In the original there is a missable hidden block in the castle. In the remake they added some convenient toads later to reach it, if you fail your first attempt.
Those Toads are there in the original, but there's an invisible wall preventing the player from using them to jump up there. I, for one, am happy they changed that so it's no longer possible to end the game with 38/39 hidden chests forever just because you didn't know to jump on Toad's head and hop up there. What makes it worse is that players are on average not visiting all the places before going to the Castle, so wouldn't have met the Hidden Chest tutorial Toad lady under the item shop either.

I may be crazy but I feel like several sound effects from Mario’s pantomime are missing. Like in the original i am pretty sure there was a sound effect when he shook his head “yes” and he made growling noises when he was playing with Gaz using the Bowser doll. Not huge omissions, but they added charm to the silent protagonist trope.
Oddly enough, I'm pretty sure they added the "swish" sound effect when transforming, I could have sworn it was silent before. Of course, I could be wrong, I'd need to watch them back to back.
I never played the SNES version because I thought it would be too difficult to understand like Mario is Missing. So I just played Paper Mario on the GameCube instead.
A change that I hadn't seen talked about -- the way to get to the casino has been tweaked. In the original, you had to jump three times in that pipe area to show the path, but there was no confirmation sound, so it was extremely difficult to find. However, in the Switch version there's a chime that's played that clues you in.
I noticed a lot of name changes, like the first boss was Mack in the original and Claymorton on switch. Or Mallow has the move Psychopath changed to Thought Peek.
The worst change in my opinion was renaming "Frogfucious" into "Frog Sage". It was obviously a political choice and if you're going to do that, then at least come up with another creative name instead of "placeholder name Alpha XX-5" which is what it felt like. Probably because they wanted the names to match Bowyer, for the sake of following the weapons theme. I've always assumed that Yardovich involved some sort of exotic weapon, but Mack the Knife is an extremely dated reference in this day and age, so changing it isn't the worst thing ever.

"Attack the chain" rather than "aim for the chain" loses that little near-rhyme, "he knows about Action Commands" isn't as funny-sounding as "he knows about timed hits"... it's probably just my bias for the original, but I still miss them. The first hidden chest is actually able to be grabbed later on if missed according to a post in a magazine done before the game came out if I’m not mistaken?

Changing stuff for the sake of consistency. I love Bowser's modern sprite, but I was hoping for a 3D model of the old one: darker, grimmer, sharper teeth, bigger shell/smaller body. Modern Bowser is a buffoon, old Bowser was intimidating. This is a minor jab. Peach and Yoshi however? Hate 'em.

I never understood why Nintendo changed Princess Toadstool to Peach in the 90's. Toadstool is a mushroom, which is synonymous with the franchise. Peach is a fruit.
They did it to make it more cohesive with Japan, wherein she was always known as Princess Peach (like how Dr. Robotnik was always known as Eggman in Japan). Though I wish they kept it like how Mario 64 portrayed it, where Princess Toadstool was her title but Peach was her first name.
She's named after the colour pink, not the fruit. In Japanese Momo means both peach and pink. The localizers renamed her because as you say, it's off theme.

It was great for the remake to have actual cut scenes, unlike the original version.
The original did have cutscenes-
Tonnes of differences! Cant wait for all the vids. :)
first time seeing your channel, just commenting to say that I loved that logo intro, nice job.
Mario's PipeHouse is where Peach goes to get piped.
I'll take the Triforce of Courage,
The Triforce of Courage,
The Triforce of Courage,
To protect me!
Thanks this is totally what I wanted! Thank you so much!
I noticed a lot of name changes, like the first boss was Mack in the original and Claymorton on switch. Or Mallow has the move Psychopath changed to Thought Peek.
I was waiting for a video like this
The worst change in my opinion was renaming "Frogfucious" into "Frog Sage". It was obviously a political choice and if you're going to do that, then at least come up with another creative name instead of "placeholder name Alpha XX-5" which is what it felt like. I kept thinking I was doing something wrong and returning him his pie or doing something else would actually name him. The Bruce Lee joke removal I also don't understand, maybe it's to do with marketing rights.
Who cares
@@WrathMania32 The fact you even bothered to reply says you do.
Frogfucious is a strange one. I always thought that was his name, there wasn't any notion that it was offensive to any degree when I was a kid. I personally thought of him as a Shaman, which I guess is offensive for appropriating tribe religions(?) or native Americans(?)
I mean, Disney appropriates culture on the daily even today, so what's the harm here? I don't recall a storm of angry representatives calling out Nintendo for it.
@@scrittleI completely agree, you've explained yourself much more articulately than the person who wrote the two word reply without giving any details.
If you beat all post game boss and beat the final boss again, all previously post game boss will be in the ending video at different place, even Culex 😄
Spoiler Alert
In the SNES version, the boss you fight in the Mushroom Kingdom is named Mack and the boss you fight in Seaside Town is called Yaridovich
In the remake, Mack is now known as Claymorton while Yaridovich is now known as Speardovich.
.....for some reason.
Probably because they wanted the names to match Bowyer, for the sake of following the weapons theme. I've always assumed that Yardovich involved some sort of exotic weapon, but Mack the Knife is an extremely dated reference in this day and age, so changing it isn't the worst thing ever.
@@VenthVaetyre Yaridovich is named after a yari, or a type of Japanese spear. I’m guessing the original translation team didn’t know that and thought that was just his name because it sounded cool, so they kept it in the US version
@@TheDerpyDolphin I remember that because in Bleach, Gin's Bankai is called Kamishini no Yari with means God Killing Spear.
@@VenthVaetyre Wasn't there also something to do with Bobby Darrin's estate? Or am I thinking of Mac Tonight?
@@Lynn17 I honestly wouldn't know, as it isn't a topic I've done all that much research on, just that its an extremely dated reference that I haven't heard of in decades.
So with the name changes, is it now "Found Peach's ???"
Yes.
@@merimkastrat5846 Well, that answers that.
And they kept the whole "Booster and Bowser kissing Mario scene"
@@SoraFan23also yes. But now it is animated.
@@antoniodanielsantos4511 Which makes it even better and funny.
I don't disagree with any of the changes I love it! Thank you for the video!
And these are just from the start of the game , this has the making of several parts.
How about the Missable frog coins was fix in the remake.
Square gave a hand on this.... Now we want the same with Chrono trigger!
Frog and alfador approve!
In octopath graphics
@@JohnnyLt yes! It would be legendary!
The original still holds up really well, what we really need is a sequel of a similar style.
@@scrittle I want a direct sequel to Chrono trigger as well as a flashy remake. love the game.
the dream team truly made some gaming magic
I don't know why, but some of those dialogue changes, no matter how small, feel just a little less magical. "Attack the chain" rather than "aim for the chain" loses that little near-rhyme, "he knows about Action Commands" isn't as funny-sounding as "he knows about timed hits"... it's probably just my bias for the original, but I still miss them.
Out of curiosity, is that first hidden item you need to jump on Toad for still missable?
The first hidden chest is actually able to be grabbed later on if missed according to a post in a magazine done before the game came out if I’m not mistaken?
They added a toad that hangs around that spot after you beat Claymorton iirc.
Hundreds of little changes just sucked all the soul out of this remake.
I knew it was gonna be bad when I saw they censored the dialog with the toad kid who runs around in circles. Get the fuck out of here with that sidekick shit. And take the Frog Sage and Claymorton with you.
@@kochiyama sucked all the soul out? bruh this is probably one of the most faithful remakes ever made
@@jclkaytwo I'm sure it seems that way to those of you without an inner monologue.
Man, sometimes I feel like Martinet was the last one actually calling him 'Super Mario.' like that's kind of important as a character name. for one thing, you can't trademark Mario.
1:15 aaand i'm done caring about this game. god i miss being able to not be pissed off at all times.
I have a feeling they gave up on spoiler avoidance since the original's so old and famous already.
Bowser is also shown in a different scenario during his presentation. You didn't make a point out of it because it wasn't a "damsel in distress"?
Because men are still allowed to be damsels in distress obviously.
THIS IS SO MUCH FUN! AWESOME! I loved SNES Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars!
Always love your content ❤
I really love the upgraded version but the original seems just a tad funnier maybe because of the limited movements and facial details.
In the remake, you can still press Down on the control stick or the D Pad to enter a pipe.
An Earthbound remake or sequel would be nice
Why they rename PipeHouse? Cuz u know pipe is what he's laying when the princess is over there. Maybe even toad too
Good video man ❤😊
They got rid of pop culture references in the game for sure. No more mention of Bruce Lee during the segment when Mario was about to fight Bowyer. And Frogfucious was changed to Frog Sage.
Frogfucius is a pop culture reference?
@@panwasacz2733Frogfucious is a play on the philosopher Confucius. Still a reference, if not a pop culture one.

idk man Chompdelier rolls off the tongue better
this is how Remakes should be done.
minor changes and still keeping what made the game so amazing intact.
Nintendo outdone them self with this one, i hope they do this for other classic games.
(in fact i am also hoping they will finally make a sequel to this series, there is so much potential with this story telling and game play.)
They did make a sequel, Paper Mario! And later the Mario & Luigi games. Two bad those series are either dead or fallen from grace. Hopefully with this and the TTYD remake Nintendo sees we want a new Mario RPG game and will make one for their next console
@TheDerpyDolphin paper mario is not a sequel to super mario rpg, do you know what "sequel" even means?
@@pyroflare7774 It was literally designed to be a sequel. The unused “Super Mario RPG 2” title even comes up in unused beta/debug areas. The only reason why it got renamed is because of disagreements with Square, who wasn’t working on it
@@TheDerpyDolphinyou misspelled spiritual successor. They are not the same thing
@@pyroflare7774It was literally made to be a sequel though, the game used to be called Super Mario RPG 2 but got changed into its own thing later in development (probably for being too different to the first game)
You have to appreciate Mario's taste in structure design
Underrated channel
Love how intuitive and well designed the original game was, definitely understand why they had to add prompts for everything, even timed hits. Wouldn't trust the nowadays audience the same either haha
Very well done!🌪
Bring back princess TOADSTOOL!
I think I'm experiencing a mandela effect, because I swore it was always Mario House not Pipe House.
It was until Mario 64 the name Peach was established for the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, before Mario 64 she was know as Princess Toadstool.
I loved pipe house, really wish they kept that name
there's also "physics" changes in the valentina fight lol
Mario's Pipe House
I got the SNES version for my 8th birthday and it was and has been for 27 years one of my top 3 favorite games of all time. As someone who never thought this day would come, I’d say that overall the remake is adequate - but the things they DID change are very subtly disappointing. It’s like meeting your hero in person but when you go to shake his hand it’s wet for some reason.
What's an example? I personally have found most quality of life changes to be great
@@toddruthemeyer4622In terms of function/features, everything is an upgrade for sure. But I have played this game so many times that I know every dialogue word for word and I think when something is different, it just messes with the nostalgia. It’s honestly subtle enough that I’m probably the only one who cares.
Hate 'em.
@@scrittleI wasn’t super clear in my original comment - the only stuff I mind is dialogue, really. Subtle changes to the text on screen that trips my brain up because I know them word for word in the original.
You were clear enough, you brought up a nitpick and I brought up mine.
Found Peach’s ???
I like the remake. Hopefully this game made good sale so we can potentially get either a sequel or remake of the Mario and Luigi series.
Two of the Mario & Luigi games were already remade, however the developer has gone out of business.
Can't wait for more $50 games that I've already played
The original was groundbreaking in 1996 but the remake is so beautiful.
I really was bothered that they changed Mack's name. Like come on there was nothing wrong with it.
Same. But I wonder if they had to tiptoe tf around copyright and whatnot, there's probably a technical reason for the change from the production side of it all. I'm just happy we got it, even if his new name is Claymorton, he'll always be Mack to me!
@@Dragan3rd and Speardivich will always be Yaridovich to me.
Why is it a bouncing knife when the characters are clearly on pogo-sticks ?
The second item about peach, the only thing that changed was the opening credits. After that you just show normal stuff from the game that didnt change. Unless I missed something.
dats a cool intro
They removed the forest maze Bruce lee joke :(😢
I started to realize that shysters is in super Nintendo and Shymore is in the remake. Also their special move drain in super Nintendo and hot shot was in the remake. Also super Nintendo game can't block any special while remake can block inly single special attacks.
It took me awhile to adjust to the hyper smooth animation of the remake, but seeing them side by side, I had forgotten how rough the original game looks on modern screens. The remake is far and away the superior game.
Ah, so Nintendo decided to hold our hand. Awesome smh
Part 2 please
Post-order cancelled. Can’t play a game where toads don’t rotate. Thanks Miyamoto!
Who do you think you are? Bruce Lee?
They should've change Bruce Lee to Captain Falcon or Little Mac.
@@Cliffordlonghead EXACTLY my thought but Super Macho Man
Pipehouse sounds like something the migos would write about
Where`s the Peach`s panties easter egg? hahahaha
Still there.
It’s unchanged from the original, so it wouldn’t be considered a difference.
You think she keeps her _panties_ under her chair cushion? Poor naïve soul.
Quality of life improvements.
They did leave Princess's ??? In the game... I'm surprised they didn't remove that. Lol.
I would watch this but I wanna play the game first
Luckily it only covers really early game stuff.
Then why are you here?
As a grown man with a dirty mind, pipe house is way better
If they can bring back the Toad Minister, than they can bring back Toadsworth.
They should've replaced him with Toadsworth, since that's what Toadsworth is in later games.
@@JASpiring Had no idea but that makes sense - thank you!
