    What industry was this in--if you don't mind me asking--? I work in QE for aerospace and one thing I don't like about the job is that our role in the process stops with identifying the defect. We don't get to determine the corrective action/disposition (UAI/Rework/Scrap, etc.). We pass it off to another department that determines that. I'm trying to determine if that's just how things are in aerospace, or if it's just my company (or just the facility I work at, even).

    • @JD-qf8ul
      @JD-qf8ul 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      May be similar in many industries, since corrective action, either design or process changes, costs time and money, and potentially affects the bottom line.

      This was at a diesel engine manufacturer. I've found that the way a role is split tends to depend on company size more than anything. The smaller the company, the more hats one person wears. The bigger the company, the smaller the role each individual will hold.

      Depends on the companies quality system. I am also a QE for aerospace industry at smaller company, and I sometimes have all of these responsibilities but work with engineering sometimes when a change is needed

    Hi. At the end (2:59) you mention the 80-20 and the Pareto Charts, isn't it the same?

    • @jobtalk9793
      @jobtalk9793  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pareto is the method of charting commonly used to visualize the 80:20 occurrence. Pareto Charts are bar charts with the x-axis sorted by occurrence rate from highest to lowest. 80:20 refers to the naturally occurring split commonly seen where 80% of a problem comes from the top 20% of the causes.

      @@Ari_Laine I'm curious to get some of your insight, even though your comment is over a year old lol. If you did get into Quality Engineering, did you have a variety of majors in that field? The reason I am asking is because I'm a Physics major and I minored in Applied Math and I'm trying to become a Quality Engineer and I'm just trying to find out if you have worked with Physics majors that you know of who have branched out into that field? Also, what would be the expectations or qualifications a company would look for in a Quality Engineer?
