    I'm really glad to see Alan Phillips working with amps again. While I never was fortunate to own his amps, I always enjoyed his philosophy on design and tone. Hearing an amp collaboration between Alan Phillips and Dr. Z was a great way to start off the day.

      @@alanphillips4851 Apologies for the late reply. I have to thank you for pursuit of excellent tone that has resulted in players creating music that helps people get through life. Musicians need tools to translate their art, and if those tools are made with integrity like your amps, I really think it has a tangible effect on how musicians are able to infuse meaning into their work. That work then helps people through difficult times. It's a wonderful cycle.

    How great is that. I don't own a Dr. Z amp but I have played them. Absolutely love Carol Ann Amps. That Alan is back in Amplification in collab with Dr. Z are good news.
    Hope to see and hear more soon.

    I’ve had my CAZ for a couple years now and have always wanted to make a demo video of it. I can’t still figure out how to achieve that due largely in part to how many amazing tones you can get out of it. It’s a do all workhorse on a stellar level. I get lost in it for hours on end. It’s a time machine really. I couldn’t get along without it now. Amazing guitar amplification achievement that will no doubt be sought after in the future once people “get it”

      A "time machine," I love that, thank you! The CAZ-45 is a catch 22 for us, so many amazing tones in it, it's hard to know which to show off! It's really an amp you have to sit down with to experience it. Video demos are a fraction of the experience!

    Holy smokes Dr. Z! I sure hope this isn’t a limited run. The amp is actually a collaboration between you, Alan Phillips, and the late great Ken Fischer, to be honest. I know he would be proud of you both if he was still with us. You and Alan have created a freaking masterpiece! I think I might love this even more than the Z- Wreck! Great call using the transformer that Kenny designed for you. This amp slices through the mix without being harsh or brittle at all.
    Also, great playing Adam! You have an awesome touch and it really highlights what this amp can do.
    Oh yeah, those gutshots look like art too!
    I’ll stop blubbering now and put something up for sale so I can buy this.

      I remember Ken telling me about the "metal" amp he was trying to design around 1990 or so... but he couldn't find a decent output transformer (the bane of Ken's existence 🤣). He was going to use "8 Class A Triodes" and not use a transformer at all. Too bad it never came about... it would have peed on any Mesa, Bogner, Soldano, VHT, Metaltronix, etc. "metal" amp ever made!

      @AdamGotheridge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting! Never tried a jtm45, but played through one of those Bluesbreaker reissue combos once and it was the harshest thing I've ever heard. I'm kind of with you though, like if you cranked the thing to intolerable and added gain, who knows, maybe you could get close. Volume no problem with this one though.

    • @AdamGotheridge
      @AdamGotheridge 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are! Sensitivity, gain, and aggression take the amp all over the place tonally. Level basically has no tone and just controls output level.

    So, I just sent my Maz 18 NR to y'all to have the MKii update done. Here's my question; Is that level knob (on the CAZ-45) a post phase-inverter master volume? And if it isn't, how does that compare to the post phase-inverter master volume that will be installed in my Maz?

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it is post-phase inverter, they work similarly, but are tweaked differently as they are definitely different amp circuits, so the master volume is set up accordingly. You're are going to love your MAZ master volume.

  • @Crunchifyable2

    This is pretty cool. I like high Gain myself so it's really more about texture and response / EQ than it is about actual gain. The aggressiveness thing is brilliant if it can like adjust the compressiveness or the snarl. Like my two favorite amps are the JSX and 5150, and the first is very compressed and exaggerated snarl, and the 5150 has a more traditional rhythm channel with more authentic dynamics (I avoid the lead channel).

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, just pentode wiring. Yes, cathode biasing 6L6 smooths the often brittle top end of the 6L6 yet retains all the detail and clarity.
