Jeep Wrangler Grill Mod - JK to JL Conversion

  • In this video I show you how to install a JL grill made by Rock Monster on a Jeep JKU. I’ll also show you how to wire in your own LED turn signals and stop them from blinking too fast and throwing codes in your vehicle.
    I also mod this grill ever farther to allow for extra tire clearance when flexing out Offroad with a stretched wheelbase and/or for clearance with big tires.

    Another great JL mod easily done is the door handles. The kits are like 100 bucks on amazon and bolt right on. Much better than the push button

      Phenomenal. That’s a great idea.

    I just upgraded to the JL grill, and will no longer use the stock blinkers that were on the JK grill since I am using the headlights/foglighrs blinkers. I removed the bulbs from the stock harness but I have an alarm on the dash saying that the bulbs need to be replaced. How can I bypass the harness to remove this alarm?

      So you switched from the factory headlight to an aftermarket. The aftermarket headlight is an LED which pulls different voltage. So the computer thinks there is a sensor problem. The only way that I know of is to get the JScan app. It’s free to download. Add you Jeep in the app, that costs around $20.(or at least it used to). Then pick up a Bluetooth OBD2 reader. That will allow the Jeep to connect to the app. In the app you will be able to switch the “headlights” over to an LED style and it will turn off the dash light.
      You can also use that app as a scanner, run live data to diagnose problems, and do thinks like change the computer settings for tire sizes and gear ratios too.

    Ha, I just got that same grill in a couple of weeks ago. I'm waiting until I get it painted to install it. My headlights have blinkers in them. I didn't think about the parking lights. I may have to install those lights that you installed to get those.

      I just rattle canned mine. I wanted it black anyway. But I like the grill. Works well.

    There are already turn signals on sides of the JK front flares

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They aren’t turn signals….just marker lights that don’t flash. And when you have modified fenders for larger tires they are deleted.

    With a little work, you can do the grill, hood, fenders and flares from a JL on a JK and it looks really good imo

    • @arisenfromflames
      @arisenfromflames 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wonder how difficult it would be to do the JL flares on a JK

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Heck yea! I’m not interested in going that far. Just wanted the grill. And tbh, I didn’t care that it was a JL grill. I just wanted it to not have factory turn signals in it so I could trim it.

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      “Difficult” is a funny way of describing it. Because what is difficult for someone might not be for someone else due to their ability level. But for most people it wouldn’t be easy.

      Haha. I wouldn’t say I’ve done everything to this rig. But this is something I wanted to do for a while. I liked the other grill…but adding the clearance is something I have wanted/needed to do for a while. But I’m back to the CJ build this coming week.

    I did that with my MCE fenders, i just 3 wired it. I used a 3 wire connector then siliconed it. I didnt use any resistors, it works perfect lol. They work as marker lights, plus turn signals(they light up brighter when turn is activated) with the headlights on. When off they still blink with my blinkers AT THE SAME TIME. I have a picture if you want, i just copied what tj jeeps did. Also those crimps suck, in minnesota they rotted my line out. Im sure it works for your state but not Minnesoat lol. Im not trying to say anything bad, i spent a lot of time on google!

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They definitely aren’t the best. They just came in the kit and that is what most people would do to install….so that’s why I did. I’ll change it up at some point for sure.

    I have a Gladiator and wish someone made a grille that looked factory and relocated the turn signals back to the grill.

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would be easy enough to drill out a couple holes and install an led in there. You can make it look good…..but it wouldn’t be factory like a jk.

    Lol. I'm sorry bro, but I'll guess I'll be the first one to have a little fun with this one. Probably easier to just buy a 2018 built JL....😂 At least that way you get the 8 speed transmission, better axles, infotainment, better ride and lighted cup holders...... Lol. Kidding, I love your jeep, and my YJ (that I've owned for 26years) and my built JLUR, and my recently built 98 TJ for my dad (you commented about it on my little channel jeepNdirt). Nice job on the install, but one suggestion. I would solder wires instead of those little connectors. I have aftermarket flat fenders on my JL and used those connectors with all my little add on lights and they just don't hold up even if you tie them up well, They will corrode once wet as well. I kept having to buy the little 3 pack of those lights on Amazon all last year until I simply soldered the wires and at last. No more flickering / lost connections. Just food for thought. Nice job and continue to enjoy your channel.

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for that. To be honest, to e jk is the best jeep to modify in an extreme way in my opinion. Plus I’m already on one tons and 3 link long arms. So redoing all that on a new jeep….the. To only have to deal with all the electronics that are even worse than the jk…nah. I didn’t do this for the look of being newer. Anyone who knows Jeeps knows it isn’t. I did it so I could have a grill without a turn signal in the factory position and notch the grill for tire clearance.

      @WarPaintOffroad  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So I put a test light in each wire. It told me which wire did what. Put the test light in a wire and the. Turn on the turn signal on that side for example. If the light in the test light isn’t flashing….try another wire until it is. The. You know that is the turn signal wire.

    • @WarPaintOffroad
      @WarPaintOffroad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I say it at the end of the video. But some people just want the upgraded grill. I did it for clearance so when I flex my tires don’t rub the grill when I’m flex and turning. Depending on the amount of front axle stretch you have and the tire size that can be an issue.
