The reason Buick has lost the distinction of being a "premium" brand is because all of the mainstream brands have caught up to and surpassed Buick in many ways. More power, better fuel mileage, classier interiors, more features, better reliability and a lower price tag. Styling is subjective but there are a lot of good choices. The last generation Regal/TourX failed because the price to value ratio was below the mainstream offerings.

Crossovers, SUV"S and Trucks are the hot sellers right now. That's not changing anytime soon. Passenger cars (sedans) are becoming extinct. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t just cancelled Buick yet. I understand it sells well in China, but most of the vehicles coming from the brand are being built in China and if it sells so well in China then the brand should just be exclusive to the Chinese market. GM would have been better off canceling Buick a long time ago and keeping Pontiac as the dedicated sport brand. In today’s market Pontiac could have had hybrid electric sports cars/SUVs to compete with premium sport brands. Buick by comparison is a stale leftover brand with meh cars that only sell well in other markets. The same could be said for GMC as for years they have just been minimally rebadged versions of Chevy products that people unbelievably pay thousands more for and that trend still continues today.

GM will never get rid of GMC. You'd have to look at it from a business standpoint, they sell rebadged Chevys at a higher margin for more profit. The brand is a cash cow, easy money. Buick on the other hand seems to have cost GM millions of dollars just in advertising trying to change consumer's negative stigma of the brand, and it still hasn't been fully successful even after 12 years since Pontiac was shuttered, whereas I think Pontiac would have been much easier and cheaper, likely even more profitable, for GM to keep around for U.S. sales. I agree with you there.

@@normt430 I’m not saying the the cars buick produces are garbage cars, it’s just not a valid brand here anymore. They had to try so hard over the years to not have the brand seen as a retirement brand with stodgy uninspiring vehicles. Unfortunately for the past 10 years almost all Buick models were just rebadged European/Australian market cars now they are just re-badge Chinese cars. GM is having a very hard time trying to keep the brand afloat and as for the Acura brand, I believe that whole company is in need of attention. Unfortunately Acura is another company that used to be at the top leading edge of style performance and technology but has just let themselves go and are now just another form of rebadged Honda. Yes they might look different from your traditional accord or civic but a lot of the interior is very bland confusing to use and shares much of the same layout and switchgear as your average run-of-the-mill Honda Accord maybe with some extra stitching on top or chrome accents. even exteriors of the past few Acura models have been uninspiring and bland. I feel as if all the passion that Acura used to have is gone. Same with Buick. The brain today is just a lazy rebadged lineup of foreign market cars that aren’t really anything special. GM charges more money for Buick‘s but they really shouldn’t be as in some Chevys have nicer interiors than the latest Buick‘s.

@@Stressless2023 No your right on the business standpoint. As baffling as it is the GMC brand is a very good cash cow for GM. A lot of people don’t seem to mind paying for an overpriced, rebadged chevy and that benefits GM greatly. So I understand why the keep it around even if I do t understand why the public buys them. GM definitely could’ve had an easier time marketing Pontiac in the US brand it has a great history of building exciting cars for the most part and like I said they could’ve dedicated the brand to full hybrid electric sports cars/SUVs and made them exciting to look at, drive, and own.

"...when it comes to long-term reliability in particular, Buick has absolutely decimated their supposedly more fashionable family member. While most older Cadillacs rival old Kias when it comes to long-term quality, Buick is ranked #1 in our study when it comes to one important metric.
Length of ownership. For active brands, the oldest trade-in on average in our study covering nearly 1,300,000 vehicles is not a Lexus or a Mercedes, it's a Buick. The reason is while a lot of premium brands try to pursue greatness to an audience that tends to have a more fickle and transient nature towards car ownership, Buick has been able to focus on what I would call 'fine'-ness towards a more conservative audience that simply looks for a car that can comfortably do the job.
If you ask an owner of an older Buick what they think of their car, the answer you're likely to receive is someone in the realm of, "It's fine". There really isn't a lot of love for an older car that is created for conservative tastes. Made it shift into gear smoother and made it RWD & AWD (torque steer sucks). But overall seemed like a it has A LOT of issues as mentioned the excessive body roll, the unwanted braking which can be very dangerous and finally the steering. I guess this is great if you want a car made in China then I guess this is your ride! Personally it’ll be a cold day in hell before I drive a car made in China! I wonder if the newer ones are stuck on a boat out in the bay?
You do know sooner or later China is going to sell this platform in the US under a Chinese name for a lot less money and put GM at a business!
The idiot a General Motors that allowed this alliance has signed GM’s death warrant. Now we get to sit back and watch how long it takes for that to happen.
It’s already happened time and time again. Try and buy an American made Briggs & Stratton engine now! When the employees were told we’re building a plant in China just for Chinese consumption the employees actually believe them. 😞
