But this guy isn't Atreus. This is the last Spartan. In the story he tells his son, he mentions how he was given a proper ceremony, and remembered in future battles, implying that after his death there were still other Spartans.
He named him Atreus because Atreus was the literal antithesis of everything that was a typical Spartan. He was happy, joyous, loving, caring, embraced life and his friends, and made the world a brighter place by him being in it. Everything Kratos didn't see in himself and the other Spartans. It's the same reason that he refused to train Atreus AS a Spartan, because the LAST thing Kratos ever wanted.....was for his son to be a Spartan. He wanted something different, something better for him. And that wish started with the day he was born, and the name he gave him, in hopes of how he might embody that person's spirit
That's exactly what I love about the new series so much. The themes of moving forward and recognizing old mistakes, and realizing that empathy isn't weakness, but rather the opposite.
@@potaterjim Yep, which I'm really glad they did. Because I was a huge GoW fan back in the day, but the events of GoW 3, REALLY turned me off of the series. @happyninja42 The literal tagline of the first game is "those whom the gods would destroy, first they drive mad," the second game has him forced to live when he just wants to die and escape the nightmares they refuse to spare him from, then gets betrayed and murdered, and then on top of that the Titans pour their literal burning rage into him for their own agenda, only for them to betray him too. If you cannot see how this would lead to someone being utterly blinded by rage and a reckless need for retribution, then you don't understand people all that well, let alone how Greek tragedies are told.
@@Terralventhe oh i understand it just fine you pretentious ass, my fucking point is that I don't care to play a fucking genocidal maniac, who tries to justify his genocide, because he got betrayed, you know, like ALL the fucking people he betrayed and casually killed with no consideration at all. he was no fucking better than zeus or any of the other gods, and in fact murdered the few gods who weren't complete shit heels in the series. And then in game 3, he's literally watching the world be destroyed, has multiple characters BEG him to not do it, because of all the untold harm to innocent people he is doing, and will do. And then the game, in it's literal last scene has the audacity to try and make me think he NOW gives a shit about the wrongs he's gleefully enacted on every being around him? Sorry, there IS a way to tell a story like that convincingly, but GoW 3 did not do it. He was a mindless killer, with zero capacity to be empathized with by an actually rational person. And if YOU somehow played that game and thought "yeah, Kratos has a point", then you are horrible human being who probably shouldn't be around other humans, for their safety. He went from an anti-hero in game one, with at least SOME humanity left, into a murderhobo, with no emotion at all in the games, other than seething rage, and growly lines as witty as an 80s action flick. He became a caricature of the person he was before, a parody. By GoW 3, he's just a straight up villain. Tge part that broke me was when you accidentally kill Atreus back in GOW 2 on the ps2
I'm not crying.. youre crying..
I like the originals, and I like 2018. This very human side of Kratos was something you'd only glimpse in the originals. I think this is a natural progression of things, and honestly if this was the end I'd have been fine with it. Im trying to slog through Ragnarok and it's an uphill battle.
This almost made me tear up ngl 😢
Atrues: why would you wanna name me Atreus
Kratos: “WHAT” no your name is BOY
That got me way more emo than I expected
We need more ppl like oh Atreus
It's just a game they said, it'll be fun they said.
Son - Who is Atreus
Kratos - He was like a son I never had
I like to think this is the story kratos told faye when it came time to name atreus
We all know Kratos named his son after his old war time lover.
Nah they be training them babies fresh out the womb hell nahhhhh
*This game being a clear love letter to the original and expanding the characters and world in such beautiful, horrific, and touching way*
David Jaffe: "This fucking sucks"
Atreus is a warrior of hope
A small moment for us.
A impactful and life altering moment for Kratos.
What is the title of the background music pls? Thank you! 💞
He was the strongest man and a warrior
And that was the Human side of Kratos. The true power behind his mental strength is the ability to think like a human, but act like a god.
Kratos hated his home. But he never lost respect for the spartan soliders who fought by his side
What I love about Kratos yes he named his son after a great Spartan but never wanted him to become one. I’m sure that yes it would’ve made him a AMAZING warrior…but I think Kratos feared that the spark and life his son cares for would’ve been lost.
He wanted his son to be better then a god, better then him.
Odin : you've never even been worshipped.
Kratos: you've never been to Sparta.
Man he isn't Atreus, he was the "Last Spartan" they're two different characters
Know we know why "I am no more than a soldier and no less". Now we know who was the Athreus from League of Legends
