    If Milwaukee makes a PACKOUT rollout case with one big sliding drawer it is going to sell like crazy. Nothing worse than stacking all your PACKOUT boxes and then needing to get something from the bottom of the stack

    • @treykearns4867
      @treykearns4867 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Drives me nuts. Then you put it all back together, realize you need something that you thought was in the top box but then you remember you threw it in the bottom box the day before when you were in a hurry to roll up and get the hell out of there, so now you got to take them all down again and then you just look like some kind of OCD idiot to everybody else lol

      I have not used the stair due to the cost factor. Yet if I was young again, I would purchase. I’m 72 now and my body needs a rest. Going back in time may of saved my back,hips and knees. 140$ Canadian. They always go on sale and I got the same for 79.99. but that 140 is prob close to 100$ American. Harbour freight would have something similar. I always thought these dollies would work well

    2.Tilt one side to the van floor , then slide it in laying down ..
    3. Go inside the van, then tilt the hand truck back up.
    PS , you need better wheels on your dolly.
    Great set up..

I’m making one right now with extruded aluminum frame and mounting the packout base to attach the drawer boxes . No need for a separate hand truck. Love the drawers, so tired of stacking and unstacking boxes.

    They make hand trucks that have brackets just foe going over steps, curbs Ect. I used to deliver beer in the 90's .
    Look on the beer trucks. Miller, Coors. It will give you an idea. I'm sure you can figure something out. A (D) ring handle on a hand truck is the ticket, 1000 times better than a horizontal handle. If you could find an EX beer hand truck with an extension you would encrease productivity, and not screw your back up.

      @brandonhoffman4712 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My dad started doing the bucket thing. I hate it. We do tile and stone, we literally work out of buckets, and suddenly they are all getting filled with stuff, leading us to have to dump buckets of crap out to work. Horrible.
      I've been building packout stuff for a while. It's so much better. I like having a place for everything and everything in its place if possible. My stuff is still building and shifting, but I can know exactly where everything is, vastly increasing my workflow. Even increasing the amount of tools @ my disposal to improve my workflow and quality even further.

    This is great!
    I was able to make my Dewalt dolly box swivel around like yours by replacing the wheels with much taller ones, so it increased the box height enough to fit swivel casters under the front. It works excellent for me, but the wheels ad 3” width on each side. And it would be great if they just made a dolly with no box attached, like Festool, or the tstak trolly.

    Harbor freight small engine lift could lift entire hand truck pack out up to flush with van floor.

  • @charleskashark108
    @charleskashark108 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You should make yourself a little ramp that locks onto your bumper or some kind of magnet that temporarily holds the ramp so you can load and unload any rolling carts from your van. I did something like it and it worked a lot better than I thought it would, as the boxes were kind of heavy to pick up, and at the end of the day or at the end of a job anything easier is always better.
    From one wood butcher to another a little joke for you, I once saw a carpenter throw a long, pointed tool into another long pointed tool…
    awl in awl, it was a cool experience.

  • @stevenvachon9745
    @stevenvachon9745 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have a hand truck (foldable made by the same company as the boxes) that I only use now on long flat carriers for my stackable tool boxes but I find that the stack is just too heavy to go up and down stairs. Usually now I just grab a group of 2 or 3 boxes from the top in each hand and carry them in to the job. This is where I think Milwaukee falls short on their design....no top handle. How do you carry all those boxes up and down stairs? Very rare that there are not at least a few stairs on a job.

    • @stevebengel1346
      @stevebengel1346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve been brainstorming over this same subject for the past 4 months. I really liked the fact that Milwaukee came out with the drawer idea. My hang up was the big box (the rolling one). I do use that box for bulky items. Just received the notice this past week that an “xl box” had been brought out. Now we’re talking.
    My dolly that I use for numerous things, drawers for the small, frequently grabbed items (bits,blades, etc), big box for the bulky stuff. I think I can pack it all up and only have to shuffle two boxes. Game changer for sure. My only change is probably going to be to leave the wheels off the dolly part. Or if adding the wheels, leave the slot out entirely. The space between the wheels should be enough for the dolly. I do see the reason you did it your way

    I like the bottom rolling box better than any hand truck for stairs. The weight is closer into the axle and not far out in front with hand trucks. Even tried it with my stair climbing hand truck and the rolling box is easier.

      Agreed, I like how my rolling lower box pulls up into the van. I'd like to figure out a way to keep using it.

    Hi Spencer. If you look at a Reefer dollie they have additional wheels on a belt (like a fan belt) on the back which allows you to get in and out of trucks and haul up stairs. Just a thought.
    BTW, just took the pack out plunge yesterday. I’m looking forward to tightening up my tools. Thanks for the video…third time I watched, but finally went with the pack outs!

    Question, how do you like the Festool cart? I'm debating on whether to get one or not. Also, what might work for you is an appliance dolly cuz they're designed to "jump" over obstacles like that bumper. Great job 👍

      I have two and have used them for a long time. No serious complaints.

    How about adding one of those new, wider weathertech company's slide in,, hitch steps?...(assuming you have that type of trailer hitch), to help your dolly clear that bumper more easily....

    I made my own dolly after watching your video. I appreciate you sharing this idea.

    Pretty cool! I might copy and tweak your idea, i have 2 packout mounting plates already.
    Concerns i have are with stability. I think the packout is wider to get the wheels to the corners for stability. The other thing i would do for sure, is 3-4" non marring (grey rubber) rolling casters, 2 of them being locking casters (front 2).

    Great video. What I learnt in the event industry with stage rigging was to have a minimal of 3 inch wheels on anything you really want to move. 4 inch preferred for ease of use. Blue wheels above all else. Makes a huge difference. :)

      why blue wheels?

      @@jaysamples7165 The Blue wheels are a non marking rubber compound. You can also find this on some mallets, prevents skid marks.

      @@jaysamples7165 as mentioned, I know them from the entertainment industry. Running huge speaker systems for outdoor concerts etc. This stuff will roll over most surfaces quite easily and keeps up well for years.

    Great system you have! I wish these Packouts were a bit cheaper. I’m not a contractor but a homeowner/DYI person and while I have a workbench in my garage, like so many folks living in a tract-home the garage is basically our storage area (can’t even fit a car inside!). So I’m usually doing projects out in the backyard and carting numerous tools out there (and then back into the garage at night during times when it may get damp outside, even in So. California). So these would be perfect as a mobile workshop to hold my most commonly used power tools, drill bits, etc. that I could just wheel outside for the day (and really they would be fairly protected overnight unless it rained). They would also be a great option for teachers that have to bring out supplies for the kids each day then store them away at the end of the day. (Yes my wife is a teacher....)

    You have a lot of practical field experience, and you seem to think a lot while working. I am watching this video before purchasing the Milwaukee box. You don't seem to do exactly the same type of work as me, but I see a lot of similarities. And I think your video helped me a lot. English is not my native language, so I ask for your understanding.

    Add a pair of smaller wheels right above the bigger ones, or ive seen hand-truck/dollys with rubber belts above the wheels

    I don't have my van set up for stacks like you do (lot's of E & X track). I filled the spaces between the ribs with some machined scrap wood flooring (treasures I finally had a good use for), then laid a stall mat (4x8x 3/4" rubber mat) down. Works well, wheels don't hang up on it. Used, so not as strong smelling. If you watch out (or order them), you can get them in other sizes and thicknesses. Most are not quite 3/4", and few are in stock as 8' (usually 4x6ish). Check if you buy them and get them from the same stack (2 sides, some have texture on one side, and some are supposed to not absorb moisture). Heavy, grab a pair of Vise Grips to move them. No easy way to cut them, just a sharp utility knife. 1/4" minimum thickness and carts roll over them fine (on the shop floor).

    I seen this video awhile back and just watched again. Great ideas and enjoy your delivery.
    Could try an appliance dolley, they are larger than the one you are using but have the back rail that aligned with the wheels that allows you to manage stairs better.

    I put my fes tracks on the inside of the roof aswell using straps but seen you used a clap didn't think to srew a clap to the fram of the van that would be quicker then straps.. Cheers..
    Id use a ramp into your van for your trolly
