I want to keep in mind that your style is what you wear every day. It's not three words, it's not a fantasy self, and it's not a Pinterest board or a wishlist of garments-to-be, but rather the clothes you put on your body each day. This year I intend to make sure my theoretical style aligns with the way I actually dress.
I made so many mistakes buying clothes for my fantasy self. I decluttered so many dresses and high heel shoes I never wear. I kept only what I would truly wear. Comfortable shoes are a must.
Thank you for feeling safe enough with this community to share such difficult personal details, Alyssa. I admire your energy, your style and your committment to your slow fashion ethics. My mantra this year is 'to be brave and to be bright'. I've been a 'black, navy, grey and white' girl for as long as I can remember, but I'm going to be 60 this year and want to embrace it - the bravery and brightness are as much about personal energy as about getting out of my fashion rut and my aim is to move into this new decade without apology - that's the theory, anyway :)
I decided to wear things that I’m unsure about. Did it today with a dress actually, it made me realize that I want to donate it. It seems that I have to wear something for A WHOLE DAY before I can decide how I truly feel about it. 😂 Gonna do it at least once a week as a way to start decluttering this year. So far I’ve removed 3 garments that someone else can enjoy.
I am the same. Great way to finally let go of those stragglers that you have styled a dozen ways and told yourself that you would wear if only you had the right whatever.
Taking clothing for a test drive is important, since we have to live in them (not just model them in a brightly lit, temperature controlled dressing room)! I'm the same way with shoes (Anyone else find that you can try on comfy footwear in-store, but the moment it comes home with you it irritates some (previously unbothered) part of your foot, lol?) It's annoying (but understandable) that you can't return stuff after trying it on outside, but I make sure not to get rid of anything that the new item is supposed to replace until I'm *sure* it fits well. Whenever I make mistakes though, I'm just thankful there's a market for 'once worn' reselling & donations 😅😅
Dear Alyssa, My heart and prayers go out to you regarding your divorce. I have wondered over the last year because the background changed, and you never mentioned your husband anymore, plus your rings were gone. I love your channel, your creativity, and your spirit ❤️. And of course you experimented with your style! You had to figure out who you were now, as a single woman! I went thru the same after my divorce. May your new year be blessed with joy, health, abundance and love ❤️ .
I have seasonal mood boards and find them really useful if I’m bored and looking at on line fashion then I look at them instead and think about what I already have and try and get new inspiration to style things instead of looking for new stuff. Good luck for your next chapter ❤
I'm doing a just five "new" things this year and it's already (one month in) a game changer for me. No constant browsing, no thinking about what to buy, no hassling with returns. If I'm only getting 5 new things for the year, they have to be amazing, and can also be more investment type pieces than I would let myself buy in the past. I think this may be a way of life for me as eventually over time I'll have a tiny wardrobe of just the most intentional pieces. Divorce is hard, I've been there, but it can also be a transformative time to reevaluate all your priorities and intentions for your life. I hope the year brings you joy, peace and clarity.
I hope this year is much better for you. I can relate to the need to reset after drastic life changes as my husband died last January after a long illness. I am gradually reclaiming my natural-ethereal singer/ singing teacher identity and moving away from distraught, exhausted, dishevelled carer role. It’s a long, hard process made much easier by your videos.
I recently downsized my life....really....everything! Left the big house behind, etc. So that meant downsizing my wardrobe. Last week I actually pulled everything OUT of my closets. Did the usual... What I do wear, What I don't and need to donate, and put those rare occasion clothes in the air tight bags and stored away. Then I organized one part of the closet for everyday casual, the other side for dressier days. It seems to work better that way for me! LOL....left side "I'm staying home", right side "I'm going out!"
I’m thinking about restyling my closet around “outfits” hoping this will give me some inspiration to try different things together. Also challenging myself to wear more prints with prints this has definitely given me a creativity boost!
I’m welcoming my first baby soon so my style goals are to have patience with a new, changing situation and focusing on loving my body’s changes through it all
I just find that as I get older I have so more fun enjoying my wardrobe. Every season I experiment with different colors now that my hair is silver and I love wearing cool colors now. I have been having a great time with berets and scarves. Its good to embrace wherever you are in life.
So sorry to hear that 2023 was difficult for you, here’s to a happy, healthy and fulfilling new year for you and everyone else.l look forward to seeing what you come up with this year.
I am retired 5 years now from 25+ years in corporate law - After experimenting with oh so many "fun" styles, I have settled back where I belong! Classic, tailored, simple - my 3 words and I couldn't be happier with my curated closet and I am sure the thrift shops are happy with all my donations! Thank you for all you do and may 2024 be a fabulous year for fabulous you!
While I am sorry about your divorce, I am so happy to see you more authentically yourself. You seem lighter, more you. Thank you for always bringing quality content even when times are tough. I wish you nothing but the best for 2024 and I am going to be here for a long time, growing with you. For my wardrobe, I love the juxtaposition between modern, almost futuristic cuts and styles while having the "classic" base of red lips/nails, glossy waves, and classic, clean skin and makeup. I am 52 and looking forward to moving from my "comfortable professional" phase into something a little more adventurous. Great video, merci beaucoup.
My intentions are 1) to dress in a way that makes me feel empowered every time I leave the apartment 2) to celebrate my body rather than hiding/disguising it 3) take good care of the pieces in my wardrobe so that they'll be with me for many years!
Love this! We definitely need to be dressing for what makes us feel like the best version of ourselves. I have also accepted that if I'm bloated and feeling *ugh*, I can wear a pair of sweats and a t-shirt without guilt. There's nothing saying that I can't do some styling tweaks with comfort in mind - and after the tweaks, I tend to feel more put-together even in my comfy clothes!
Wishing you all the best. Loved, loved your "bombshell" descriptor. As someone who is 40 years post divorce, i know the first period can be challenging, such a sense of loss. But you radiate such wonderful energy and beauty. I am truly content now with 2nd husband who gave me 2 great kids. My intentions for the year are to be more grateful and generous. Sending love to the lovely Alyssa. ❤
I've been grieving and let myself fall into a whatever mood with my clothes. My intention is to pick 3 outfits for the winter that acknowledges my heart without having to care about style
Alyssa, I have always thought that you are so beautiful. However, you are absolutely STUNNING in this video. You seem happy, relaxed and at ease in a home environment that truly reflects your unique style. It’s so nice to see you in your own place and with all the space you need for you and Apollo. I’m so happy for you because you deserve all the goodness and blessings. 😊
I waaaaaaaaay over consumed last year. I went on a no buy 12/1/23 and it lasts till 2/28/24. I feel fantastic and confident with what I have in my closet and the shopping FOMO isn’t even an issue like I thought it would be. Also my styling creativity has increased!!!! I’m having so much fun figuring out an outfit with what I have. In December I sat down and listed the items I want to buy this year to added to my closet. It’s nice to have a plan so I don’t over consume again this year.
My 2024 words are Inspiration, abundance, and gratitude. I tidy my closet regularly, refresh it seasonally, and track outfits for 2 week blocks randomly throughout the year. I shop exclusively second hand. This year my goal is to raise the quality level and focus on core neutrals that ALL work well together. My style has also been clear from a young age. My words are elegant, crisp-fresh, form fitting. My lifestyle is ActiveCasual, Dressy for church and date night! Watching your video and writing this comment has really helped me to focus in on these ideas.
Happy 2024! Your line about wearing button ups since age 5 made me laugh out loud. 😂 I’m approaching this year with a mindset of plenty so that a no/low buy feels intentional rather than restrictive. I also organize my closet seasonally and create seasonal mood boards. It’s a great way to visualize outfits and have fun.
Hi Alyssa, 2023 was a shocker of a year for me, too (breast cancer). 2024 has started off with a nasty sting, too, but when life gives you lemons... I was planning a no buy for Jan/Feb, but now I will extend this indefinitely. I hope 2024 is an amazing year for you. I absolutely love your content and re-watch your videos frequently as they just don't date. It's great to see you back. Thank you for always being so honest and totally amazing ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺
I actually decided to do a no buy this month without seeing this video. I plan on shopping my closet this year and really leaning into to wearing what I already have in different ways. Thank you for the added inspiration. It’s funny how a divorce can make us reevaluate our style and give us freedom to figure out who we are. I did it in 2016 so I completely get it. I also am at the place in my life where I know what my style is and I no longer need to experiment. Everything you said resonated with me. Thank you for putting it all into words.
Thanks for the ideas. My intentions are to shop my closet with inspiring street styles from my Pinterest board, experiment more, and wear everything at least twice and consider altering/repurposing it before chucking it out.
Seasonal mood board is also where I am at now. I have been working through the curated closet in planning for my winter sewing goals. (I sew most of my clothes). Leaning into basics and a controlled palette has me feeling fresh and pulled together. Thanks for your inspiration, as always, Alyssa. (four seasons for me too in Nova Scotia).
After the birth of my daughter (who is going to be 5 very soon), I kinda lost my personal style. I was living in leggings and sweatshirts (Covid didn't help), and focusing completely on her and really nothing on me, which is not a healthy mindset. I've spent the last year and a half trying to find my style again and letting myself feel ok with being more than just a mom. Thanks for helping me on that journey. One of my challenges for myself this year is to make 75% of the clothes I buy second hand. I always joke that 75% of my wardrobe is thifted, but this year I'm tracking it and shooting for that goal. Also, when thrifting, shopping with specific items in mind and not just buying random things I find because "it's only $5, why not".
My 2024 style intention: raise the floor. I feel good most of the time when I "really dress," but I really feel frumpy in my loungewear and activewear. ...Also: big digital hugs re: divorce. You are classy here as in all things, but it's such a disruption (ask me how I know), and your ability to continue to create consistent, genuine and helpful content in the midst of it--on a topic you've been covering for years on end, no less--is really impressive. You deserve all the rest you need, and I hope you're getting that.
So sorry to hear about what you've been going through but wishing you all the happiness and love in 2024! Really look forward to your videos every week xx
Since turning 69 in December what's really resonating with me is DEFINE and REFINE; define what my style is and refine my wardrobe. This is helping me so much to clean out my wardrobe of clothing that I constantly pass over. Also, I want to buy less in 2024 while still up grading the quality of the pieces that I do purchase.
My kitchen too needs "remerchandising" lol! Here's to an early reorganising and spring-cleaning, maybe a little decluttering (I leave things I no longer want outside my front gate and they're usually snapped up pretty quickly! It actually brings a smile to my face knowing someone else will reuse and relove them.
Oh my! No shopping, no alcohol in January. You guys are killin’ me 😂😂😂 I think I'll do no buy in Feb. The sales are picked through by then and I am just usually shopping because I'm restless. Love this video, the shopping list idea is Fab and so is the seasonal mood board, I live in 4 seasons too, and cold Springs throw me off my game. Thanks so much!
The seasonal mood boards are such a great idea. I have everything style in one mood board, and sometimes I'm looking at things that are out of season, which is a waste of time.
May 2024 be a banner year for you in every way--you are so valued and appreciated, resonating with so many of us who are trying to figure out our wardrobes and shopping, too.
Most importantly, it seems like we have to redefine our own styles. Coming off Covid isolation, many of us may need to rethink how we want to dress now. We are looking to you, Alyssa, our inspiration, to help us!
Love love love! I’m doing a no buy and I’ve been styling my wardrobe. I have two wardrobes: work which is 100% fitness and then play which is where I want to evolve and become confident in. I’m styling everything now and not buying a thing. Oh and my shopping list is where I get to fantasize and then rationalize. Love this!
Dear Alyssa, I want to thank you for your great contents over so many years. I have learned so much through your channel. This has made my life better, easier and more beautiful
Happy 2024 dear Alyssa 🖤 I worked for a designer for almost eight years and startet on the 2nd of January a new journey. My new work environment is a little bit more conservative as I work now for a world famous venue for classic music. I lean now more into tailoring and formal dressing. I always loved tailored pants (don't own jeans) yet enjoyed my leather leggings and trainers. So I bought two suits (new but as responsible as possible), a pair of Max Mara wool trousers and a stunning wool blazer secondhand. I can now mix and match and I am very curious how my "work style" will evolve in 2024. And my leather leggings with a good old band tshirt will be used for nights out 🎉
Having lived in the woods on a lake for the last 3 years, I've gone a little bit over board (not too much) thrifting, now that I've moved to a city for this winter (I do think though that my wardrobe needed a bit of a refresh😊). Having said that, I've also realized that because my mom taught me about quality fabrics and classic pieces, and because I grew up dressing up for more occasions, I've been buying more dressy items that I really need. What I've learned watching you is that I can combine a dressy item with a more casual one and it looks more interesting (such as a black pair of trousers with a denim shirt and black dress shoes). Thank you for all you give to us! May 2024 be a bombshell of a year for you!
I didn’t buy too many winter items yet except 3 bomber jackets ($12 each) so I am wearing last year’s winter purchases now. I am thinking about skipping this year’s season change sale. I don’t have holes in my wardrobe. Wearing past purchases is enough. It means not going on websites daily to browse. It’d be 3 months of holding tight on my urges 🙏
This was great, Alyssa. Happy New Year to you too. I am on a low-buy month., if I buy at all. I intend to shop in the store first instead of ordering online and I plan on paying cash if I truly want an item. I also plan on going through my spring/summer wardrobe over the next few weeks. Wishing you a fabulous 2024 and looking forward to watching more of your helpful videos.
While you are doing a no-buy could you revisit something you did 5 years ago? You did a series on shopping your closet to find different styles. Edgy, preppy, bohemian etc. I really love that kind of inspiration content.
I’ve been watching your videos for some time, but feel like this is THE YEAR I can devote time, energy, and intentionality to my wardrobe. After four beautiful children, I am ready to have clothing in my size closet that is just my size - and sell/donate items that don’t serve me any more. I also desire a less is more attitude. Looking forward to what unfolds!
Hi Alyssa, thank you for sharing your personal life with us. I too had a massive life change. I become an empty nester. Just me and two cats. Taken it day by day. But I’m okay. You will be too. I did a no spend January. It was great. I am so grateful for what I have. Use what you’ve got. Might repeat it for march.
I started a no buy year in November ,after reaching goal weight and going crazy shopping and purging. I have always wanted to see the true versatility in my closet and really delve into that as I have plenty to probably style clothes for several years without repeating. I quit a capsule program I paid for and used for 30 days every season, . as it limited me to really feeling free to use my full closet
This year I will be very intentional about what I buy, where I buy from and trying to purchase as little as possible. I usually do a no buy January and I will be culling all my wardrobe. I try to wear all my clothes in all the seasons which is challenging for us Canadians. I will be leaning a lot into my style this year which is funky boho but with a capsual twist.
My style intentions... I'm very comfortable with my style at this point. I've figured out that the way I've always dressed does well suit my body and my personality, so I haven't stuck with that simply from inertia. I don't need to buy much since what I have mostly works well already, but it's always fun to add a piece with some color, or a replacement with a little better fit, etc. I have decided to always shop 2nd-hand first for everything except underwear, shoes, and workout wear. There are several thrift and consignment stores in my community, so I have some options for that. Happy new year and I'll look forward to seeing your posts.
my intention is to be really really picky when I shop for clothes xD and I mostly mean from the practical side and how comfortable something is. lately, I've just been noticing things in my wardrobe that don't fight quite right or are uncomfortable in some way and I just don't want to wear them. I've already been trying to be very picky when buying clothes, but sometimes there is something about an item that makes me wanna buy it despite it being slightly uncomfortable and in the moment I tell myself that it's not that bad. but I know that if I take it into my wardrobe I won't want to wear it so long as there are more comfortable options available.
Love the concept of seasonal board and repinning old pins. my goal is to find my go to outfit each season. my body changes slightly each season, which changes my favorit outfit of the season
Hi Alyssa thank you for getting me on slow fashion. I have been very mindful of my shopping and have tried new ideas with old clothes. I’m finding this is the way forward for me. Appreciate your channel 👌
Happy New Year! I had a hint you had a life change by one sentence in one video a few months back. I do hope that 2024 brings you joy! I have learned quite a bit from your videos over the years and my personal style is coming into view. My job in state-level government calls for definite business wear, no peeking bralettes for me alas. Still, your videos have helped me be intentional in what I buy rather than just buying "businesswear" for the sake of businesswear. When I first got the job, even as COVID was still raging in 2021, my only thought was, "I can't wear loungewear," and I bought clothes without a plan. You have taught me how to develop a plan for the look and feel of my workwear. Thanks!
List making is so helpful! I can be easily marketed to on social media it helps me a lot to save links to items I think I want in my notes section….9/10 times I totally move past the urge & forget about the item.
I've realised you constantly evolve and change in your style. What I learnt over Summer, is I love dresses...midi dresses. I can look feminine and polished without much effort (and without needing to remember to shave!). During Winter, I love wearing skinny jeans/leggings more and last year I spent so much £££ on mini skirts which I wore alot for 1 season. Now, I want comfort, warmth and ease of dressing. I'm essentially a thoughtful lazy dresser. So no more skirts this year (esp. Mini skirts, mini dresses), and I also love handbags but I get bored easily and switch up A LOT so it makes no sense me buying super luxury designer bags unless they are for functional long-term purposes. I've also started knitting to help qualm my shopping addiction lol.
Btw. In 2019 my resolution was to not buy anything. (Other than really necessary stuff like food etc.) I loved it and that year taught me soooo much about myself, my shopping behaviour and the world we live in. I can only recommend it to everyone out there.
Great video. Thank you, Alyssa! I think my style intentions are to play more with colour and to dress up a little more. My lifestyle changed during the pandemic to working full-time from home, so I got into a style rut. As for no-buy, I'm a bit late to the party, but will do this over the next few months, with the caveat that I may buy practical items such as base layers and a neck gaiter so I can enjoy the great outdoors here in chilly Ottawa. 😃⛄Oh, and I'm going to sew more of my clothes. 🪡
I’ve been working on organising my office, which has given me more space to work and doing the same with my closet. This brought me to thinking, as kids we loved playing dress up, why do we lose such an amazing skill? That is my intention for this year, play dress up with what I have :)
I discovered your channel a few months ago and whilst I’m glad to now have a term for my pro charity shop/hanging on to favs mentality you have helped me to narrow down and focus my wardrobe and future choices and best of all finally find my ‘style’ which has helped with confidence. Thankyou 🥰
Hi Alyssa I feel that this was a reach out to me lol .I have known for a while now that I've become a shopaholic and this year I've made up my mind to do something about it so this came at a perfect time for me . Thank you
Best wishes for 2024 Alyssa! I am also doing a no buy in January for clothing and shoes. Scrolling less on socials is a game changer and making a wishlist really helped me out last year as well too. Just to make sure I only buy if I really need it. I am slowly finding my personal style :)
I’m using all different resources (like Indyx cataloguing & workshop, YT videos, & Pinterest) to try to find my personal style. That way I can wear only what makes me happy, comfortable, and feel like me. I’ve decluttered 3 sacks of clothes/bags/shoes so far, and bought a longline T-shirt, an oversized lilac shirt, and some smart “fat pants” so I can still feel comfy & professional at work when I’m bloated - another intention seems to be trying to think more kindly about my body while on this style-finding quest. While I do t tend to buy much, when shopping or deciding whether or not to declutter something, I’m considering quality and material make-up (something you mentioned in a video) more carefully.
Thank you for this video! When I saw reset, I initially thought oh-no. I appreciate the thoughtful nuance you bring to resetting within your style and in moderation. Love being part of the community… and here’s to no buy January together!😊
Happy New Year Alyssa, I love going through my wardrobe and pulling things out I don’t wear. I do it quite consistently. Especially with things in drawers. I use an app called Freeform (on iPad) to create mood/vision boards for everything creative in my life. This year I’m working on accessories, so shoes, handbags, small leather goods, jewelry. These areas need some life. I screen shot photos of handbags I own and plan to purchase along with shoes. I create a board with the app and put the bags along the middle and the shoes around the bags. This way I can get an idea of how the styles look together. I can also see where I can fill a few gaps. I also have committed to consistently adding in some color to my wardrobe. This year I purchased one burgundy sweater and one winter green long sleeve top. I will do the same once spring/summer rolls around. I try to plan what color would work with what I currently own. I probably only have two more handbags to add one neutral and one travel bag. I look forward to having a more complete wardrobe soon ❤❤❤❤❤. Have a wonderful & fun year 😊
Love your videos. I’m decluttering my whole house this year, so I’m going to shop my house (not just my closet) when I think I ‘need’ anything!love the idea of merchandising my closet but I can’t find the link to the video you mentioned x
I love your channel so much - it has been such a source of inspiration and and I never leave a video feeling like I need to buy something. I'm also committing to finding new outfit formulas that feel better with dressing my body as it is and not as I think it should be or how it was pre-baby.
I love the button up shirt left unbuttoned to be low cut look on you. I always think Jenna Lyons looks great-she does that a lot. You’ve inspired me to “go for it!”
Thank you very much for your video. I started 2 weeks ago with a wardrobe detox for the rest of the year after realsing that i use shopping for relaving stress and other negative feelings after being diagnosed with a serieus illnes, leaving me with items that i do'nt love and don't need. i am better now, but i have to itmit that i find it difficult to not give in to my shopping habbit. your advice to join the shop your closet video is really helpful.
I am experimenting this year. I have a rule that if I put it on I wear it all day. Sometimes I find that yes I really like it and sometimes I don't and often I realize that I am finding the gaps in my wardrobe. It's been fun.
Amazing. I think that I am at the same situation. Now I know what works for me, so I need less. But I still need your tips, you are helping me a lot. Thanks.
I bought a lot in 2023 after a few years of very low buy I invested in great timeless pieces that will last forever, both clothes and footwear. But now I am getting a bit sick of buying, I have enough clothes and I don't even go out that much (freezing here in London so staying indoors with pussycats). So I'm ready for no-buy 2024 and possibly beyond, I don't need anything and I'm ready to style and enjoy the wonderful pieces I have. At 57 I want to wear (out) what I have, I don't want to wear an outfit just once or twice, I want my new jeans to mould my body and look lived in rather than brand new. My motto is restyle, rewear, relove. My style has stayed quite similar to what I was wearing in the 70s and I love this vibe.
for some reason you didn't appear in my algorithm for a while, and i hadn't really watched you much of last year. i had no idea what you were going through. but when I saw you again i immediately pressed play and saw you glowing! i thought, "she looks really good" before you even mentioned you got divorced. i hope this year is much better and that you are happy and healthy! thank you so much for all that you do 🙏🏽
Hi Alyssa. I wish you love, light and peace this 2024. I always watch your videos. Just want to share my thoughts on my wardrobe plan. Coming from a poor family I’ve always practiced slow (no) fashion 😃 I didn’t buy new clothes because I couldn’t afford them, and since childhood I relied on gifts, hand me downs from my mom and borrowed clothes for my outfits.. I got through it all until I was working.. once in a blue moon I would buy second hand clothes from thrift shops. Because of that I was able to experiment on a lot of styles of clothing..I only went so far as researching what my body type was but that’s about it. The downside was that I didn’t feel I was in control of my closet and how I dress, and that I was sometimes wearing colors or clothes that didn’t fit me properly. It was only recently that I became interested in style and fashion, and slowly I was able to figure out what I want.. when I could already afford it I was shopping for a lot of clothes but there were still hits and misses.. but by watching your channel I became more focused on style advice that made sense. Now I’m more mindful of my purchases and i could feel proud of my closet now which is filled with clothes that I know I will wear for many years and is true to my style. My plan for this year is to continue curating my closet and expressing my style more with every outfit I create. Cheers!
Hi Alyssa, I’ve been on and off your channel for the last 2 1/2 years due to working on my Master’s degree in English which I received in May the same weekend of my 60th bday. Before that I was a regular viewer- I went thru my separation and divorce when I was just 31-32. Before that I was a regular viewer and loved your videos especially those with your mother. Buying clothes has always been hard for me - scared of the cost, etc. My second husband has 10x more clothes than me easily. I just think you need to have a personal style and don’t waiver from it. I’m into the classics - I will definitely try skipping a button the next time I wear my buttoned white shirt!
I don’t want to experiment too much but love that you do and admit when it isn’t you! I am SLOWLY editing my closet and think that will have a big impact on my urge to shop and increase my creativity. I have some seasonal outfits on Stylebook that I continue to update while using Pinterest pins. Need to do it again.
You have always helped me to look at my wardrobe in fresh and creative ways. I love your style and sweet positivity. Thanks for putting yourself out there. You are my favorite channel for style and fashion.👍😎
Words cannot express the enjoyment I get from watching you. I could dream of the perfect woman and she wouldn't hold a candle to you. I am sure Idky I am sooo infatuated with you Alyssa. Your vibe is dope, your smile is enchanting n your style is gorgeous. If we ever met I would do all I can to sweep you off your beautiful feet. Lol, I guess a guy can dream. Keep doing your thing Alyssa. Much respect n love ❤
A great approach, thanks for sharing. I'm in the process of going through my wardrobe not with the intention to necessarily cull or remove items, but to curate the items I want to KEEP. Really thinking about the items I love and that I wear regularly, what serves my style and lifestyle now (not some dream style that I think I should have...) is making this an easier process and I think will produce a better wardrobe as I return to work after a well-deserved break. Turning 50 later this month is also focusing me to look at who I actually am rather than who I used to be / want to be / people think I should be, and how my wardrobe reflects that.
My intentions are to focus on mending and repairing what I already have. I was just thinking how much I enjoy some of my oldest favorite clothes. I already have seasonal mood boards, which I agree are super helpful- I'm going to edit mine to make sure they represent real life. I'm sorry to hear you went through a divorce, I hope you have acmore positive 2024.
Wishing you a wonderful 2024. I just finished a 10 x 10 challenge based on brown palette as my base. I'm intending to try this with a blue-black-grey 10 x 10 wardrobe experiment this winter. My main intention is to only purchase items on my priority list. Otherwise, it's going to be primarily a "no buy/low buy" year. I'm working on a fall/winter palette of camel, brown with accents of orange and/or yellow. Summer will definitely be a no-buy/low-buy season as I certainly have enough summer clothes. My habit is to shop preloved (consignment, vintage, thrift, maybe even flea market). I own most of the basics I need and want to focus on interesting accessories.
@@lynneroute1202 I think it's a kind of Styling Creativity Challenge. People often use this concept when travelling. Select 10 Pieces from your closet. You make it broad or narrow, to suit yourself. WaHOOO! She's back! 😄Glad to see you pop up in my notiifications! Best in 2024 to you! I just turned 60 (!???) and a shift has happened in my fashion brain. I want to get rid of the clothes that are "alright" or "a like them" and basically start looking for more quality classics that I LOVE. If i try it on and don't LOVE it, (1) it's going to take a long time for me to find something, but (2) I WILL LOVE MY CLOTHES, and that sounds like a good place to be. 😊 I also feel i need to redefine "sexy and powerful" (one of my personas that pops in every now and then) because of the changes in my shape and face (aging), combine it with "smart" or "classy" (instead of "street", for instance); still trying to figure out if i should keep my hair long... So much to think re-evaluate! It's def a reset time for me! I still don't want to spend a lot of money, but I love going to vintage and consignment shops. Wish me luck!
I, too, am so sorry for your last years' difficulty. Im praying God blesses you as you have blessed me. Your videos have put me on a great journey of figuring out my style and helping me curate my closet. I love your idea of closet re-set idea! Watching this video is perfect for my goal of making sure my closet is making my life easier this year.
I take everything out of my closet nearly every season. I always look for things to repair, to give or throw away and the rest I try on in different styles and my favourites go back into my closet. I put the rest in a box. I always find something in that box for the next season
I’m grateful for all I have which is too much but I have decided to log what I wear so I can see now how much I’ve changed in the last couple of years. I am editing and sending some things off to an organisation called reskinned in the uk. I also have a wish list and my intentions. I am going to have a low buy this year and a bit of a clean and clear of the house.
And.. I do seasonal boards too. My purpose is to look for common themes in my clothes, take out of my closet what I’m not wanting wear, putting them in a trial separation area, lastly it helps me see holes in my wardrobe.
I’m 64 and have made so many costly mistakes by experimenting with clothes. I take in to consider what makes me feel like me and listen to positive comments from a few trusted people. Knowing yourself and what works for you exudes confidence.
Thank you for sharing some of your personal journey with us. I had wondered, in the way that you were expressing yourself. There was/is something very seeker, open, and new path oriented going on. I relate and I wish you well. Even in only witnessing your efforts, awareness, and passion over a youtube channel, I feel you are on a path to an even deeper of knowing of yourself. I love your content, perspective, and commitment to these ideas and to yourself. Much love.
So we'll said!
@@Buttercupz2001 ??
I made so many mistakes buying clothes for my fantasy self. I decluttered so many dresses and high heel shoes I never wear. I kept only what I would truly wear. Comfortable shoes are a must.
That's why the first one of my style words is functional! It needs to be grounded in reality.
@@trishredding8009
Yes, agree!
Sadly, I am still in the “fantasy me” and I am in my 70’s😂😂😂😂 No freakin’ chance of changing!😩
I love this idea & I find that I am the same with having to wear something for an entire day to really see how I feel about it!!
Maybe throw a sweater over your dress. Maybe belt it. Add some knee boots.
I am the same. Great way to finally let go of those stragglers that you have styled a dozen ways and told yourself that you would wear if only you had the right whatever.
@brendaashton6428 I'm in the process of doing this too!
Taking clothing for a test drive is important, since we have to live in them (not just model them in a brightly lit, temperature controlled dressing room)!
I'm the same way with shoes (Anyone else find that you can try on comfy footwear in-store, but the moment it comes home with you it irritates some (previously unbothered) part of your foot, lol?)
It's annoying (but understandable) that you can't return stuff after trying it on outside, but I make sure not to get rid of anything that the new item is supposed to replace until I'm *sure* it fits well.
That’s a really kind comment 🙂
Felt the same and hoped you were ok. Thank you for sharing.
I have seasonal mood boards and find them really useful if I’m bored and looking at on line fashion then I look at them instead and think about what I already have and try and get new inspiration to style things instead of looking for new stuff. Good luck for your next chapter ❤
Beautifully said 👌🏽
I also wondered the same, but I figured she would share when she was ready. My heart goes out to you, Alyssa ❤
Wishing you joy, peace and happiness as you continue your reclamation.
Glad you are reclaiming yourself after a rough year.
Good for you and I'm sure you will achieve your goals! You deserve to be happy and your husband would want you to be too.
@@cltinturkey Thank you.
@@americafirst9144 Thank you.
❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful 👏🏽👏🏽
There's nothing saying that I can't do some styling tweaks with comfort in mind - and after the tweaks, I tend to feel more put-together even in my comfy clothes!
fabulous intentions!
Ok, now I get it. Bombshell hair! Looks great!
I've been grieving and let myself fall into a whatever mood with my clothes. My intention is to pick 3 outfits for the winter that acknowledges my heart without having to care about style
glad you're being gentle with yourself xx
I hope that your breast cancer was caught early, so your treatment was not too aggressive.
I’m a breast cancer survivor as well. I wish you all the best in your recovery.
You deserve all the rest you need, and I hope you're getting that.
thank you so so much xx
And my leather leggings with a good old band tshirt will be used for nights out 🎉
Great video with lots to think about! I don’t know what my style intentions are but I’m going to give it some thought. 😊 Thank you! 🤍
Great video. The poop rule is the bomb. Very effective. Funny too.
Been with you since the beginning. I hope you lead a much happier year this year and beyond. He is an idiot😮 love you so much❤️❤️❤️❤️
Btw.
In 2019 my resolution was to not buy anything. (Other than really necessary stuff like food etc.)
I loved it and that year taught me soooo much about myself, my shopping behaviour and the world we live in.
*do t = don’t
Have a wonderful & fun year 😊
Good on you, moving forward with your life after all your drama in 2023. Many Blessings to you for a wonderful 2024!
Love your videos. I’m decluttering my whole house this year, so I’m going to shop my house (not just my closet) when I think I ‘need’ anything!love the idea of merchandising my closet but I can’t find the link to the video you mentioned x
th-cam.com/video/oOmCdguq018/w-d-xo.html
I believe it's this one.
Moderation is cool. 😊
I am experimenting this year. I have a rule that if I put it on I wear it all day. Sometimes I find that yes I really like it and sometimes I don't and often I realize that I am finding the gaps in my wardrobe. It's been fun.
Casual classic simplicity always.
Amazing. I think that I am at the same situation. Now I know what works for me, so I need less. But I still need your tips, you are helping me a lot. Thanks.
I've been waiting on your return .😊
Hey!! I am doing a no-buy clothing this year. ❤ I will be shopping my closet and see if I can live with what I have.
Great to see you again! Onwards and Upwards!
Fabulous as always such a joy to listen to you you’re always so super positive love it👍🇦🇺✅
Wishing you a wonderful 2024.
What is a 10 X 10?
@@lynneroute1202 I think it's a kind of Styling Creativity Challenge. People often use this concept when travelling. Select 10 Pieces from your closet. You make it broad or narrow, to suit yourself. Your 10 may be garments only, with shoes, coats, purses and accessories additional. The really minimalist '10 X 10' brigade include footwear and purses in the challenge! Which is > To Make 10 Outfits From Your 10 Pieces. Alyssa has used this exercise to encourage her own creative styling skills.
WaHOOO!
@vforv9402 Wow, I admire your high energy. If I sort one drawer that's a good day 😉
I’m doing a shopping 🛍️ break for the first quarter of the year. Declutterring and re thinking my style and how I combine what I already have.
Happy 2024!
Happy New Year Alyssa! No-buy January for me.
Much love.
❤well Alyssa - the Bombshell goes well You with the Italian style of so many beauties including MB and SL. Have fun with the sexiness! Xo J
