I love how the fan film has a better cast than the actual film
I only watched some critics of the game series before, never even played them. But when I saw Tom Holland on the poster front I was just like "ah-uh not gonna watch it".

@@SD_188 Movie is out now and he was right. This was leagues better. Someone said the same thing to me back when they announced Metal Gear Survive. I knew it was going to be garbage and said so before release and got shit for judging it before it came out. Any real fan of something can tell when something is made with no thought or respect given to the original work.
Sony thought they could cash in on Holland's huge success with the marvel films but he's just too young. It doesn't help that they Frankenstein'd the plots from the games into some weird amalgamation that just didn't work.
There is so much to pull inspiration from in history for treasure-based adventure plots, but they chose to rip off the games AND this short instead of telling a unique story. What makes Uncharted is the wit, humor, and characters. Not the plot from the games. They didn't need to do what they did. If they had captured the essence of the dialogue style and characters, the actual treasure plot wouldn't have mattered all too much.
Sony screwed up their casting. BIG time. And the writing was nothing like the games. The story was a cheap imitation of everything Uncharted, and even the music wasn't great. The dialogue was terrible, the jokes were awful (a few got some chuckles, but most of the humor fell flat), and the only decent qualities were the set pieces. But considering Uncharted set pieces are so iconic, I'd say it's a low bar to nail those when you have the kind of budget Sony is backing.
Overall, the movie was terrible, and the guy was right. And not just in hindsight. He and nearly all other fans KNEW the Sony film was going to be awful.
This 15 minute short movie is 10 times better than the 2 hour movie with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

Absolutely! No 10 times better.. Or rather; a 1000 times better.. The official film is an insult to good taste, the essence of games and Nate's overwhelming charisma. Once again Hollywood proved that money is not synonymous with good product. This short fan is an entertainment marvel. Thank you guys for giving us this JEWEL in capital letters, Thanks 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The media likes to push actors and actresses that are popular. People like Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet and (not now but at the time) Jennifer Lawrence.
Because Tom Holland is popular due to Spider-Man. The Spider-Man movies and the Uncharted movie is under Sony, so it works out for them. Similarly how there's a "Disney family" where actors/actresses in a Marvel movie will sometimes show up in a Disney movie.
For example, Robert Downey Jr is Tony Stark/Iron Man in Marvel movies, and he was in Dolittle. Tom Holland is in Spider-Man (Sony), Marvel movies (Civil War, Infinity War, etc) and Onward (Disney).

They had to go with Tom due to his success in Marvel the last few years, but totally wrong part for him. If it was like 8-10 years ago I think Nathan Fillion and Sam Elliot would make a great casting pair.

Nathan Fillion is a dedicated actor. He actually knows the story, Nolan Norths speech cues, Nathans fighting style, an actual Game perspective. He did an amazing job and I seriously hope this makes it onto the big screen with a bigger budget

Drake is heavily based on Nathan's Firefly character Mal, so i'd say Nolan was the one that knew and copied Fillion's style, not the other way around. They even hired Firefly's composer for Uncharted.
I was half expecting to cringe into myself but that was literally perfect as an Uncharted film and a 15 minute piece of action comedy.

"Fan-Made" also doesn't mean they don't get paid.
Also "Amateur" doesn't mean they don't get paid either.
"Fan Made" means just that it wasn't done by the Official Studio that owns the Rights to the Title/Characters/Projects (in this situation - it wasn't done by SONY, so it's "Fan-Made")
In fact, most of the Fan-Films and Fan-Series have actors that are well paid for their role in these Projects.
Amateur means that it wasn't done by a Proffesionalist that's been doing it for Years and has a Background of known titles (for example Jon Favreau is a Proffesionalist).
For example:
"Hazbin Hotel".
The Authoress hired actual Voice Actors (like Stamper) and other Animators/Artists to help her with the Project.
They are normally paid for their work.
@ickisistheshitz I think Nathan Fillion put money into the project, I read in an article that the director is from Toronto and they teamed up to make this. Also Fillion has expressed that he would love to play Drake in a film so that makes him a fan

Nathan Fillion doesn't really do movies, other than minor side roles with little screen time. I think the only movie he's been the lead in was Serenity and that's cause it was a follow up to Firefly. As much as I would love him in a full length Uncharted movie, he would likely turn it down.
@@bingo5387 That's not what I heard. Among other things he had signed up for the casting of the film "Green Lantern". Ryan Reynolds was accepted and the movie flopped. I think basically he is not averse to movies, especially since he had the leading role in the movie "Slither" besides Serenity.
@@maganius Ok, well maybe hollywood just doesn't like him or something, he's definitely hasn't been the lead in anything big. After making that comment I saw that he's actually a huge fan of the games, which is why he did the fan film, so he probably would do it if asked and was available. The problem is that for the last many many years, he's been the lead on one show or another that he probably has contracts with, so he can't really be in any movies if it's going to take months of filming and gets in the way of the shows schedule.

My guess its most likely scheduling, Tv shows are constant and most likely dont leave much time for dedicated shootings like those in movies. He is in the new suicide squad though

Sony needs to learn from this masterpiece. Casting the right actor rather than a popular actor is key to depicting characters that many cherish. And Nathan fillion is not only a fantastic actor but fits Nathan drake perfectly in every way.
15 minutes of this captured better the essence of Uncharted than the Sony Movie. I thought was CGI when I saw the face of Nathan Fillion at the first look, but no.
How they make the camera changed to a 3rd person perspective like the videogame, and the slow motion superman punch like the videogame. Such a pretty and good work you did here guys. It's a short film and it's wrong to compare it with a feature but i would be lying if I said that i didn't enjoy it much more than any of those other films
I believe it's because the hollywood movies needs to sell itself to more than just the fans of the game, and thus attempts to become a more generic action/adventure movie that appeals to more than just the gamers

I agree with you on the casting,dialogue and cinematography but Uncharted is also known for its action. And Unfortunately if Nathan Fillion was 10 years younger he could possibly do the kind of crazy stunts they do in the game.

The moment he jumped out the window and slowly got up. The director snapped and gave me all the camera angles from the game. I loved it!

Anyone else notice this game sticks to the canon it came out after uncharted 4 but he still has the ring this confused me at first but then during the interigation he only mentions shambala and el dorado (as well as the prequel game on vita of which i cant remember the name of) proving that this short is set in between uncharted 2 and 3 its a small detail but it shows how this short was trully a passion project and all involved did it because they wanted to make a true cinema representation of the uncharted franchise

i am sure it seems that i am commenting on 4 month old comment but, Nathan drake isn't a ripped guy, or masculine guy, nor so fat... (Even they made obese drake model for a purpose). He is just a regular guy who looks the same as Indiana jones... So basically tom holland has no relation to Nathan drake but, nathan fillion perfectly fit to character.

My biggest issue is that Mark Wahlberg is playing himself as always. Not even an attempt to get in character for Sully. This video portrays the characters just like the games. The charm, the humor. Amazing work!

A little awkward for a movie, but as a one off nod towards the gamers I guess it could be fine. As a demo/pilot this was ok I guess, hope they get the funding and go-ahead for a movie or a tv show.
It is a weird thing to watch for ordinary viewers but we as gamers would like to see it. :P
The voice, the looks, the mannerisms, the charisma… Nathan Filian has got all of it, he would be a great Nate Drake.
yup and honestly after seeing the film they didn't even really do the whole climbing thing which is what i thought would be the thing holding nathan back from doing a film because of his age. But honestly that wasn't even a thing with holland either. It was much more clue hunting in the film than outright dangerous set pieces so they could have worked around that with an older actor just as well.
