Please 🙏 I am rather dense with regard to fashion but willingly to learn. Or if it is too much trouble, maybe just say how many outfits can be formed with the items in the autumn capsule? Thank you for all the thought you put into styling your outfits.
I would love for you to address that many women swing between a range of body weight, making certain parts of our wardrobe unavailable at certain times. So our closets are fatter because of this need to hold a couple different sizes, and yet it’s not all in use all the time. Thanks
I definitely feel this the most when we're told to toss anything that doesn't fit us right now. If I'm on the heavier end of my range, I will still need that cute shirt or dress that is too small because it will fit at times. I fluctuate over the year but I know people that fluctuate over the month or less a few sizes, so they can't just pack up the not fitting sizes cuz they might need it out next week.
So glad I'm not alone in this struggle! I fall between two "standard" sizes, and fluctuate up and down frequently. It's hard to remember to treat myself with grace when I'm really frustrated because none of my pants fit correctly😢
My weight fluctuates 15 pounds between seasons: I'm heaviest in winter/spring and lightest in summer/fall. This makes it easier for me because the wardrobe is very different. Typically, the only things I need in 2 sizes are jeans/slacks.
The best part of this vid for me is the reminder that wearing the clothes we love can have a long history and not be procured in the latest season. Its an authorising space for wearing your clothes endlessly
Yes!!! My friends & I swap declutters a lot & it’s always a thrill to see them getting joy from it!! “One woman’s declutter is another woman’s treasure!”
This method has definitely given me pause and thought into what to bring into my closet. I tend to bring in more of the same probably bc of what I’m drawn to. I need to learn to be more intentional. Change is hard! Thank you Alyssa
I think is the most useful video you’ve ever made. Wow wow. I’ve genuinely never thought of it this way and I read/watch A LOT of fashion. Brilliant. Thank you!!
OMG, I have been following you for YEARS and have learned so much. I have attended/watched every LIVE and am a member of The Studio. That said I think this is the BEST video you have done. I BEG you to do one for spring. (Actually it ties either your course)
After all these years and all your videos, you still bring a new, fresh outlook to each one. Love, love, love the neutral capsule and your attention to detail is very helpful. Another absolute winner video.
Due to some life circumstances, I'm getting ready to create a wardrobe completely from scratch and I've felt overwhelmed at where to start. I know my style vibe well, but I have limited space and have to space out my purchases over a bit of time. I feel its important to have a plan before I begin shopping and I think your break down of different categories will help me a great deal. I'm looking forward to creating!
I really like this approach to capsule wardrobe building, which I primarily use when I'm packing for travel. I like that it's a conscious effort to build in contrast so even a limited wardrobe is less likely to be boring. Thanks!
Loved this video. Great examples on how to build this wardrobe. Hearing and seeing the thought process was great. Knowing we can substitute items for our capsule is perfect. Thank you! ❤
Saw another person moment about watching you for years, as I have too. This video reminded me of advice you gave a long while ago to look for diverse cuts and silhouettes and I use that constantly. Like you say here, different elements of style. This has been a game changer for travel capsules. So glad I learned this from you!
I got the Alyssa belt in black and silver....love it! Since I am rather #thick at the waist# the thin, minimalist buckle does not attrack the eyes at that level😅. I gave Brave ,leather gift cards to my children Last Christmas . Everyone were please with their purchase.
Thank you so much for this! I've got a trip coming up in January and I've been struggling to narrow down what to bring (happy side effect of loving everything in your closet, I suppose? 😂). The emphasis on shape and color is really a great method for picking versatile pieces, I'm super excited to try it out!

Is it weird that I usually read the comments first? I love to read what everyone thinks/says! And I agree with the community, this was a great video. I'm not paring down my wardrobe, but am creating a travel capsule and applying these same principles for that one. Thanks!
I absolutely love your wardrobe. I find I do wear more neutrals in winter. I do really love pops of colour though, bag or shoes mostly. Thank you, Alyssa. Always helpful. I'm grateful for your guidance ❤
That was an excellent explanation of having diversity in your wardrobe. I am such a repeat buyer all be it in different colours. Love your longer vids 🙂
For lovers of color, like me, this still works. I have denim---light and dark---trousers in navy, dove gray, charcoal gray, burgundy, tan, light olive, and "autumnal" multicolor tweed; dresses and skirts in denim, gray, navy, olive, and burgundy, eggplant; and tops in cream, light gray, deep navy, light blue, chambray, burgundy, quartz pink, eggplant, and sage green. To this, I add scarves (colorful weave or solid) and a handful of printed pieces (blouses and silk dresses) in complementary colors. Everything goes with everything else, and my closet makes me smile.
Love this! This is basically how I pack for trips too, I break my wardrobe down into categories and then try to add 2-3 VERY different options for each category. Super helpful
Great options! And I have been wondering if I need to look for a pair of denim in a different silhouette and wash as most of mine are dark and bootcut, I feel like it would definitely add versatility to my casual wardrobe. Thanks as always for food for thought!
Great video! Thank you for mentioning how to create variety if you prefer one silhouette. I can only wear v-neck knits due to wool sensitivity so working with texture is definitely something I'll look out for. Almost bought a v-neck white cashmere sweater this weekend, but realised it was too similar to my v-neck white cashmere cardigan. Very similar silhouette and texture. So thank you again for mentioning this point!
Thank you for these tips! If you ever want to do a part 2 on this,…I’m curious if you could show us other items in your closet that you love but explain why you didn’t include it in the capsule wardrobe - is it because the colours didn’t work, or was it more about the shape, or fabric? Just thought it might be helpful to see why you choose one item over another. But love your videos and content, thank you so much!
Thank you for all the work you got to in making your videos. Your visuals really help me to understand what you are meaning. I've been starting to experiment with silhouettes.
Best one yet-for me. I have just done my first round of paring down as i transition to Fall. It is still so warm in nyc but it can’t stay warm forever! I have so much duplication because when I feel like something works it must mean I “need” more of it. This method will give me the variety I crave and the comfort of knowing I already have the pieces that will make it work. Thank you!
While I normally enjoy incorporating a bit of colour and print in my wardrobe, I recently packed a carry on in a .black, white, grey and camel colour story. It was amazing to me the flexibility and almost endless combinations. I stayed for a week but had options to last a month!
Hi Alyssa! I love your videos and always learn a lot from them. It was from you that I learned the difference between a button up and a button down shirt. As someone who loves to knit by hand, may I say that the brown sweater is a cable knit but not the heather gray one. The gray sweater looks like a rib knit or maybe even a patent knit. I really loved the brown jacket over the brown sweater together with your brown puzzle bag! Thank you for your ever wonderful styling ideas. Greetings from Germany.
@@AlyssaBeltempo Speaking of the brown cable knit - where is that gorgeous brown knit from?! I know many of these pieces have been in your closet for years, but I love it so much I thought I'd ask!
I love when you break down your wardrobe! My wardrobe is very minimal and I always appreciate how you explain it. When you live in a small space, (for me it is about 200 sq ft!) it is wise to have everything work together in your wardrobe 😊- Michelle
You hit the nail on the head as always, Alyssa. I was just looking at my winter wardrobe and decided that I needed to pare down to a capsule. No numbers, just making sure that I am wearing most of it during the winter. I live in SC, so winter is more of a fashion statement than a bundling issue. BUT, I love sweaters and find that I get too warm. I have put a limit this year to not buy anymore sweaters but am on the look out for some long-sleeved T-shirts instead to round out my closet. Also camisoles under my white button-down. Thanks for your timely advice
Please know you don’t need to apologize for “long” videos full of helpful content. It might do us good to expand our attention spans. My goodness, I look at it as a free class, and my classes were always 45 mins to 1.5 hrs. Brava!
I have tried to build more silhouettes into my wardrobe. I too love jeans, so I have several, and I love leather trousers. For skirts, I tend to go for narrow, straight skirts, but I bought a pair of knee high boots (finally!!) after searching for my best option for two years. Now, I really feel like I need a wider skirt, maybe a jersey and a pleated for nice flow. Your focus on silhouettes is what makes your content really unique in a world of oversized. Also, I purchased “your” belt, and it really is perfect! ❤
A perfect length video! You un-packed soo much useful, helpful capsule info for me! I do so love the belt you designed! I had to re size my other 2 belts to this correct size! Brave is an awesome company to work with: they answered my ??s by calling! That Floored me! The help was spot on!! (May need a 2nd belt!!)
Love this! How do you feel about corduroy? I love corduroy and prefer them over denim in the fall/winter. But I only use 2 silhouettes, flare leg and straight. I also love having the cords in more than one color. My favorite is the burgundy color. And I do love the tan corduroy as well. I love the fact that you don’t just stick to the term “tops”, because I love knit in the fall and winter as well. Great info! Your new hairstyle looks great with all the layers!
Excellent video, thank you. I also don’t restrict jewellery and scarves: some items were gifts, some were inherited, and some earrings I made myself. So I enjoy making regular use of them.
Thank you for this video! 😊 Such a helpful and fresh perspective on creating a capsule wardrobe. Do you have any tips on choosing timeless pieces that work across different seasons? 👗✨
I love your more relaxed look it’s more relatable than your Italy travel looks most of us can’t travel And I love that you can show us that can’t do all the traveling, how to do the 9-5 style!
Great video, Alyssa! Love how you keep it real (boots!) while also being intentional about your choices in each category. By the way, your hair looks great. Also, can you just send me your entire capsule wardrobe lol!
I am afraid to layer or wear chunky cable sweaters as I feel it adds additional weight to me. Something I shall dive into and learn from. Thank you for the inspiration and ideas!
Great informative video with a different take than I’ve seen elsewhere. Very helpful, especially since I have a voluminous wardrobe and struggle with what to cull. It would be lovely to see a rapid fire outfit change with the capsule for a follow up video. Thank you! P.S. Love your collab with Brave.
Fall is my favorite wardrobe season. One sub-category I would add is vests/sleeveless sweaters for layering. Alas, I haven’t been able to wear cozy knitwear due to the unseasonably warm weather.
This was very helpful especially regarding bottoms. I bought some wide leg jeans and trousers, but find that they drag on the ice and snow. I also found that the bulk of the bottom provided too much fabric to tuck into my boots. I wanted to incorporate a lighter color pants or jean and your idea of a cropped jean seem to provide the answer. The cropped jean would come above my ankle and therefore will not drag on the ice and snow. I now have to find the right jeans or trousers. I love your thought process on choosing the different style of bottoms as well to give you variety. I live in Alaska so some of these suggestions are spot on. I’m in the process of downsizing some of my clothing items and this video has helped a whole lot. Thank you!
Merci ! Bon dimanche!
I think it's really interesting what you say about making sure your jeans are all different shapes and colours. I think I may be having trouble with what to wear because I own multiple pairs of the same jeans just in different colours!!!
@AlyssaBeltempo Another great and inspiring video! I'd love to know the details on the gray sweater you are wearing. It's beautiful! Also, highly recommend the convertible backpack. You influenced me to buy one and I adore it! It's gorgeous and versatile. I'm going to get it in other colors!!
I had to chuckle over the shoes. I’m a girl that has 4 pairs of Blundstone boots. All different colors 😂 I COULDN’T DECIDE! Several pairs of Birkenstocks too (I live on the California coast).
So timely for me! Losing weight and I will be thru the smallest size I own soon. Having a few things tailored. Really interested in a capsule wardrobe like this. Buying less but higher quality and some second hand pieces. Live on the island of Madeira so need fewer heavy pieces.
Brilliant brilliant Alyssa! I got so many ideas from this 🥰 I have very small capsuls and this will broaden my capsuls without many more items! Grazie Mille 🙏
I love this concept of choosing most different items to cover various shapes, colors, occasions, etc. I've been thinking about it a lot recently - if I had to downsize my wardrobe say 2x, what 4 pairs (out of total 8 pairs of pants I own) would still cover the most of my looks? Now, if I had to downsize 2x again, what are the 2 pairs that are 'most wanted'? This way I (mentally) came up with a reasonably sized capsule (had to repeat this 4 times with sweaters as I realized I have 16 (some are lighter and not really suitable for winter, but still!!) but I only wear 2). BUT - thanks for normalizing having 4 pairs of jeans just because you like them :) A couple of years ago I was about to move countries on a very short notice and packed my 'whole life' in a suitcase in a very similar manner. Didn't have a chance to test it thoroughly, but the concept really helped packing. And since I was so utilitarian while choosing clothes, I let myself be sentimental with jewelry. 😊
I would also love a “look book” of outfits from the pieces in this video. You’re very inspiring.
Same same ! 💯

This is my plan to get organised
So timely for me! Losing weight and I will be thru the smallest size I own soon. Having a few things tailored. Really interested in a capsule wardrobe like this. Buying less but higher quality and some second hand pieces. Live on the island of Madeira so need fewer heavy pieces.
Really helpful thanks.❤
Look “strips” 🤣. The smile on her face then, priceless. Loved every moment of this video ❤
Very helpful!
Wonderful!
Brilliant brilliant Alyssa! I got so many ideas from this 🥰 I have very small capsuls and this will broaden my capsuls without many more items! Grazie Mille 🙏
Thank you this helpful information!!!
Would love to see all the outfit combinations you could make with the capsule. I loved getting ideas for how to wear my own clothes
BUT - thanks for normalizing having 4 pairs of jeans just because you like them :)
A couple of years ago I was about to move countries on a very short notice and packed my 'whole life' in a suitcase in a very similar manner. Didn't have a chance to test it thoroughly, but the concept really helped packing. And since I was so utilitarian while choosing clothes, I let myself be sentimental with jewelry. 😊
