I am a curly gal too and I remember as a teenager and into my twenties and early thirties all I wanted was straighter hair. Now as a woman in my late fifties and even in my forties I know how blessed I am to have the curls. I never have to spend time styling my hair. Wash, condition, and put a moisturizer in my hair once out of the shower....done.

Same! I can wear it straight if I choose, however, I can wash, put some product in and GO. My hair looks great!

Finally, a curly hair video by someone whose hair is really not even that curly. Your hair definitely has its own curl pattern, but it’s actually a lot more like mine than most “curly girl” videos! I really appreciate this, because some of us were not blessed with hundreds of corkscrews all over our heads. I am a wavy girl who WISHES for corkscrews! Sometimes it’s uneven and crazy and looks like sticks the next day, but with the right products & a good diffuser it can still be beautiful!! ❤ Although my FAVORITE look on you is the way you did your hair in the scarf video. Please do a tutorial of that! So attractive!

Could you please do an episode on the importance of posture? I see so many women with terrible posture (myself included). I’ve noticed you have good posture…it’s so important not only for the health reasons (can cause back pain, slumped shoulders, etc) but also as a way to feel more confident and strong. Thank you!

I am a curly hair girl, too! When I was younger, I never truly embraced it. When I allow my curls to flourish, so to speak, I get so many compliments! Love this video and all your explanations of each product. I do put the blow dryer to my hair, but I use the heat in a way as to not get the frizz. And I learned through the years that product does, in fact, help! Thank you for another great video!

I love that you listened to your viewers and made a curly hair tutorial. I embraced my curls years ago. It’s a whole different journey with curls. One day the curls may cooperate on the next day not so much. Curly haired gals are always watching the weather. Wind is not our friend. The overnight care is critical as to how your hair will look in the morning for your refresh. Daily washing is NOT for curly hair as it is too drying. It’s true my straight haired friends always love my curls and I’m always wishing I had straight hair especially if I’m having a frizzy bad hair day😂 thanks for the video as always you present a top notch tutorial.

Yay, thank you for this! I have been wearing my hair big and curly most of my life - last 10yrs or so I have been flat ironing it, but you have inspired me to go back to my natural waves. Thank you Dominique - looks super cute on you 😊💕

I got an inverted bob today and the stacking she did in the back is far shorter than the picture I showed her! 😳 🤷‍♀️ I was feeling so anxious in the salon when she showed me the finished product. But I actually thought of you and thought, ya know I bet if this happened to Dominique she would just own it and rock the look. I came home and used all the styling tips you’ve given over the years and when my husband saw me he actually complimented me on how stylish it looks - and he does not like short hair! Just wanted to say thank you. I really would have cried had I not been watching you all these years!

I’m 61 and I have curls. I am now loving mine. I follow curl sisters and have learned to love my curls. The biggest difference in our technique is a holding gel or mousse. It is magical in keeping the curl shape and fluffing after it is dry gives you miles of volume. It makes defined curls instead of fluff. Maybe add it one day. I use Herbal Essence mousse. Very inexpensive with great hold!❤

Thank you for this tutorial. As a curly haired girl, who decided to stop straightening my hair with everything from rolling on fruit juice cans to ironing it; when I turned 35 (am 80 now), I have found that the cut is the most important thing. Unfortunately, very few stylists really understand how to cut my hair to allow the natural curl patterns to flourish. I moved to FL 2 years ago after 5 years of “snowbirding”, and have been through 6 stylists! My hair loves humidity, and I have found a serum is the key to control frizz and enhance the curls. An old product, Frizz Ease, does a pretty good job as well.

Adorable! When I let my hair go natural many years ago, I used a "pick"" at the end of it getting dry just on the under side to give it volume. Your cut is perfect for this curl styling. Still encourage you to try a thin hair band which will also give you volume.

2 products that I've used in the past that are brilliant at taming frizz are John Frieda's Dream Curls (can be found at Target) and/or BOING by Unite (found at hari salons or online). Spray to saturate hair immediately after showering, I usually flip my head over to be sure and get the underneath as well, scrunch then use a diffuser and hair dryer. Viola! Frizz free curls:) Cheers!

I followed some of your tips for styling my curly hair because I recently was criticized by mother as to why I don't blow dry my hair completely anymore. This brought me to tears as my hair has thinned over the last few years. I used to have the Farrah Fawcett layers back in the day but at 63 years old my hair no longer has what it once did so I have been trying to work with my natural curls. Your video not only inspired me but made me feel good about my hair again. Other than the products you mentioned which I will purchase at a later time; I followed some of your techniques. 1. I didn't completely rinse out all my hair conditioner. 2. Instead of your hair products, I used Quidad Vital Curl Soft Defining Mousse (my hair dresser purchased for me). 3 instead of using a hair clip in the back for height, I used a couple of hair curlers that required no hair pins and dried that part of my hair with a hair dryer (just a couple of minutes). I left the rollers in until the rest of my hair dried. I also tossed the front of my hair just like you demonstrated letting those curls fall to where they wanted and after I took the hair rollers, I blended my curls with my fingers and it all fell into place beautifully. OMG what difference that made. The next morning I spritz my hair with a little water and all my curls fell back into place. Thanks so much!

I’ve let it go naturally, but the curl lasts for only a day and then my hair just looks undone and so I have to use a flat iron to straighten it. I’ve been trying to figure out how to lean in to my curly hair and this tutorial has helped. Right now I’m growing my layers out, but will try some of these methods you presented here. Love your hair! I was taught from a very early age to hate my natural hair so I had been chemically straightening my hair for decades. I finally decided to stop that about 10 or so years ago. I don't know whether I love my hair yet but I've come to accept it as it is. When I think about all the money I spent chemically straigtening, I could scream. That money could have gone into retirement and I would be sipping pina coladas on the beach somewhere now.

I love your natural curls! I have naturally wavy, lightly curly hair. I wore it naturally for several years throughout my 40s. But I found as I’ve aged (I’m 62) the texture of my hair changed some and I have so much less curl in the front than the back now. Also, my highlights basically removed what curl there was in the front. And after trying to work with it as curly for several months last year, I decided that with the changes to my face shape from aging, I just don’t like how I look with wavy/curly hair anymore. Since I live in humid Florida, I get keratin treatments to help me deal with the frizz. And I have let it grow a little longer (kind of a lob) so that when my rogue waves decide to make an appearance, it doesn’t ruin the look of a sleekly styled bob.

I’m a curly gal living in Queensland Australia. We have extremely humid weather so I know your pain, Dominique Xx! 🤣 it’s all about hydration. I’ve also been told to rinse hair in cool water only and squish your conditioner in to sopping wet hair and squish dry with a t- shirt or micro fibre towel to avoid the friction of a regular towel. Also put your curl products in the sopping wet hair to create curl clumps and use the clips where you want any volume. 2nd and 3rd day hair spray with some water and it will reactivate your products with a little more leave in moisturiser. Hope these tips help someone. 😊

As a 70 yr old I have come to love my curly hair and embrace it. All my lady friends at church are jealous of curls! I live in Panama City Beach Fl. The humidity mostly makes my hair curlier, so I do use a serum to calm it. Thanks for the tips!!

Hi, i have wavy hair that also has frizz on top like yours. i discovered only a few months ago to add curl cream to saturated wet hair. in the past i’ve always towel dried my hair before adding any curl the cream or mousse but in doing this i was taking all the moisture out of my hair. if you leave your hair wet through after showering and then add the curl cream, squish it in whilst scrunching upwards at the same time. you’ll get fantastic results. it’s messy as your hairs wet through, i tend to do it over the bath, but oh my god!!!!!!!!!! what a game changer, my curls are so much more defined and lots more of them. try it, i’d be curious as to see your results. x

I had really curly hair when it came in after chemo after being born with really fine straight hair. What a challenge. A lot of it eventually went away but it did stay wavy and lots of cowlicks. Fun video. 🥰

I've recently started using coconut oil in a spray bottle on dry hair and it's been a big success. Just one spray on my palms, lightly applied to my hair, spraying on directly was too flattening. It's A Ten spray is also good. I love your more natural look, hair and make up both. It's great advice to lean in to what we do have.

I had straight hair prior to cancer, then had cork screw curls. Loved how easy the curly hair was. Now that I am older, the curl has relaxed a bit and is more challenging as it seems to be neither curly or straight. I need to try these products when I a home all day as it takes some time to dry. Fun video as always.

I am 67 with long hair (midway down my back) that I began growing out about 5 years ago from a super-short pixie that I had been wearing for many years. It wasn't until I began growing it out that I discovered how wavy/curly it actually is. Photos from high school and college (when I last had long hair) confirmed that I was always a wavy haired gal, but it was smooth and wavy back then. What has changed? I live in hot, humid South Florida and am post-menopausal, so now my long, curly hair (which also has some wiry silvers/grays here and there) also gets a halo of frizz, especially on my face-framing front pieces. The struggle is real.

Curly/wavy hair girl too! Sometimes I like the curls and other times I like to straighten it. We are blessed to have these options. When I take the time to straighten it, the style seems to last longer. Live in Colorado, so the frizz is a dry, static look. I really like using Bedhead's After Party to tame the frizz and it smells good too! Thank you for your wonderful, inspiring videos!

Love this! I’m a wavy/curly and my favorite years were mid 80’s through 99 when I embraced my long curly hair! It was so liberating from my many years of straightening, ironing etc. In rolled 2000 and I hit 40 and wanted the classic straight look that was so opposite my big hair days. Now at 60 I want to be able to do both. Fall and winter in New York are low humidity so I can do a blow and love it. Approaching summer and hello humidity. I so want to learn to embrace my wave in the summer on those humid days. It’s been a year since my last keratin treatment and I’m loving that my hair doesn’t look as flat. Now for the lessons in curls. Thanks for this!

I have been watching a lot of videos lately because I am going to start embracing my natural curl. Have you ever used gel on really wet hair? That is what I have seen the most and it does seem to eliminate the frizz more. You are a beautiful person no matter what.

Dominique, you're ridiculously pretty no matter what your hair is doing. Mine is neither straight nor curly -- it's got a flat, uneven wave pattern that just looks sad unless I style it. And it's very fine, so I can't 'do' it too much or it will break. My hair is best on its second, third, even fourth day after a shampoo, and I don't use conditioner, except for a leave-in spritz to detangle. I've learned that less product works better for me.

I swear by a certain line of products for curly hair. There is no frizz whatsoever and I even use a diffuser to speed up the drying process as my hair is long. Also, to freshen it the next morning I simply run cold water over my hands, rub them together and dab all over. It awakens the product already in it and once again there is no frizz.
Your hair looks adorable curly ❤

OH thank you for doing this video! You have such wonderful ideas and suggestions. and YES I believe we do rinse out the conditioner. And now I can put aside the blow dryer and the hot curling iron for a while. I have always loved to allow my hair to dry naturally. It seems to look thicker and more healthy. So now I am going to run in the bathroom and do my thing. You are the best ever and we love you girl!

I don’t wear my hair curly very often, because growing up in the late 60’s & 70’s girls were so mean. The names are stuck in my head! However, I am going to give these products a try! 🤞🏻

You can also use a 3/4 or 1/2 inch curling iron to smooth down the cuticle and make the curls last longer. This is especially useful on 2nd day hair. It takes the top layer of frizz away and helps the curls look a little more defined.

I love my curls and I will never, ever straighten them! You have a very unique way to style your curls. I’m used to curly girls using gels, mousses (or both), and then diffusing them. Then they scrunch out the crunch of the styling products by using a light oil or serum. I would prefer to let my hair air dry, but I can’t always do that because it’s cold where I live, but we still have humidity.

My straight hair went wavy a few years ago (one of the positive effects of perimenopause). My biggest tip to reduce frizz is that once you apply stylers, do not touch your hair until it's 100% bone dry. No scrunching, fluffing, smoothing, or raking. However, I have to diffuse my hair or it will take hours to dry leading to more frizz. What I do to fix it is mix a dab of gel with water in the palm of my hands and lightly smooth it over the top layer to "reorganize" the frizz. It's not perfect, but it definitely helps.

My hair is just exactly like yours. I'm 68 years old and it's only been within the last 10 years that I've let my hair go natural. ALL be It I was a hairdresser for 40 years. Had lots of opportunities to straighten my hair and keep it pretty straight here in Colorado. But I do know there's no straightening it in humid weather! Love love love your videos❣️❣️❣️

Im like you as i straighten my hair almost all the time. Then once in awhile i will let my natural waves come out. The problem is i can only stand looking at myself wavy so long, then I've had enough. As i have thick hair it takes twice as long for me to ket it dry naturaly. I feel such a mess and want my smooth hair back. To each his own. Yep summers are the worst, that why i get a keratin treatment for the warmer weather. No it does not straighten it completely, but it truely does help on those really humid days. Thanks, Dominique for sharing your curly hair process. I pick up something useful from each of your videos.👍
