The more we learn about kelsey and this trio’s friendship, the more I just adore her. She’s really made crass, caring, and loud ladies like myself feel seen. I understand the speaking decibel can put people off but it’s only bc we’re having big feelings. But we will buy you at least half a pair of shoes just bc we love you and are aggressively protective and devoted towards those we love. Edit: also the podcast crossover of miles’ college joke (miles and Kelsey discussed it on one of their independent podcasts recently) made me crack up.
Agreed. Honestly I'm a lot like Kelsey and love people like Kelsey, but I do understand that some people with sensory issues can't handle me when I'm at my most, because I can't handle people like me/her when I'm overwhelmed either LOL. I think it's okay to recognize that sometimes people just have incompatibilities, and I wish more people could accept that without judging people. Kelsey is cool and not everyone has to be your personal cup of tea or who you'd live with in order to be a neat person ❤️❤️
My favorite fun fact about this movie is all of the children in the movie still believe in Santa during filming so whenever Tim Allen was in costume (even if they weren't filming), he'd stay in character and ask them if they were good and what they wanted for Christmas Also if you watch throughout the movie, whenever there's kids shown at least one has the Elf ears because they're keeping their eyes on the actual children
As a Swede, I can confirm "glögg" is a real thing that we drink around the holidays. It's a sort of wine you drink either hot or cold. Kelsey actually got this one right 😅
My brother got us some after he lived in Germany for a while. He described it as tasting like Christmas and he wasn't wrong. I was screaming "Kelsey's right!!!! IT'S GLÖGG!!!"
Counter point to Zach tirade about the conservative coding of this movie, the mom and step dad do represent a more modern liberal couple, but neither are ever true villains. Just a mom and a step dad trying to protect their child from his dad, who from their perspective seems to be having a mental breakdown. Once they learn that he really is Santa and not a danger to Charlie they never withhold his son from him again and the three of them work together as a co-parenting team for the rest of the series.
Now I didn't watch the video fully yet, I just saw your comment, take the dad aspect out of it for a second. The mom and step dad were essentially bothered the kid was getting too excited for the holidays. Seriously forget Santa, the child was happy about Christmas, that was a bad thing to them because he was what, too happy. Now bringing in his father, let's take visitation rights away because your son believes you in too much. They may have thought the dad was having a breakdown but they're willing to take their son's enjoyment away, like it's insane. lol
Zach turning into Grinch and heart growing, Kelsey not understanding eggnog, Miles and Garrett being middle man to the madness. what a hilarious podcast.
I think the "grainy" quality to the movie is part of why we are so nostalgic about it and it feels as much of a classic as Miracle on 34th Street, The Grinch, and those claymation movies.
OMG, the half pair of Crocs moment and Kelsey's meltdown over it is epic. Hilarious, but understandably also incredibly annoying, frustrating and stupid!
2 thoughts: 1. There's a person on tiktok who has an insane theory about the timeline of the 3 movies and its WILD because it makes a lot of sense. 2. This movie, from Charlie's perspective is a textbook case of gaslighting and as an adult it stresses me out. He is doing nothing but telling the truth, to his parents, his teachers his friends, the judge. He's telling everyone the truth and all it does is make his life worse. It's truly wild.
I watched this with my 9year old son and when that Judy/Santa interaction was really confusing to him. He just looked at me with wide eyes and said,”Funny in 1989, not in 2022.” He thinks this was made in the 80’s 😅
Please add a segment to the show called "Milesplain" where Miles explains concepts to the GP members I was dying when he was explaining pasteurization to Kelsey lol love the pod!
Kelsey’s right, it’s called Glögg! It’s a Swedish mulled wine spiked with whisky/brandy. My Swedish friend introduced me to it and I crack up every time she said it 😂
Ok but what I’ll never understand about Christmas movies with Santa Claus is that do parents just not notice the gifts under the tree in the morning that they never purchased? Like do they not notice? Isn’t that all the proof anyone needs?
And also in a world where Santa exists, why do kids stop believing? And why did Neil not get his weenie whistle when he was 3?? What the hell. Like why does Santa just sometimes not give kids anything, not even coal. There's the same kind of issue in The Polar Express.
I love this movie so much. My favorite joke is when they are reading the night before Christmas and the kid asks what A Rose Schick ladder is? And Tim Allen explains what he said, arose such a clatter. And then when they go outside and they go onto the roof the ladder they use says A Rose Suchik Ladder company. Love it haha

I still adore the Santa Clause but as an adult watching these movies I keep asking where are these kids parents! Long line of kids to sit on a strangers lap that their parents don't know!
English is not my first language so as a kid I guessed they had it written that way To avoid confusion with another movie or something 😂 only years later when my english got better I realized it.
Swede here to back up Kelsey: Glögg = our version of mulled wine and very much a christmas tradition, and Grogg = a very basic alcoholic drink from only two ingredients, like vodka or moonshine + soda or lemonade.
I watched this movie yesterday and I am not joking when I say I was saying every single word of dialogue, I LOVE this movie, it’s such a staple of my childhood. Haven’t even finished the video I’m just so happy you all love and remember it like I do ❤
This movie helped my family. The year before this came out my mom's first husband and my 3 older siblings biological father had passed away in the summer. When the relatives on their father's side went to see this movie it helped them and brought them cheer. Everybody went to see it.
I loved this movie as a child because my dad was Tim Allen's character if he never became Santa Clause and was an alcoholic and it was wish fulfilment for me 😅
Just watched it for the first time in 20 years with my baby boy and seriously. I cannot believe I forgot how funny this movie was. And so we’ll done. 😂 his transformation is absolutely hilarious
Yes! I was doubtful my 13-year-old was going to want to sit through an early 90's kid movie, but she really was engaged and laughing through all three.
Thank you Zach!!! This movie also taught me how to spell Claus wrong and I spelled it Clause my entire childhood, I did not clue into it as a child. I did not learn today but I was definitely old when I found it out.
Comet isn't gassy in the 2nd one, Chet is. I had to look up his name because he isn't one of the originals lol. but I just remember him being voiced by Kath Soucie.
Im so confused on how old they think gen z actually is? WE GROW UP ON THESE MOVIEs! Also I realized the pun as a kid. You guys stress me out sometimes cuz I worry you guys think my entire generation is hopeless

Not only was I possibly in my twenties when I discovered the ‘Clause/Claus’ pun of this movie, but yeah.. I also thought Claus was spelt Clause until at least my teens. There was definitely a weird confusing time when I didn’t understand why this movie had betrayed my understanding of the spelling of ‘Claus’
On the question Zach raised about the use of fat suits in this film (And thank you so much for saying that it's not something you've experienced and posing it to the audience! I love seeing this)- My opinion is that the fat suit wasn't needed for the movie (or any movie, honestly). Tim Allen was not so thin and lanky that he would not have resembled enough of the ideal Santa. I feel that, while it seems innocuous enough, that is why it is harmful to plus sized people. They included the weight gain specifically in order to make it a joke. Tim Allen has never moved in a body that size. He does not have the lived knowledge of being fat. I would guess that there was not a fat person in the room during the making of the movie. This leads to a few logistical problems in the movie (like the fact that people who gain weight gradually have increased muscle strength from gradually carrying more, while the immediate growth in the movie would have led to him to have so many joint and back problems and just fatigued muscles. If he started carrying around that much more weight over night, he would never be able to do the physical tasks of being Santa with that kind of energy. If the movie chooses to go the "realistic" route of thinking it's a tumor, etc, then keep it going) I get that it's movie magic, but this is the kind of issue that arises when straight-sized people write and play fat characters without consulting actual fat people. In my opinion, if you want a fatter Santa, start with a fatter actor or add a thick coat as the costume. Fat people are so often reduced to jokes about their weight on screen, and in a movie about "Christmas Spirit," we don't need jokes about the bodies of a marginalized community. Is this the worst case of the use of a fat suit? No. I love the movie. It doesn't ruin the movie for me, but I would like to do better in forthcoming films. Love the pod! Thanks for making me want to watch movies again. You are all hilarious.
The only flaw in Zach's "is it a Christmas movie" rubric is that Die Hard's plot hinges on it being Christmas. It wouldn't work on a random day. Whereas I argue that one of my favorite movies, The Holiday, is not a Christmas movie because it could have happened any day of the year, and Christmas doesn't really figure into the plot in an integral way.
I haven't finished the video yet. But I haven't seen a comment mentioning it yet, so I wanted to. I'll edit the post later if it comes up in the podcast. The actor who plays Bernard is in The Addams Family Value as well. He's the adorable guy who likes Wednesday at camp.
The thing that i always ask myself is. 1. didn’t the elves like the old Santa because they seem happy for the new one. And 2. is there somewhere a house who all the ex misses Claus live? Or aren’t there any? Was there never one Santa that had to search for one?
@@EmmaMendez is it good? I only watched the first episode on tv because i don’t have Disney+ and it looked ok but didn’t feel that Christmassy to me yet.
I greatly enjoy this movie.... i realized about the clause the very first time i watched it, but i was also old enough that when i saw bernard rhe elf, my very first reaction was 'how did the kid from addams family values get so old?!' Note: he is 4 years older than me, i should not have been surprised.
...is it weird that I understood from the first time I saw it that it was about a legal clause?? Like even as a kid I got it, I didn't realize other people wouldn't have realized
Do you think most children know what legal clauses are? I was still learning that blood cells came in red and white when I first watched the Santa Clause.
I think Elf is like bread for the masses...it's satisfying and an enjoyable distraction from everyday life. But The Santa Clause has much more substance and leaves you feeling more full. If that makes sense.
Kelsey is right! It’s called Glögg and is very popular in Scandinavia during Christmas, it’s like mulled wine with fruits, berries and traditional Christmas spices like anise, cinnamon and vanilla🙏🏻🎄
ok as a fat person the Santa Clause hits me in a weird way because like. it's one of the few movies where the main characters gets fat and that's *a good thing* (narratively). but it's fine for a man to get fat
My mom was scared to let me watch this as a kid because they kept saying that Santa isn’t real. Love this movie though, I need to watch this again and then watch the tv show
“What is she talking about, Glorf?” “Yeah, and you really don’t believe in college, right?” “That’s like asking if you heat up a cake, will you get scrambled eggs.” These three statements made me cry laughing 😂
It's very funny that I listened to this podcast today since it is the 1 year anniversary of my dad's death, but when you talked about the scene with the little girl approaching Tim Allen on the bench and then sitting in his lap. My dad was mostly Swedish, and always had a beard. He also worked for an organization that helped homeless people in our area, and they ran the Head Start programs. Every year, around Thanksgiving is when the preschool kids would realize that my dad looks like Santa. And every year a kid would tell my dad that he looks like Santa and my dad would always respond with, "Oh, do I look like Santa? Well, you want to know a secret? The list is true."
……. I understood that “The Santa Claus” was a pun immediately. They literally point it out in the movie…… and I was born in ‘94, so I’m around yalls age
We never really watched Christmas movies in my home (we aren’t a Christian household) BUT this movie was my favorite movie for a long time, I remember watching the full movies on TH-cam in the summer time bc I just loved them all so much
As a fat person I would rather have a fat actor for a fat character. However, in a role like this with magical weight gain related to santa I think it's ok. But with him gaining weight being necessary for is character they shouldn't of had so many fat jokes.
I think I figured out the name when I was a kid because in Latin America the movie is actually called “Santa cláusula” which also kinda translates to “Holy Clause” but it’s meant to be actually Santa, which is really funny but yeah I love Latin America and the way they translate movie titles
I realized when I couldn’t figure out whether the spelling was Claus or Clause that that’s what they actually meant and that a whole generation spells it wrong because of them Edit; I liked that the Elves were kids because it’s fun to spot them in the scenes in between

🥳 Yes!!! My daughter and I watched all three this weekend in preparation for the new Disney+ series! 🎅🤶
...is it weird that I understood from the first time I saw it that it was about a legal clause?? Like even as a kid I got it, I didn't realize other people wouldn't have realized
Do you think most children know what legal clauses are? I was still learning that blood cells came in red and white when I first watched the Santa Clause.
@@Lady-Seashell-Bikini I know but now I'm confused as to how I knew? lmao
I knew it too. Its never occurred to me that it wasn't obvious.
@@amandakesterson224 Yeah, like I'm not sure if I knew the legal term clause or not, I think probably I just figured it out from context clues?
I’m watching the tv show on Disney plus and it’s really cute
honestly think i realised immediately as a child because i knew what clause meant and every other xmas movie uses claus. also again, They Say It
Can we get a LIVE Guilty Pleasures where we can all watch the movie together online and then witness/participate in a live pod.
Garrick fr had me breathless at 49:40 onward 👑
My mom was scared to let me watch this as a kid because they kept saying that Santa isn’t real. Love this movie though, I need to watch this again and then watch the tv show
“What is she talking about, Glorf?”
“Yeah, and you really don’t believe in college, right?”
“That’s like asking if you heat up a cake, will you get scrambled eggs.”
These three statements made me cry laughing 😂
This is my fave Christmas movie!! I fully agree with Zach, this is THE Christmas movie!!!!
I found out that the Santa clause was a contract in high school, I think. Mind blown
My mind was blown when I realized that the dude that plays Bernard I mostly knew more as the dorky guy in 10 Things I Hate About You
……. I understood that “The Santa Claus” was a pun immediately. They literally point it out in the movie…… and I was born in ‘94, so I’m around yalls age
this movie is literally THE Christmas movie and I have no clue why it is burned in my brain...
Bernard was hot af!
RIGHT?! I had a huge crush on David Krumholtz after this movie. I am so glad he's had a long and successful career.
@@kathleenuclear SAME! And I was so excited when I first started watching Numbers!
We never really watched Christmas movies in my home (we aren’t a Christian household) BUT this movie was my favorite movie for a long time, I remember watching the full movies on TH-cam in the summer time bc I just loved them all so much
I freaking love the eggnog tirade. It's so stupid. 🤣🤣
to answer Kelsey's question about what is Judy's hot chocolate secret ingredient: Not too hot, extra chocolate, shaken not stirred
As a fat person I would rather have a fat actor for a fat character. However, in a role like this with magical weight gain related to santa I think it's ok. But with him gaining weight being necessary for is character they shouldn't of had so many fat jokes.
The 90s wasn't exactly an age of body positivity. Remember that's the time "Heroin Chic" was a thing.
Fun Fact: The little bench girl was played by the same little girl from Look Who’s Talking Now!
I JUST FUCKING REALIZED THE SANTA CLAUSE PUN
Next Christmas you all should do "Noelle"
I think I figured out the name when I was a kid because in Latin America the movie is actually called “Santa cláusula” which also kinda translates to “Holy Clause” but it’s meant to be actually Santa, which is really funny but yeah I love Latin America and the way they translate movie titles
I realized when I couldn’t figure out whether the spelling was Claus or Clause that that’s what they actually meant and that a whole generation spells it wrong because of them
Edit; I liked that the Elves were kids because it’s fun to spot them in the scenes in between
Glogg is mulled wine. Grogg is rum and water.
Okay I would kill for Kelsey to release a vintagey Christmas album. Her singing Mele Kalikimaka was so pretty!
I've worked at a shoe store, guarantee they had one on display and forgot to put it in the box. That sucks 😭😭
I need a croc update! Did Zac get the other shoe?!?!
