Because David Maxwell had a strong reputation, as a cutthroat card playing professional. I'm an old man now. And I miss Both of them guys. Freddie King, was very kind to me. As his mentor, and teacher, Robert Lockwood Jr. Was my adopted father, my mentor, my teacher , my beloved Daddy Robert. May God bless their eternal souls, always......
I had the distinct pleasure of buying Mr. Lockwood a drink at Sullys in Dearborn, after watching him perform. My wife and I then chatted amiably with him for a few minutes. It was in the early '90s. I had seen him at Hart Plaza several years prior. Mesmerizing player: that night, he weaved the riff from Sitting on Top of the World into many of his numbers. It was akin to hearing a symphony's theme. His backing of Sonny Boy Williamson on his Chess recordings is exquisite. He was truly a great, great artist. Oh, and he autographed an album I still have: 1 side him; the other Johnny Shines. God bless America.
Freddie King... For my money,he's really the man who invented what's come to be known as "Power Blues", and one of the major reasons I bought a Gibson ES-355. The "power wasn't strictly limited to his guitar playing...what a robust, passionate vocalist he was, also ! We lost him WAY too young... Great post !
I saw Freddie King performing in Paradiso Amsterdam 1974 . It was the show of my life, the audience was so exited, I'll never forget this event. This man is still a great inspiration to me (when I pick up my guitar and play a blues or two). Thank you Freddie, say hello to Stevie.

Most of those people don't realize that most guitar players take their favorite licks and phrases and change them as their own. It's just how it's always been.

I grew up near Chicago and am blessed to have heard all of the Chicago greats in the 60s. I heard Freddie at a club in Ft Worth about a year before he passed away. It was an amazing experience, by the end of the evening we were drenched in the blues. RIP Texas Cannonball....

There is plenty of complexity in blues music, it all depends on how narrow your vision of the blues is. People like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton took the blues into new territory with the experience and cream.
This song "The Things I Used To Do" has been for over four decades one of my all-time favourite blues favourites. Freddie King's version does very well when compared to Buddy Guy's record-breaking rendition on his "live" album "This Is Buddy Guy". But especially, thanks to you - the original composer of this masterpiece - Guitar Slim!
Always amazed , and sad that he has left us . Freddie was the greatest Bluesman ever , and he is the one I was influenced by the most ! His quirky stops and starts , always tell a story , and his voice had no equal ! He is my hero , and I miss him !

I have Freddie King's "Sings", I've listened to his "Getting Ready" album, and I've watched lots of great Freddy King live youtubes; I've also grown up with John Mayal, Peter Green Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, you name it, but this is such a great blues power live performance . . . oh wow;
I was luck enough to see Freddie King many times, the first time double billed with BB King.The real fun was watching him cut heads with the major rock stars,including Clapton. Loud as all hell, he would just kill.
