    The Tiguan is a "compact SUV" and is not intended to be a large family vehicle for the typical US driver, it's more European focused. Not everything needs to be the size of a boat.

    • @peterf1
      @peterf1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Exactly, the Tiguan is nearly in a class of its own, even though it looks like its competitors. with much better driving dynamics it is the VW of SUV's. Which either you "get" or you don't. Also, while this is a good review, the "major flaw" of cargo space can be helped by sliding the back seat forward, which the reviewer missed.

    • @Revealthereal_
      @Revealthereal_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well Volkswagen disagrees since the new Tiguan is a 3rd row seater and very spacious.

    • @tudvalstone
      @tudvalstone 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Revealthereal_ And it's pretty terrible for people who don't need the extra 'foot or so of metal sheet'. The old size is still available in Europe and it's a better car for most needs.

    • @genogrinberg6014
      @genogrinberg6014 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Revealthereal_ new tiguan is trash, drives slow, sluggish, not VW at all, I'm sure the fattasses in america will love it because they are rarely concerned with drive quality, just if there is enough room to stretch out their inflated, oversized limbs, and plenty of cupholders for all the mcdonalds shakes.
      Some of us, STILL prefer a car that is geared towards the DRIVER. That's why I have a 2016 WV Tiguan SEL and it's an amazing car. I've been behind the wheel of the 2019 tiguan and I wouldnt TRADE my 2016 for it if I could. Drives like SHIT

      Geno Grinberg well Geno I don’t disagree with most of what you said here but I bought a 2019 Tiguan in April and I’m very happy with it. I’m a slim young guy who has arthritis in my spine and I came out of a little Mazda 3 that hurt my get getting into and out of it. I decided to give VW a try and needed something with a taller ground clearance to help avoid back pain. I didn’t know much at all about the previous Tiguan that you have and enjoy. Now that I own a new one and enjoy it I did lots of research and wish I had owned that generation of Tiguan before when it was on sale. I didn’t understand the Tiguan admittedly and just never thought to give it a chance. But the new one was setting there when I arrived at the dealer to drive an Atlas. I didn’t need anything that large, in fact I don’t need all the cargo capacity of my 2019 Tiguan. But I have to admit when the salesman unlocked a Tiguan and I sat in it the seats felt great and then I drove it and it felt refined and solid. I noticed it wasn’t fast off the line but once it’s going I felt it was responsive enough for my needs. And for their price of $24k out the door down from $28,910 I felt it was a good value especially with their longer 6 year / 72k warranty which is now gone for 2020. I couldn’t go wrong; however if it becomes unreliable I will sell it quick. But so far I’m happy. I know it’s been watered down and it’s bloated and created for fat Americans but this fit American is happy with it Over all. I’m glad you love yours and I’d love to drive that generation of Tiguan because I do care a lot about the driving experience. Maybe my next vehicle will be a BMW or Porsche SUV - but until then I need to get my moneys worth from this 2019. And I love all the cup holders for my Water & Propel drinks lol. I’m only 5’ 7” too! Hahahah take care man

    I own a 2014 Tiguan Highline(SEL) R-Line 4Motion. I freaking love it. And to all you shoppers out there, you DO NOT need premium fuel. If you want 100% of the engines possible power, put premium in. But if you just want to drive it like everyone else, just put regular in. The knock sensors and O2 sensors will recognize 87 octane and then alter the timing of the engine so it doesn't ping(pre-detonate due to lower grade of fuel). You won't harm the engine at all, VW just recommends it for maximum hp.

    • @teseglet
      @teseglet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not true. This engine is prone to carbon build-up. Long term 87 octane will do damage. 91-93 octane not only ignites better, but premium fuel typically has more detergent additives to control carbon buildup.

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@teseglet I posted this comment 7 years ago. Still own it to this day and has 250,000miles on it. Not one issue with carbon buildup. At around 160,000, the intake manifold runner flap went bad which required a new manifold. The vw shop I use for service and repairs pre authorized a carbon cleaning when the manifold was off but took it off the final bill when they didn’t do it because it wasn’t needed. I drive 90% highway for about an hour at a time each time it’s driven multiple times a day.

    • @isanchez9839
      @isanchez9839 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonfriesen5389 terrible advice man. There’s a difference between required and recommended, in this case premium is REQUIRED. Also the fact you drive 90% highway helps your case because higher speed burns off more carbon deposit. Someone who owns a Tiguan and only drives it on short trips/city driving will definitely experience the carbon build up. Please don’t spread this misinformation around which can cause people problems with their vehicles

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@isanchez9839 Still own the Tiguan, and that comment was 8 years ago. Have had no issues with it. Sure its a good idea to use premium, but meh, my car has 210,000 miles on it now and it's been solid. VW tech who takes care of it says the only thing I may run into is excess carbon buildup, but mine wasn't out of the ordinary when the intake manifold got replaced last year.

    Thankfully, the Tiguan is going to be all new for 2015 or 2016. Much more competitive with the Rav4, CR-V, and Rogue. It's going to be an awesome CUV. As all VW's, it will be the best driver, most handsome, and will be made with material's that make a 7-series blush.

    The small amount of cargo space isn't much of a con for me, but the premium fuel requirement is. Other than that I really like it. A German made VW is a bit of a rarity in the US (mostly made in Mexico or here).

    • @djayt1215
      @djayt1215 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its not required, just recommended. all cars must be able to run on regular unleaded safely. however i don't think it will matter much, you'll get better fuel economy out of the premium so price wont be much different.

      @sergevivier956 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Or the new GTi engine 220hp and 258torque. Sure hope they keep building it in Germany for the USA market. They ruined the VW American Passat. The quality is no where near the German version. I own this car with up graded suspension and aero side boards and at 45 k mi has had no problems and is one great ride.. but, the engine needs to really be driven for it to perform ie: lead foot. Chirps tires in tiptronic although the turbo spools at 3200rpm so from 0 -60 takes forever but 60 -100+ it boogies.. think Macan or Audi because it essentially is the same platform but at vw trim level. It has ok handing despite top heavy, braking is poor and it has blind spots but overall a bargain used because depreciation Kills..Too bad vw wised up and destroyed this car with subsequent redesign.!

      The Gypsay My point is that you Euro fans don't have a point mentioning Toyota, Ford, Honda, GM etc recalls. :) European cars have the worst reliability records (VW would be the leading brand. That's why they cheat on their smog tests because that is the only way they can sell cars),. they are expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, expensive to repair and they depreciate more and faster than any other brand -including Hyundai.
      So you Euro fans should suck it and stop bad mouthing better cars on the market and if you can, you should force your favorite brands to make better cars ... which will not happen anyway.

      So, you are a Euro fan.
      “And honestly, how ironic is your comment, "euro fans should stop bashing other cars" while your main comment was simply an idiot remark bad mouthing WV”
      Fucking idiot, my initial remark is a realistic reaction to those Euro fan such as yourself. Moreover, you came up with this ingenious response even after I explained this to you. You don’t even have the right to call anyone idiot with such come up.

    • @turboshottho
      @turboshottho 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I hate how people think german cars are money pits. Listen. If you take car of them, they take care of you. The reason they are stereotyped as money pits is because A. The owners don't follow the maintenance schedules because they think their expensive car can do things other cars can't, and B. They take the car to the dealership when they screw it up because they didn't do maintenance. Instead of going to the dealership go to a certified shop. Stop being naive. And spend your money wisely, and do your own maintenance and it will be about as cheap to maintain as a Subaru, Honda, or Ford.
      My 2012 A5 has been perfect. 0 issues, 23,000 miles. Runs perfect. And I'm gonna be honest. I did neglect to change the oil for a few thousand miles. But hey, that's the beauty of synthetic oils.

Driven into a creek, had 3 minor accidents, 1 major accident, hit a 2.5 foot high gravel pile at 35mph and some other minor things).
      My sister doesn't take care of cars but I took it in for a check up at 300,000 miles and he asked if we clocked the mileage up by 200,000 because it was in such good shape(engine and interior). All four pistons are putting out exactly the same compression(very high for its age) and there is no issues that may come up. If you don't take care of dubs, they'll still take care of you!
