I was in Da Nang in October. Stayed at the Da Nang Hyatt (loved it but had to take a taxi up to the city). We were up by the Madam Lan restaurant one evening and wanted to cross that north-south avenue nearby. Remember, we are Americans who were quite intimidated by how pedestrians are supposed to cross the street. As we stood at the curb, about to chicken out, this complete stranger walked up to us, stepped into the street, motioned to us to follow him, and proceeded to get us across the street. As we reached the opposite curb, I turned to thank him but he was back where we started. I hope my wave conveyed gratitude.

100% agree with everything you said. Love Da Nang. Very interesting place to live. Every day is different and people so friendly, polar opposite of US. Cheers John much appreciated. I'm a big fan of NZ, played Rugby my whole life so supporting the All Blacks for 20 years since USA isn't any good yet haha. I'll see you when you arrive buddy
If you're looking for SE Asia without the heat and humidity, go to Dalat Vietnam. 1500m up in the mountains. No beach though, and don't go June, July, August as rains a lot - a lot.
There's not much there though apart from the mountains and a lake but it is a beautiful place. It's also hard to beat the Vietnamese for friendliness which is the number one pro IMO.
That was surprisingly good. Well done. Have been in Da Nang one year. The biggest con for me (American, like you) is the visa issue. Must leave country every three months, which is an expensive trip and a hassle. Either bus to Laos or fly to Thailand, or back to U.S. Also, you underestimate the cost of flights, especially if traveling with luggage, and there is no direct flight to Cambodia that I know of. However, there are to Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. $200 for a studio is rock bottom but certainly $250-$300 typically works. And the quality of lodging and size of rooms or apartments in Vietnam sets it apart from other Asian (or even European) countries. And I'm sure Vietnam is cheaper than Nigeria. Other than the visa issue I live on $600 a month, and that even throws in bicycle maintenance, toiletries and pharma, and an occasional odd expense. And I have a dentist who does crowns for (get this) $100!
I had a crown done in Saigon at Kangnam clinic, which was Korean owned. It was fantastic crown for $250. My American dentist wanted 2K. Blue Cross Blue Shield paid only 40%, the balance was to be out of my pocked. I came in the clinic at 11AM, had the cleaning, exam and measurement done in an hour. Came back next day for the installation, which took another hour. Kangnam even provided 15-year warranty in writing. I have never heard of any warranty provided by American dentists in my life.
I am currently in Ho Chi Minh City. Military retired, from Cleveland, Ohio. I want to check out Da Nang next as the place to live. I was wondering how do the Visa thing. My current visa is valid until 9/03/2025, multiple entries. It took over 2 weeks to get my visa. My first trip here. I do enjoy it here, the food, low cost of living, people, massages, and can live nicely on my pension. I never been to Thailand or the other Asia countries so I can always spend a week or two then return to Vietnam. Still exploring this.
The thing about Da Nang I'll never forget, on Sundays everyone goes to the beach. They all stand out in the water designated by the bouys. No one dares step out of the bouy area. They're all locked in tightly together. No? It's weird. Here is the other thing...we went out to a restaurant and the people (I assume locals) absolutely trash in around the table. Like pigs in a trough. Yeah, it's cheap. I live in Phuket which is significantly more expensive but...worth it.
Thanks for sharing. You’re going to have cons anywhere you go. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. 🙏 I’m in California right now. Our biggest con is wildfires. The past 3 days we have lost close to 6,000 structures due to wildfires. And it’s beyond expensive to live here. I’d take Vietnam any day.

You've been a bit unlucky. Usually it's sunny every day but this time of year is prone to low tropical pressure. Next sunny day is forecast for Monday. I hope you're still here to enjoy that.
I'm on site now. I love it here, especially in the My An area where I live. Another nice place in the country is Nha Trang. It's similar on a smaller scale. I spend at least half of the year in Vietnam, and I'm still trying to learn the language.
I agree Nha Trang is a nice place to visit. Language is rough you just gotta keep grinding, if you can get confident enough with basic conversation then things start to open up from there.
I spent nearly two weeks in Vietnam last March. It was the trip of a lifetime. My guides were excellent as was the food. Very friendly and welcoming people. I may move someday. Good video. Thanks.
I live in Japan. The number one con is language. Just as you said, getting to a deeper level with locals is difficult & taking care of certain things like banking & having a discussion to understand things with a doctor or dentist is tough. Before Japan, I lived in Guam. I remember being freaked out by the geckos on the walls. After a while, I started to see them as pets. I now yearn to return to the tropical culture that really bothered me when I lived there. I hope to return to that kind of lifestyle but in a much cheaper place like SE Asia.
Had a gecko in the library this morning. They're really difficult to get out of the house but I managed it this morning. They're harmless enough but they crap every where.

Good Job! Spot on with the "speak like a 5year old," that is me to a "T." I can only take the conversation so far and then the drop off...keep going...do not give up..Coming in February. Aloha, Rene'
Travis, Very up front and honest review. Keep studying the language. Does Vietnamese have male and female forms of speech. I Lived in Japan for about five years. Found out quickly when speaking that the locals knew who taught you the lingo. Was told by the guys, "You speak like a girl," still had a great time and learned so much traveling. Enjoying your content.
Good question but not exactly. Just the pronouns change depending on your age relation to someone else. Lots of accents and local words. For example, anyone I speak to would know I learned Vietnamese in Hanoi immediately.
G'day Travis and Loan, Another great informative video you are just hitting it out of the ball park. For me more pro's than con's just let's hopes Da Nang doesn't get flooded by tourist. Hope Loan and you are doing well. Cheers Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍
Visited Da Nang this past February. Your points are spot on! I loved that city. I don't think I'll ever live there but regular visits sound great. Keep up the good work.

Great video! 👍🏼 I've been here now for 2 months but biggest con is the amount of foreingers. That ehat made me think to move on. But your pros are absolutely right, its just a great city.
Just went to Danang a few months ago. I'm ready to live there! Finding work is the challenge... By the way stop skipping leg day!! But if you want to get in touch I need some more contacts in VN
Da Nang is a pretty nice place, especially as a getaway from the air pollution in neighboring countries. The best weather months are Mar and April imho. It really starts to get hot in May.
I'd say mid-January to early April, although you deal with Tet holiday in late Jan/early Feb. The last two years in SE Asia the absolute hottest weather has been in late April. 100-105 Fahrenheit or about 40 C for a two-week stretch in both 2023 and 2024.
Da Nang is a nice clean city with good local restaurants, stay away from the tourist eateries..overpriced. Me and my Vietnamese wife travel to Vietnam every year and Da Nang is a fav. If you're adventurous, rent a motorbike and ride up to Hai Van Pass. We ride from there to Hue, beautiful scenery but be careful. Another good trip is from Da Nang to Hoi An, a short ride.
Another pro is most places accept digital wallet and credit card payments (unlike Thailand and the Philippines) so it's easy to pay without needing a carry a lot of cash around. A big con for me is everyone on their speakerphones in public. You mentioned it's noisy, but it's so difficult to find any peace and quiet there, especially with nobody using earbuds. Another con is the chaotic traffic and everyone beeping their horns all the time.
great video... from an Aussie who loves danang and lived there since 2012 and VN since 2003... I don't really want the secret of Danang and VN being spread around thought :).. like you I love the Chaos !

Awesome video, thank you Travis! I'm coming to visit Da Nang towards the end of January. I'm from California, but planning to retire in SE Asia, in approx 1 year. Da Nang is one of two places at the top of my list for a possible retirement destination (the other place is Hua Hin, Thailand).
Well done! Another perspective, the infrastructure is phenomenal and much cleaner compared to Indonesia / Bali and many cities in Thailand, Malaysia, etc. :)
A very accurate and balanced video. Only thing I don't agree with is the great roads. Maybe they're better in Danang but I live in an affluent neighbourhood in HCMC and the roads are atrocious. The road to work is about 7 years and you almost need an off road vehicle.
I've looked at the condo rental Facebook page aswell as a couple of rental websites and I don't see rentals for less than about 17mill dong per month. I came to Thailand after watching many videos talking up cheap rentals. Once I got here the reality was very different
There's a ton of options for places from 5 mil and everything in betwenn. I pay 12 mil for a 3 bedroom house. If you ever want to check it out I can help you

Awesome, I'd love to hear how you compare the two
Vietnam in particular da Nang is much much better than the Philippines.
Backpacked around Vietnam 20 years ago and visited Da Nang for a few days. I remember huuuge waves in the sea.
6:01 that was a solid digging move. One of the more solid I’ve. That might be up there with greatest on camera dig on TH-cam
Quality video Travy. My favourite travel video to date.
Informative and always appreciate your content - Thanks Travis!
Thanks for the message Kim appreciate you watching 👍
We spent 3 weeks in the north visiting Sa Pa...one of our best trips ever
I love Northern Vietnam
I am happy i found this Chanel my visa got accepted super eassy 90 days in Vietnam
Awesome man. Check out the travel group if you need any help planning the trip or want to meet up while you're here. www.skool.com/travel-vietnam/about
Awesome video sir! Thanks so much, from Miami, FL.
Cheers. They say DN is like the Miami of Asia. I've never been to Miami so I can't tell
Well done. We've been here 10 days now and liking it. Could use a bit more sun though.
You've been a bit unlucky. Usually it's sunny every day but this time of year is prone to low tropical pressure. Next sunny day is forecast for Monday. I hope you're still here to enjoy that.
Thanks for the awesome videos! I feel like I'm learning so much from you
Thank you very much I appreciate that
I'm on site now.
This is the content we need: honest and real. What we see is what we find there once the plane lands.
Thanks I appreciate the message
@ welcome!
Interesting video! And I’m very impressed with your Vietnamese! Keep up the good content!
Thanks very much for the message I appreciate it!
Been Vietnam 3x now and counting great country to visit !
I spent nearly two weeks in Vietnam last March. It was the trip of a lifetime. My guides were excellent as was the food. Very friendly and welcoming people. I may move someday.
Good video. Thanks.
Where did you get guides ?
Google translate?
Hey, brother. I just got my first 90 day visa. Woohoo. I'm arriving on the 8th of January. Cheers a bunch for all your vids. Ya, I'll do a hotel for a week and do a walk around to find a place ... I'll already be working on the 9th.
Hi im from n.z. artive 16 jan
CLAZER+ WHAT JOB ARE YOU GOING TO DO THERE
😮 from jan - Mar. this times best in year of Vietnam
@@LEELUNK-IS-A-HUNK I work remotely, eh.
Cheers man, let me know if you need help finding a hotel. I've also got a travel group for meet ups and recommendations. www.skool.com/travel-vietnam/about
Good Job! Spot on with the "speak like a 5year old," that is me to a "T." I can only take the conversation so far and then the drop off...keep going...do not give up..Coming in February.
Aloha,
Rene'
Travis, Very up front and honest review. Keep studying the language. Does Vietnamese have male and female forms of speech. I Lived in Japan for about five years. Found out quickly when speaking that the locals knew who taught you the lingo. Was told by the guys, "You speak like a girl," still had a great time and learned so much traveling. Enjoying your content.
Good question but not exactly. Just the pronouns change depending on your age relation to someone else. Lots of accents and local words. For example, anyone I speak to would know I learned Vietnamese in Hanoi immediately.
G'day Travis and Loan,
Another great informative video you are just hitting it out of the ball park.
For me more pro's than con's just let's hopes Da Nang doesn't get flooded by tourist.
Hope Loan and you are doing well.
Cheers
Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍
Visited Da Nang this past February. Your points are spot on! I loved that city. I don't think I'll ever live there but regular visits sound great. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man, I'm glad you liked the video and appreciate the feedback.
Great video. Love all your stuff
Cheers man appreciate that
What a great video ! I'm sold!!
We will be there in 5 days, cant wait! Hope the weather is good to us!
Hope the weather cooperates! It's been pretty wet here lately.
Great piece Travis, hope you continue to be well. Going on my third month here in Da Nang. Starting to acquire friends.
Awesome Terry, how long will you stay for?
Great summary! I agree with everything you said about VN. If I could I would live in Da Nang.
Nice Video .. I plan on visiting Vietnam soon
Really great presentation on the cost of living difference between US and where you are in Vietnam. It made a great impression on me.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Im from Australia and am planning to come live in da nang next year! Been travelling for years and can’t wait would be great to catch up for a beer and hear your stories
Sounds awesome Caleb. I've got a travel group, we do meetups and chat over beers. Love to have you join when you get closer to moving. www.skool.com/travel-vietnam/about
Get ready to go border runs every 3 months
Great video! 👍🏼
I've been here now for 2 months but biggest con is the amount of foreingers. That ehat made me think to move on.
But your pros are absolutely right, its just a great city.
Just went to Danang a few months ago. I'm ready to live there! Finding work is the challenge... By the way stop skipping leg day!! But if you want to get in touch I need some more contacts in VN
Well made and informative video good work!
I was in Da Nang for two weeks and it was awesome! I should have never left.
Wow, what a fantastic and very humble presentation!
Great work, friend!
❤❤ from Canada!
Thanks man, glad you liked the video!
Love the video. Pls try Nha Trang next :D
I live between the two Runways at the Air base in DaNang 👍 1970 71
@@fireside007 Thank you for your service. All the best.
@ YOU ~ ROCK ! ! 🤛
Brilliant information, top video as usual, thanks, Travis 👌
Cheers buddy I appreciate that
Da Nang is a pretty nice place, especially as a getaway from the air pollution in neighboring countries.
Love vietnam thanks travis there people are so Friendly an proud annim a Welsh man
Impressed that you are learning the language. Not bad looking either.
Bro, your vietnamese is awsome!
Thanks man I appreciate it. Still a lot of room for improvement
Very accurate description of Vietnam.
good insight. it'd be interesting to see a living in Thailand vs. Vietnam video
great video... from an Aussie who loves danang and lived there since 2012 and VN since 2003... I don't really want the secret of Danang and VN being spread around thought :).. like you I love the Chaos !
Man I really like your videos , hope to run in to you in Da Nang when I get there in March
I appreciate it man send me a message when you're close to arrive. And check out the travel group we do some meet ups every month www.skool.com/travel-vietnam/about
good video. i'm thinking about doing something long term in Da Nang and your videos have been enjoyable to watch
Really appreciate that
Hi bro, good honest review 👍. I m second time here in worst season after first heat humid experience 😅🤣 4 yrs ago... will be glad to meet you in DN. 👏👏👏 for learning language
Cheers for the comment. If you're in DN check out the travel group. We do some meet-ups and lots of great information. www.skool.com/travel-vietnam/about
Beaches in Vietnam all look nice overall. Not sure on living there but I hope to visit some day.
Big Time Bentley is American and teaching English in Sai Gon, he stays there about seven years.
He just rent an a[artment in Sai Gon it cost about three hundred dollars a month there.
Struggled with the weather there, found there was only a few months of moderate, nice weather a year .. Summer is brutal as is rainy season.
Nigeria got thrown under the bus for no reason lol
lmao
Ya that's my bad. Had to pick somewhere. No hate on Nigeria
@@TravisTravelsVN just for fun I googled “cheapest country in the world” and Vietnam came up first on all the different sites
It was a recent top tip for living costs (Nigeria) in some survey I heard
@@ElectroBlender Every site said Vietnam was the cheapest country in the world. Don’t know wtf you talkin about
Awesome video, thank you Travis! I'm coming to visit Da Nang towards the end of January. I'm from California, but planning to retire in SE Asia, in approx 1 year. Da Nang is one of two places at the top of my list for a possible retirement destination (the other place is Hua Hin, Thailand).
I've heard good things about Hua Hin too, good luck with your decision!
Good information for "" Travelers"" Not for retirement.. People who want to live there.
He says it’s sunny.. no sun.
He says the people are friendly and smiling .. not smiling and then gets up and leaves.
Well done! Another perspective, the infrastructure is phenomenal and much cleaner compared to Indonesia / Bali and many cities in Thailand, Malaysia, etc. :)
This was a good video. I was in Danang for a few days.
great video mate and your vietnamese is really impressive
Appreciate it buddy
that shoreline is Perfect ❤❤❤
Btw, This is a great video.. very well done 👍
Thanks buddy I appreciate the message
Excellent video ~ thank you. If I were young again like you I'd give it a try ~~
A very accurate and balanced video. Only thing I don't agree with is the great roads. Maybe they're better in Danang but I live in an affluent neighbourhood in HCMC and the roads are atrocious. The road to work is about 7 years and you almost need an off road vehicle.
Fair point. But yes the roads in Da Nang are generally very good
I've looked at the condo rental Facebook page aswell as a couple of rental websites and I don't see rentals for less than about 17mill dong per month. I came to Thailand after watching many videos talking up cheap rentals. Once I got here the reality was very different
There's a ton of options for places from 5 mil and everything in betwenn. I pay 12 mil for a 3 bedroom house. If you ever want to check it out I can help you
Peaches & Cream or Biscuits and Gravy lol Rainy Season is around May/June - Nov/Dec... the worst is Sept/Oct..
