How does one become a firearm design engineer or a weapon system design engineer? I am a Btech in mechanical engineering and I want to be a design engineer in a defense firm. Is it compulsory to do a masters degree?

I don't think it is compulsory to do a master's degree. I would identify the specific companies you hope to apply to and start watching for what they require. I've worked for 2 defense contractors, and have friends at others, and none of us have master's degrees. However, none of us work(ed) for firearm or weapon system specific companies.
