Laudato Si Ad Astra. Praised be to the stars. That Shakespeare quote from Romeo and Juliet is inscribed on the urn sent to the moon, containing part of Eugene Shoemaker's ashes. It was voiced by Tuomas' wife, Johanna Kurkela.
Shoemaker is also known as the father of planetary science from his many discoveries. Heavily respected in the industry. He always wanted to be an astronaut and go to the moon but had a condition that stopped him. After he died, NASA sent some of his Ashes to the moon with the quote from Shakespeare written on the Urn. They crashed the craft into the surface, making his wish come true and him the only human buried on another planet.
Tuomas, pity we can’t do shoemaker 😢live. Floor, Laudato, just watch this space. Floor, ‘going operatic’ just has to be one of the Most goose bumpy, tear inducing, hair tingly experiences a person can encounter.
I thought I knew what NW and Floor were capable of. Then is album was released. I still have no clue where their limits are. This album is a masterpiece ❤ Shoemaker is one of my favorites 🙏🏻
LIVE, Nightwish first thought this song could not be performed live, but then they did it and it is one of the best moments you ever experience in a show; I watched it LIVE in Bamberg / Germany ...just amazing. I recommend you check the Hellfest 2022 version, it is just breath taking, great production and some awesome pics from Floor when she sings the operatic part. Enjoy it. 🐺🤘
I had the chance to see this epic song performed live, at the Deichbrand festival 2022 in Germany. Floor was a mere 15 meters away from me on the stage and sang directly to my soul. That moment will forever stay in my heart. Especially the "Laudatio Si. Ad Astra" (Praise Be. To The Stars).
In my opinion, the final part is the most beautiful thing Nightwish has ever done. This shows how big Floor's trust in Tuomas is. She knows exactly when Tuomas has written such a difficult number for her that she can really master it. So she goes out and just does it!
Yeah, Also Tuomas trust in Floor so much. He has said that in this song he really challenges Floor and that Floor gets to use his full capacity for once.😊😁😆. I love the cohesiveness of the whole band and the fact that Tuomas believes in everyone just like the rest of the band believes in him. Nightwish is incredible
Tuomas must give thanks every day for his request ‘you have 48 hours to learn the set’, and to Floor’s reply ‘yes’. Tarja was exceptional, Annette so very much better than she is often regarded, but, Floor is the full package. Tuomas can go anywhere knowing that Floor will bring his work to life.
@@christinaalgate4899Yes, that's where I've been looking, but not finding. Right now it feels like i'm looking for Atlantis, it's supposed to be real, but nobody can tell you where it is.
There are some really nice live performance videos of this song, and watching a huge metal audience thrown into stunned silence gives me chills every time I see it happen. Thanks!
I love this song, probably my favourite on the album and Floor's performance at the end is one of the best moments of her singing career - it is magical.
Don't know if you know, but there is more to the story about Shoemaker that make this song even more astonishing... One example is that part of Shoemaker ashes was sent to the moon, making him the only person buried on the moon. Keep that in mind as you listen and read the lyrics again.
Floor kills this live every time, but my favorite I have seen was at Hellfest 2022 completely awing. She is glowing in the sun when she delivers this last part. Almost out of body experience, not sure if you know this or not that quote from Shakespeare from Romeo and Juliet was spoken by Tuomas' wife and was on his urn that was sent to the moon. Making him the first human buried on the moon.
The small urn that carried some of Shoemaker's ashes to the moon was inscribed with that quote from Romeo and Juliet. In the clip of Floor you played she mentioned that she was really challenged in this album.. At one point she asked Tuomas when she was supposed to breathe. He said something like, "You'll figure it out."
🇫🇮❤this channel. The entire "Human. :II: Nature." album is a stellar masterpiece, but my favorite song on it is "Procession" with Floor's really emotional vocals that bring tears to ones eyes & amazing lyrics that challenge one intellectually. P.S. They had already recorded this song and taken the recording to be mixed & mastered, but Floor felt that something was missing from the operatic part. So she decided to record the vocals one more time, but this time she did it in her own small studio at home using an audio track that also had the choir in it, and the rest is history.
You should check out the Hellfest performance of this song guys, it's amazing - Diechbrand is also good but the full Metal crowd at Hellfest swing it for me. Shoemaker is the founder of planetary science and after his death in a car accident NASA sent his ashes to the moon - how cool is that 🤘
Yes, 50 minutes into the concert recording. th-cam.com/video/pYIX1Jyb64E/w-d-xo.html Much better than the studio version (as per usual) and the camera work is stunning!
@EnterTheChronic: This song is perhaps one of my favorites I've ever heard done. To clarify, Dr. Eugene Shoemaker was an astrophysicist and geologist who established the fact that asteroids and meteors cause craters. He, his wife, and a third person discovered the comet Shoemaker--Levy-9 before it crashed into Jupiter. During his life, he had always wanted to go into space, but could not, due to being diagnosed with Addison's Disease, which was found via a preliminary health screening by NASA. Sadly, Dr. Shoemaker was in a car accident in 1997 in Australia, while he was working. He died shortly thereafter. Despite this, his wife, before her passing only a couple of years ago, did hear this song as a tribute to her husband, and from what I understand, she was tickled pink by the thoughtfulness of Tuomas, Floor, and the band. The Shakespearean quote, read by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife, is the quote engraved on the urn containing the ashes of Dr. Shoemaker when a lunar prospecting probe shot it to the moon's South Pole. He is the only human to be buried on a celestial body outside of Earth.
This is so incredibly beautiful. I believe he didn’t think they could do this live. Floor made it possible. She is amazing. It’s not really the right word for this.
The instrument you hear at the beginning is the Hammered Dulcimer, google that! Looks like a typical Troy thing to me, but could also be keyboard generated by Tuomas🐰 My favorite part of this video: the last seconds where you see an earthset, followed by a sunset, seen from Shoemaker’s resting place in the crater named after him.
Ah, The Greatest Show On Earth snip! Good bit with the gooogling. :) 1994 Shoemaker/Levy 9 hitting Jupiter. He was researching craters on Earth. The Moon is tidally locked with Earth, so the same side always faces us (almost, there is a little bit of a wobble). The difference we see is the angle of the sunlight (our own Star). From the impact site, where some of his ashes were scattered, in his own Crater, the Earth would appear permanently fixed in the black sky (apart from the wobble). Ad Astra, sounds like a Male Choir Gregorian chant... OMG, Stunning, Earth shattering. Yes she can do it LIVE! Ad Astra is used to close the show (on recent concerts). It's just... no words left.
This song was my favourite song from the Human Nature album immediately. I absolutely love where Nightwish shifted (or rather say evolved) with this album.... I can't wait to next album being released!
My favourite from the album. I honestly wasn't sure if they'd be able to pull this off live. How wrong I was!! There are some killer live versions of Shoemaker.
