they use exclusively Fender Strats and Gibson LP's - not Artist? Would you ever give up your old vintage instruments in favour of on of the Artist guitars? Many thanks for the review, awsome... will subscribe immediately.

  • @hughwilson
    @hughwilson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm really impressed by the Artist guitar reviews I've been seeing. For the price these seem unbeatable... And common sense! Guitars have been overrpriced in Australia. It's crazy!
    This does seem like a great option.
    I mean to my ears, the Strat did sound a bit better in the soundoffs... and in the cleaner tones the Strat is very distinctive.
    But... the Strat is way more. Is the subtle sound improvement worth all the extra bucks?
    Also, for me, using cheaper guitars for certain live gigs is less stressful. Who's going to take a Rickenbacker down to the small pub for a cheap gig?
    So I'm all in favour of these Artist guitars. I had no idea they were Australian, and had no idea they sounded and played as well as they do.
    Thanks for this review!
    Cheers.

Aussie dollar was at parity with USD back then, shipping was cheap..the glory days of ecommerce in Australia are long gone though..thankfully artist have great prices and pretty decent gear, yeah so for locals they are a real option these days. Have to agree that the shipping from overseas is the killer now with everything going up. But once the Aussie dollar turned to shit against the USD, it wasn't worth buying anything from there. Its a little better with the UK as we still have trade agreements. Thankfully theres a few companies in Oz where we can spend some dollar with.

    That comment that the issue is simply “good or not” is on point. The comments here display the same range of good and bad experiences that I have heard about major brands, top end brand products, and even vintage “classics”. A craftsman chooses the tool that works for him, then doesn’t blame that tool for his work. The single most revered electric guitar in the world was once described by it’s first famous owner as a clunky old thing that wasn’t always that easy to play… something that lo one thinks when listening to the music made with it.

  • @Paul_Lenard_Ewing
    @Paul_Lenard_Ewing ปีที่แล้ว

    I have 10 guitars that I bought mostly for about $300 USD. I Korean, Indonesian and Japanese many are re-pros of 50's defunct American makes and others are still your classic figure 8 shape but since they are not copy guitars they did not sell well new and are therefore in spite of quality, fit, finish and classic tone woods. Yes they often need upgrades with PU's to bring them into up to modern standards. My point is they are well made with serious tonewoods that have now aged. Several blew my Fender Custom Shop Strat out of the water. So I sold the Fender. My point is simple no one including other players hears the logo on the headstock so do you want great tone or not??? As for my audience it is an unusual gig when someone does not come up to me and tell me I have a cool guitar.
    Yes I digress from the topic, but I started my collection 10 years ago when there were not such a wide selection of well made budget guitars. My criteria is the same. If the guitar has good bones it usually takes very little more than an hour from a good tech to address any neck issues and just a sinlge quality PU put at the bridge to have a serious instrument. Many items on pricey guitars are literally luxury. Even the tuners. I have one guitar that has budget strip tuners. Yes they are very stiff and take a few seconds longer to tune but that stiffness is literally them binding causing friction. The result is the damn things weld the string into the position you left it. I find they NEVER slip and nearly never need even a tweak to put a string back in tune all night. On the other hand I have also a Fender and a Gibson that are easy to tune but can slip out of tune every few tunes.

    If you're a collector, investor or after the guitar snob bagging rights these Artist /Harley Benton guitar's are never going to compete. On the other hand if you're a beginner to intermediate or semi pro player who's not into the BS guitar hype & needs a very reasonably priced guitar that sounds & plays just as good (if not better in some cases) then the Artist & Harley Benton's are the way to go.

    It is hard to understand what others go through in different countries. I've talked to different players over the years about what it's like where they're from to get gear and they've described what was hard to get. You just have to do what you can I guess. We are pretty spoiled here in the States. Lots of stuff is just a click away. I built my whole studio up these last couple years and never went to an actual store to get gear.

      Which also transcribes into the changes in music stores. They just aren't doing the same business anymore and lots are closing. The one store I do go to locally for guitar work has a bunch of boutique and higher end production amps and guitars no one is buying.

      @@LeonTodd Thanks! (and thanks for not taking comment facetiously :), I'm pretty new to modding).
      Artist don't seem to make many small radius necks, so this guitar at 9.5" looks interesting.
      Also, I'm one of those sensitive idiots who doesn't like a knob near my picking hand, (I've managed to reduced Strats to two knobs), but it looks like a Strat-style jackplate could be installed which would allow the knobs to be moved down so one knob occupies the place of the existing jack.
