For the issue you had at 4:18 you can weld objects of the same creation together while said creation is on the lift. this should help for whenever you use barring in the future. just a tip, I think the way you did it was cooler.
@@ReidCaptain In the best one (which i don't know the name) you need to download the gears from the workshop once you have the mod. So pay attention to the description.
Since the survival update most mods have been broken. Majority of gear mods can be very glitchy too. Pipe pieces is about as close as you might get. Quick edit: use the thicc pipes not the noodle pipes
@@ReidCaptain It's more of a racing game than a building game. It has a pretty in depth track builder, but from what I understand all the objects are fixed in place.
Some small tips: 1. "Generator pipes" look like thick pipes but actually are quite a lot smaller, so if you'll need smaller hitbox you can use these 2. Talking about gears, sm while having quite small blocks, works best with big objects in that regard
Instead of expanding the pistons you could just weld them directly to the other crankshaft. Place a bearing on opposite sides of a block, put blocks on the bearings, put another block on the side of one of the blocks you just placed, place a block on the piston and weld that block to the other block. ⬛️l⬛️l⬛️ ⬛️ ↔️ ⬛️
so if you wanna weld/connect 2 parts together you need to place your entire creation on a lift. only then you can connect the part you wanna connect together
Seeing a piston engine, this is an old school engine, nowadays we use the actual pistons to create engines, smaller, more power, more reliable, more stable. But it's neat to see a thruster engine nowadays
There’s a mod on the workshop that adds actual gears that work… would love to see you remake this with that mod. I think it can also solve the whole piston thing to spin wheels too
Bro, I dunno how to tell you this, but realistic cars don’t have the engine extending half the width of the chassis out the left side attached to a fifth wheel.
i love to make piston engines powered by spud guns, and it works pretty well, managed to build a V8 with a shifting gearbox powering a car (also made an I4 engine, powered by 4 spud guns on each cylinder and managed to make a car with a clutch out of it too)
Piston engines do exist, although I can't consider them to be realistic in this case, as they both push and PULL. still, nice job, and I hope for more scrap mechanic content soon, like maybe attempting Challenge mode...
If you put the creation on a lift you can weld "child entities" together, so you don't need to slot pins in to rotate. You may also have less problems of friction with pipes (not really 100% sure though) Since scrap mechanic did an update that messed up friction between blocks
Instead of the wheel to the side, just use a gear using small pipes, they don’t resist much and the amount of power on your engine can be increased with the thrusters
The moment you got it sorta working, but the engine wasn't producing enough power, I thought "You need to put a gearbox in!" Engines almost always gotta be moving faster than the wheels they're connected to, after all. :3 But yea, gears in the stock game aren't very good.
It's interesting to see how you solve problems your own way. There are usually easier/more efficient options people figured out already but doing things your own way can be interesting too. I made a helicopter in Scrap Mechanic that uses a "realistic engine" and a working swashplate once with the wings mod and it works very well.
@@enerjaz6871 I don't want to publish it since I thought about uploading it once I feel like improving it aesthetically. I sent you a friend request on steam, so I could show it to you in game.
Advice - make the camshaft bigger for higher torque. Its 3 blocks big now, if it was 5, that would make a huge difference. Could even go for 7. Thrusters shine not at torque, but at speed, so, using them in a system which expects less torque out of them, will make the system much better
Advice, watch some videos of KAN gaming he bulit some ,,piston engines" in the past you might learn some usefull stuff from him or Just Type in the scrap mechanic workshop piston engine.
Idk why it triggers me so much when he gives like SUSpension a name like spring, cuz i play scrap like 1h per day so yeah. EDIT: my brain still doesnt like the physics of sm
I already commented on the last video about this, but does anyone remember the game Principia? Reid's videos really remind me of the game and I would love to see what he would be able to do with it, but it sadly got shut down due to financial reasons :( Also, keep up the great content, man!
Hi.i think is very heavy and engine work hard to move it Use wood or plastic etc next time And in SM you have alot of way to build free energy small engine. Some example is wedge and pipe or piston engine or other glitch power engine I dont remember all of them but they are too many.
Piston engine: exists* What the guy made is effectively a piston engine, rotating the axis and transfers rotation to wheels, still can't figure out myself how do you turn the wheels, seems difficult af
you should try the game "instruments of destruction"! it's a lot like besiege, but with a cleaner aesthetic and new mechanics like gravity wells and magnets!
your engine design wasn't very good. ideally it would be much bigger although then its harder to put in a car which was already a neigh impossible task.
Hey I have an idea for a Carvel looking normal it’s a realistic drivetrain using the engines that are already in the game so it’s not very big but has a realistic drivetrain and suspension I’m not gonna lie I search for realistic drive train and this is what showed up so that’s why I recommend that
im still trying to make a vw beetle chassis and suspension, its not going too well, any advice? maybe even an idea for ya to take...cus i can't get it right
you can make this much much much better by using the aforementioned pistons as the actual pistons that move to make the crankshaft spin instead of using thrusters
i remember making a car with en engine including crankshaft and pistons. a drive shaft. a differential and realistic stearing and realistic suspension in the same space that he used just for his engine
adding controller to seat allows to use it as w and s converter stop reinventing wheel. it is pain to watch. use controller instead of engine and bearing to convert ad stearing
I think you might have less friction problems if you use pipe pieces, since scrap mechanic hates cube blocks being in contact with eachother
I'm glad that I am not the only one who thought this.
Thr next time he'll make an engine he should do this, less unpredictable physics for thr cause of tedious placing
Didn't think of it but that's a good idea

i like how he always does the most obscure things in the simplest of games
Besiege and scrap mechanic are engineering games, they are NOT the simplest of games.
In scrap mechanic people make engines a lot better than he dose with like gear boxes and stuff people also make v engines and suspension and stuff
for people who don’t know what they mean by obscure: in this case they mean that Reid always does complex stuff inside of simple games.
so if you wanna weld/connect 2 parts together you need to place your entire creation on a lift. only then you can connect the part you wanna connect together
Sick, someone who actually plays Scrap mechanic in 2022!
What about Moonbo, Scrapman, Durf, kAN (sometimes),Kosmonaut (sometimes), Lion Heart Blue, and Dr. Pixel Plays?

yes
You can use suspensions they also have no collision for the engine also it is easier to make the wheels go gears are actually kinda better
You dont need an engine for steering, if you just connect a seat directly to a bearing it will act as steering when you press A and D in the seat.
That's... not realistic, which was his objective
You can still attach it to a rack and pinion to that for maximum realism.
"Really chaotic and unpredictable" is like Scrap Mechanic's tag line.
very cool

Instead of the wheel to the side, just use a gear using small pipes, they don’t resist much and the amount of power on your engine can be increased with the thrusters

Take a step into piston engines. There are also alternatives for gears for the axel linkage and clutches are relatively easy
Wouldn't a clutch work much better? Make a piston push 2 wheels against each other flat on

couldn't he just weld the pieces together for the baring and not have to use pistons?

If you put a creation on a lift, you can weld between movable blocks
you can have the piston welded on either side of the bering. none of the piston has colision so it is a realy good connection
