    Wow, we haven't had snow like this in Maine in years. As much as a pain it would be, I'd love to have a good snow storm.

      One thing I'll say about storms like that, it is very peaceful. Very little if any traffic on the roads and that's all you can hear is the wind, and everything looks so clen and bright. 😀

    If you run the heat on the floor when plowing when the snow hits windshield it won't stick like it does with defrost going

      Wow, that's some neat information, thanks. The snow we got was because Lake Erie didn't really freeze much. I would think that your area would get the same type of situations as we do, I guess not, whice is a good thing - it's fun till it's not. :)
      We got hit twice at the end of 2022 with similar levels of snow, then the last one before that was in 2014. Usually its around every 8 years or so that we'll see this level of snow.
      Peace bud

      @marksplace ya we get lots of lake effect off lake Ontario but I live close to the lake so we get lots of wet heavy snow events that makes it hard on equipment and the boys

    Someone thought it would be a good idea to park the plow truck facing away from the road! First rule for snow removal is, keep your footing clear!

    Yinz need a Lucknow three point snow blower, love my 7 ft, added hydro to the turn and tip end. Here in butler pa have not used it in a few years. When you need it you need it. Tosses the snow 50 ft +

      I've been wanting to get one, I just can't get past the price of them. Although it would be a good buy, something I most likely wouldn't regret.
      It's the same way here, sometimes you get two storms in a single season. Whereas sometimes you won't see one for years.

    I live out west now but was born and raised on the Great Lakes. When I hear people say Lake effect snow that's only a bit my cure for them is to give them a shovel and tell them not to stop shoveling until the storms over. Better make sur4 they have medical staff to keep track of their vitals. Should cure them of saying something when they don't know what the hall they are talking about,

      I take it you've never plowed a few feet of snow from an ice covered driveway before? As far as the guy who tried pulling him out. He was a random guy plowing the house across the street.

      Well@@marksplace let me set that record straight. I am 60 yrs old. I was born in Buffalo. Lived in and around he suburbs my entire life and still do. I Have Been Pushing, Stacking, Loading and Hauling Snow for a good 45 of those years. Between my personal life and helping at work along with having a small Snow removal business for a few years. I have used everything from a Hickory High Lift and ATV's thru a JD 544G Loader . Loading it & Hauling it away with dump trucks. I am just Guessing here but I think I may have run into a few feet of snow on a ice covered lot or road a time or three.

    All that yard in front and you plow the snow next to the house? Are you using snow to insulate??😂 The more you have to thaw and refreeze under the foundation the worse it gets! 😂😂😂

      It's not by the house as it would appear in the video. Their was originally a 20x20 garage up when I decided to tear it down and put up a pole barn and as of yet I haven't widened it. Basically, from the driveway to the house is all grass and dirt maybe 15' wide. Up against the house is where my utility trailer is that unfortunately is currently buried behind a big pile of snow. lol I guess I should have said all of that in the video as it does appear as if I'm just piling snow up against my house.. The worst part is, it was happening while I would go out where you couldn't even see a few feet in front of you just to stay on top of the situation. By the time I realized how big the pile was it was to late. At the time during the storm that's all I really cared about was making a path from the house to the road and not getting stuck. And now it's switching over to rain this week so by next week most of the snow will be gone anyways. :)

      The driveway was a sheet of ice underneath the snow. At times it was difficult to even walk on.

    I have drove types of trucks car equip .,. moved dirt stone and snow.. But why is he pushing all that snow up to the house.. From the 1st snow fall you should back back blade and the back in and push it out to the front yard.. That is a snow dumping dream to have that much yard.. the thaw will suck I am sure.. Just saying..

    • @marksplace
      @marksplace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The video doesn't do any justice at all as to the extent of the amount of snow that was on the ground at that time. The ground wasn't even frozen yet (it still isn't) So getting to close to either side of the driveway could and would cause a tire to end up burred, now you're stuck. In order to get back into the driveway to back-drag you better make sure that the driveway is cleared off otherwise your stuck. Hence the reason why I moved some off to the side and then went for it and didn't mess around coming back in. You have to remember that the streets weren't that great as well and you could easily get stuck in the middle of the road if you're not careful enough.
      Even though my truck is a 2500HD and could easily handle a much larger plow. The plow that I chose is for a half-ton truck. For my driveway it is a perfect combination of not really putting much stress (weight-wise, while driving to and from work) on the truck and getting the job done. The only drawback, as you should know seeing's that you "moved dirt stone and snow" is that it's a Western Plow that weights almost nothing and doesn't have any downward pressure. I do use it to back-drag, but unfortunately it doesn't move much due to it being so light -- It just floats over the top.
      With that amount of snow I will never drive on an area that hasn't been plowed yet. So even If I would have back-dragged at that time I would have had to back over the snow that I back-dragged - there's no way that would happen -- It would have been a guarantee that I would have gotten stuck. If you watched the very end of the video I put up some security footage up of that next night when the last storm came through with another foot and half in snow.
      At times like that It's all about making a path to get out and keeping yourself from getting stuck.
      I do appreciate your reply though and thanks for watching. Have a nice day my friend!

    80 inches a pickup would no be visable.

    • @marksplace
      @marksplace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The storm went on for over a five day span. What you're seeing is me plowing the snow that we got over the previous night (I went to bed having it plowed and woke up to another 18 inches or so) The driveway was probably plowed a dozen times before then. Also, the camera doesn't do it any justice at all. The worst part was, the driveway became a sheet of ice and the ground (or lawn) wasn't frozen yet making it difficult to push the snow onto the lawn in fear of getting stuck. I ended up getting stuck twice during the storm (little red to the rescue) 😅 🤣

      I plan on getting a rear one for my tractor (not exactly that checp though) Once I got the plow I can't ever see using a walk behind snowblower ever again. What was a minimum of 45 minutes has turned into few minutes while sitting a warm truck. 😄

    What a hassle using a simple plow when
    a) it is so deep you cannot push it to one side ... get an adjustable vee
    b) there is no place left to push it ... get a blower.

      @puntacanaman1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep. Angle plows are great to a point, then something has to give. Gotta move it away with a pusher or hope for a thaw. LOL.

    • @marksplace
      @marksplace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's my personal plow for doing just my own driveway. I might help someone out occasionally but for the most part I only plow my driveway. I used a walk behind snowblower for years and don't want to ever go back to using one.
      99% of the time the plow is just fine. Usually only takes a minute or two and I'm done, compared to 45 minutes plus with a snowblower. We do have the occasional (as shown in the video) where I'll have to clean up a bit with the tractor when the storm calms down, it is what it is. I do plan on making a blower that would attach to the front of the tractor arms (or get one for the back) for occasions like we've just witnessed.
      The video shows me going to my neighbors house after the guy who was plowing their driveway got stuck.
      Thanks for watching 😄

      Got stuck or broke down or both?

    • @iverburl
      @iverburl 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @2olvets443 I have wrestled with both. I regularly have to clear 4+ foot drifts from a 200 yard driveway. We have been drifted in so bad that a single blade on a F250 could not get us out.
      And I used to drive a Miata all winter.

      @@iverburl I ask because the truck was pulled out enough to where it could move on its own but still called a tow truck.
      Years ago I plowed with a 79 Bronco, a 78 Blazer and a 85 Nissan King cab. The King cab was great 12” and under. The Bronco and Blazer did great up to about 26-28 inches. I would always be out during the storms with the king cab to not let it get ahead of me. For final clean up on my commercial accounts theBronco and Blazer would be used. The short wheelbase was a plus also for driveways.

    If 80 inches of snow fell you wouldnt be able to see the windows on the first story of a house. Stop lying. No more than 4 feet came down

      You do realize that snow compacts as it piles up. On top of that the ground wasn't frozen so the latent heat from the ground further compacted the snow. Those factors aren't involved in snow totals. Yes the snowfall was that much.
