These videos are NOT individual medical advice and are for general educational purposes only. I do not give medical advice over the internet, see your own physician in person for that.
This case was in Illinois, February 2013. Video footage herein is a reenactment and was recorded by me in August 2018 in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, and Chicago, IL, USA.
These cases are patients who I, or my colleagues have seen. They are de-identified and many instances have been presented in more depth in an academic setting.

Me too. I remember reading in this forum how the majority of the writers wrote how this drugs kept them up for days, and they recovered after that. I replied "I much rather have taken something and have temporary insomnia than my brain curse. If I sleep 4-5 hours, lucky me because cannot make up for those hours, tomorrow I may sleep less or the same. I rarely sleep 7 hours. For those writing, it ends after your drug-use, for me it is a never ending bittersweet nightmare." No one replied to my comment.

I had a similar problem. I upped the quetiapine. Doctors told me I was crazy. Turns out I had a pituitary adenoma. You need a special MRI for that, but they could have just done a pituitary panel that whole time. Doctors act like its no big deal if you cant sleep. Its completely disabling and a literal form of torture. It was pretty obvious to me I had a pituitary issue, but they make a lot of money on those sleep clinics. I lost 15 years of my life.

I’m so incredibly sorry. Sleep is one of the basic elements to human health and function. It’s the #1 thing that was examined in my intensive outpatient program (for chronic pain and illness). Adequate sleep is a game changer. I’m so glad you finally figured out what was wrong. And I’m so sorry that it took so long

    • @Elevendyeleven
      @Elevendyeleven ปีที่แล้ว

@@alexwyatt2911 the quetiapine worked, with minimal side effects. It was so hard to get doctors to even consider the possibility. First they refused to do the test, and then when it was found incidentally with a high powered MRI, they tried to tell me it was insignificant. I was gaslit to the end.
It made wonder how many people die of fatal drug combinations desperately trying to sleep because of an undiagnosed pituitary disorder. Pituitary adenomas arent that rare. Its just near impossible to find a doctor willing to look for it. They do not show up on regular MRIs and not typically in the standard labs they use. I had to go to a neuro endocrinologist and neuro surgeon who specializes in brain tumors.

As someone who’s had very bad bouts with insomnia, I can understand the desperation. When I’d not slept at all in 3 days, I was seriously considering asking to go to the ER. Sleep that night never felt better.

    • @7SillySins
      @7SillySins 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

This is unrelated to sleeping but I never ate well growing up, and one time I had a different problem when I was 15, where all of a sudden I was always hungry and never felt satisfied, and I was scared to go to sleep every night because I’d wake up 1-2 times in the night hungry, at the most unpredictable times. I would have anxiety attacks often, and one night I started begging my mom to take me to the hospital if I couldn’t sleep after that night. My sleep ended up being fine that night, but the hunger still continued for a couple months.
We scheduled a GI scan appointment to see what was wrong, and a few weeks before my blood and urine tests were taken to see if I possibly had diabetes or any problems with my thyroid. All tests came back normal, and there was nothing wrong with my GI tract. But, I visited a physician to go over my results and ask for advice. We went over my eating habits, (they were horrible, I barely ate cause I never had much of an appetite but it never bothered me before), and she said that I needed to start eating more proteins and fibers. And then, she went to press on my stomach, and she said, “You’re constipated. You’re packed all the way up!”
It turns out that I was quite literally full of shit, and I needed to start taking MiraLax for a day without eating solid foods to cleanse all the shit out. I also needed to start eating foods that were actually filling, instead of eating side meals that I had previously done for many years. It was really hard to do because I’m an extremely picky eater and don’t like any kind of meat, so finding filling foods was a big challenge at the start. But, in a few months I got on the right track with some new foods, and although I don’t eat much meat now, I eat much more healthy foods now and I’ve learned my lesson 😅

I have SEVERE Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. I've had my entire colon removed, terminal ileum, rectal bulb, and right at twelve feet of my intestine removed. So I have just 34% of my digestive system left. Because of this I have an Ileostomy and it has been 13 years since I had the operations to remove so much from my abdomen. It has been a terribly difficult road to travel, but I do the best I can. So any time I see medical videos that talk about any autoimmune diseases such as Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Sjogren's Syndrome, Osteoporosis, and others, all of which I have, I can totally relate and it always makes me sad to see others suffering from such awful diseases. @@tgbluewolf damn Dude.. Only 12 y/o? Holy crap. I hope you're fine now and meds are keeping the disease in remission.
Edit:I should also put up WARNING of a long, long read.
By the way, I wasn't just asking out of curiosity.
You see, I've had stomach issues since my childhood as well(I'm 22 now, and in 3rd year of college).
Like, I remember that I used to get diarrhoea at least 3-4 times a year, which seems normal, but on the same diet, sleep schedule, and physical activity, my brother never got diarrhoea that frequently(or ever) .
I was also always underweight, still am.
On top of that, my digestive system was weird/weak. Like, during the long summer days, if me and bro would take an afternoon nap, he would wake up feeling refreshed, while I would wake up with acidity/bloating/gas/indigestion. The simple cure to this was "don't sleep during the day".
Anyhoo, as I reached grade 12, this problem worsened. Now if I slept during the day (although I used to avoid it as much as possible), on waking up, I had to rush to the toilet as whatever I had eaten in the morning /afternoon would sh*t out in a semi digested form.
I still didn't pay that much attention to it, as
      1. There was no pain whatsoever till then.
      2. My academics kept me busy enough to keep my mind diverted from my issues.
Then in 2018 I began my first year of college. Still underweight, and attracted to the idea of how many of my peers had started working out(possibly to attract female attention),in my second year I joined a gym as well, along with my skinny af friend.
We both bought the same whey protein(optimum nutrition) , and we were both 52kg at 5'9.
After abour 2 months, I was both shocked and dismayed.
My friend had built up noticeable amount of mass, and went from 52 to 59kg, while I was stuck at 52,with 0 gain in mass, while having same diet.
On top of that, my digestive system got wrecked, I couldn't digest that protein.
So I bought a lactose free protein, thinking that lactose was the issue.
Again, same result. This time digestion worsened further, to the point that I had to stop working out /eating protein.
Now I was in a state that before leaving for college in the morning, I had to visit the toilet 4-5 times, used to get tenesmus after eating literally anything, during lunch I would eat my food and in the next lecture I would find myself battling the need to take a sh*t(despite the fact that I had already emptied my bowels multiple times in the morning).
This was in later half of 2019.
2020 began. I suffered through these issues(frequent toilet visits, gas, indigestion, mushy stool) during Jan /Feb, and then lockdown began in March and colleges shut down. I finally went to a physician, who told me that it is just IBS caused due to whey protein intolerance and weak digestion, and gave me a few meds (1 antibiotic, 1 probiotic, 1 multivitamin, 1 tablet for ibs).
These seemed to have cured my issues for about a month.
Until 1 day, in May 2020, I woke up with pain below my chest and in my lower right quadrant on my belly. Rushed to the ER. Doctors suspected appendix(even though the intensity of pain was very, very low, unlike appendix pain which is excruciating) , and I went through an ultrasound, which came clean.
For some reason, whenever anyone, be it the doctor or the ultrasound technician, was touching my belly in the RLQ region, I would get cramps(think how a kid's belly stiffens up when you tickle them, just multiply that reaction 10x).
Since my usg was clean, doctor just gave me a few meds, thinking it's a stomach infection, and discharged me.
The following 3 days, I got black stool.
Went back to the doctor. He admitted me again. Ct scan of belly and endoscopy were done.
CT scan revealed nothing, everything was fine.
      Endoscopy reveleaed mild erosive gastritis.
I was given the appropriate meds and got discharged. By now my weight had reduced to 45 kg.
Anyway, after my discharge, things seemed fine for a bit, but 2 things weren't going away.
      1. That rlq pain and cramps.
      2. Fatigue and weakness.
That pain wasn't debilitating or too harsh, so I just ignored it, and did the same with the feeling of weakness and fatigue. My weight wasn't increasing either. But I still didn't pay much attention, as I now had to sit through online lectures. However, in the evening, due to my fatigue, I started doing the thing I used to avoid at any cost.. And that's sleeping during the day.
This wrecked me even more. I started to get heartburn and indigestion all the time, even though I was on daily ppi's and sucralfate syrups.
RLQ pain and cramps were still there, hell, they're still here.
Went back, this time, to a different gastro, who recommended a colonoscopy.
And now here we are. Debating whether I should get one (I'm scared of it).
      My weight is now 43kg.
Just like you, I sometimes get greenish hue in my stool(which is mushy) despite not eating anything green the previous day.
Before defecating, I get pain in my belly, as if my intestines are hurting due to the passage of stool.
Milk doesn't get digested anymore and I don't eat eggs/meat(religious reasons).
Even though I'm on an entirely bland diet(boiled quinoa, oats, porridge, and few fruits like papaya/pomegranate(I spit the seeds of the pomegranate out)), I still get slight burning while defecating.
Sleeping during the day during the months of September /October has aggravated my Gerd issues and now anything too sour fks up my throat.
Staying home all this time and Googling my symptoms up, posting them on reddit, have all led me to believe that it indeed is crohn's.
I mean, if it were ibs, ibs meds should've worked.
If it was something else, like trauma to my intestines due to weight lifting, it would've shown up on ct.
If it was ulcerative colitis, at least once I would've shat red blood, which I haven't yet,not even once.
My stool either looks yellowish, or slightly green/dark.
The only other disease that was diagnosed was swelling in my mesenteric lymph nodes, which the doctors dismissed as being nothing.
However, a friend of mine (who's pretty healthy) told me he got mesenteric lymph swelling once(he used to eat a lot of junk food), and the pain he got was extremely strong, resembling that of appendix pain, but his ct showed lymph node swelling and thus appropriate meds were given, and he's fine now.
That didn't happen with me, my pain is mild, and spread throughout my abdomen, with a slightly higher intensity being in the rlq region . If I try to flex my abdominal muscles, it hurts, if I cough or sneeze too hard, it hurts and I get cramps .
There's tenesmus all the time, weight isn't increasing, stool doesn't look normal,I sometimes get short bursts of piercing pain in my rectum.
There's gurgling sounds coming from my belly all the time.
Guess I should man up and get that colonoscopy done.
I wanted to ask you, are we under some numbing agent while going through a colonoscopy? Coz the thought of it is really scaring me.
Lastly, I'm sorry that it's been a long, long read, but there was nowhere else I could converse with someone who's been struck with such a disease that even the most evil person shouldn't get.

    • @tgbluewolf
      @tgbluewolf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +42

@@AJ-jq3hm Oh damn, I'm so sorry you've been going through all that! Definitely get the colonoscopy--yes, sedation is used; there's different levels, from conscious but relaxed to asleep, so just tell your doctor that you're nervous and if you'd prefer to be asleep, and they should work with that.
It sounds like stress triggers symptoms with you, which is definitely common with me and others I've met who have crohn's.
Symptom-wise, I forgot (somehow) to mention that one of my symptoms at diagnosis was actually constipation and diarrhea at the same time--yup, that's possible! I'd have to strain, but when it did come out it was watery. My gastro specialist said that that's common with inflammatory bowel diseases.
Thanks for your support, except for flares I've been relatively asymptomatic from day-to-day, though I do have some complications so I'm still not where I'd like to be, but I recently started a new med that hopefully should do the trick. After 20 years I'm almost indifferent to it, though there's always moments when I'm just fed up with my body controlling my life. Sucks that crohn's can affect literally your entire digestive system from the mouth to the anus, it's like Russian roulette with your health.
I'll be praying for you, and if you're okay doing so please let me know how it goes. Having someone who understands what you're going through is a huge part of healing.

I had a similar situation a few years ago. It's utterly miserable and is basically disabling. In my case, it was due to a traumatic experience one of my students had in front of me, and it really shook me up in a big way because I adore my students. I didn't sleep properly for about 2 months, and when I did, I had awful nightmares. 4 years on I'm back to normal, and my (now graduated) student is just fine, it wasn't anything gory or... well, y'know. She's in a good job and succeeding, which I'm thrilled about. I eventually turned to Nytol (Diphenhydramine) to help me sleep, but I don't use it any more.
As stated, don't abuse that stuff. Always follow the stated dose.

This happened to my boyfriend's grandma. She had constipation for a very long time, but didn't tell anyone. And one day she suddenly started feeling nauseous, stomach pain and weakness. We called ambulance twice, both times they just gave her some pain relief and left. Later we had to take her to ER ourselves. It was during covid lockdowns, and they weren't letting people in the hospital. So she was admitted for the night. I don't know why they didn't scan here stomach immediately and had booked it for the next morning, but after few hours of admission, her colon had ruptured. She had septic shock and very hard surgery. Because she was so old, and she had pre-existing conditions, she was in medically induced coma for a week or so. Thankfully she recovered, but those 5 weeks were very scary. She had her colon removed and has a stomia bag. But after that time she is a bit demented. She doesn't remember recent events, sometimes doesn't remember her children and grandchildren, always speaks about her childhood and asks for her parents. She forgets that she has stomia bag, and tries to rip it off. It's really heart breaking.

Yikes! This is my story waiting to happen! I've had insomnia all my life (I'm now 65). Starting in my 30s, I started abusing alcohol to be able to sleep (in the form of passing out). About 15 years ago, my doctor started proscribing quietapine and a generic lunesta. This was almost a life-changing event. For the first time in my life, I was able to have some regular sleep schedule. However some nights, I would "top off" my meds with some of the nameless sleep/pain med that comes in the purple label that begins with Zzzz..... I guess I will be a lot careful about dosages now.

I've had chronic insomnia for most of my life and I had one experience with medication for it that was so negative (ambien) that I basically swore off trying to medicate it away. I find that it's manageable to some degree through lifestyle choices - exercise, cutting out complex carbohydrates and limiting things like screen time an hour or two before I want to sleep.
I'll be honest here - I think a lot of problems that people have come from poor lifestyles and that medication isn't really a fix when your root cause is something like your diet or (lack of) physical activity.

This is why I don't buy ANY over the counter medications without consulting my doctor.
This is why I only use prescription medications only in accordance with the required dosage and only for the time period recommended by my doctor.
This is why, if I do use any over the counter medications, I use the bare minimum dosage and times needed for the results needed.
And despite this, or perhaps in addition, due to the restrictions now placed upon me by 14CFR91, I no longer take ANY over the counter medications.

I started watching your videos before I began an advanced chemistry course as an adult, and now that I am well-immersed in chemistry, I understand (in a rudimentary sense) and appreciate your in-depth explanations of what exactly happens inside the human body. Dude, being awake for 24 hours is tough. Being awake for 48 is insane. I once went 4 full days without sleep and even thinking about it makes me anxious.

I went a week once, when I was 17. I didn't want to sleep though. My mum was ill ( dying) and I was scared to sleep in case she died while I was asleep. I'd doze off for literally 5 minutes and jerk awake and panic.

@@dfailsthemost I don't really....well I do sometimes . I've always been a night owl to be honest, so what I told you about was probably made easier due to that...easier in the sense of being able to stay awake I mean. I have severe chronic insomnia- back when I self medicated it with alcohol I went 70 days without proper sleep (only knocked myself out with booze for 4 hours every night). It ended up with me developing mania/psychosis like state. It is not a fun illness, I take anti-psych medication for it now. (Last line treatment)

Wow thank you for this post. So very informative and helpful to the General Public. Drug interactions are a very serious problem. Especially when people mix over the counter as well as online purchased supplements with their prescriptions.
Keep up the education. You answered a question that has been on my mind since 2015 when I was admitted to the hospital for a medical mistake my doctor did that basically damaged my lungs to the point I'm on extremely high dose life support level oxygen. But that's not what they were worried about they were worried about the doxycycline I take for my stomach 3 times a day. Unfortunately without it I cannot eat. Do to a brain injury just like you said the neurotransmitters of my brain trimmer the interior muscles even worse than my exterior muscles to the point there's no possibility of digestion without the common medication. If I miss even just a 12-hour period getting off schedule my stomach goes into a huge roiling fits and shuts down and does not allow bowel movement. It is an embarrassing, hard to deal with condition that leaves you questioning every day how is my day going to be but I have really put together a good nutritious eating program and let go of any precooked chemically Laden Etc types of foods and drink. Anything that could cause harm to my digestive tract in any way has been put by the wayside. Being able to enjoy life since the 6th gastroenterologist figured it out yeah that's how many it took makes every day without pain precious.

I am an independent thinking individual so my tastes must confuse the left's minded person in charge of notifying bc I do not get consistent notifications (this is the conclusion I have drawn) so notifications have become worthless.

The titles sound clickbaity and they also are a little clickbait in a way. Most people reading the title of this video for example will think it implies direct causation ("What? Not sleeping for 9 days did that to her!?"), but it is in fact always indirect (The lack of sleep led her to consume increasing amounts of medicine in various combinations in an attempt of get some rest, leading to the presented issue).
Another example is the "A grandma ate 1 pound of chocolate in 6 hours, this is what happened to her brain". People will click of the video wanting to know why chocolate is bad for your brain, since this is what the title implies, but in reality (Spoilers for that video I guess?) the brain problems were caused by the elderly woman becoming constipated because of the excessive chocolate intake and rupturing a blood vessel in her brain while forcing on the toilet.
So yeah, I consider these clickbait, but here the content with worth the click, so I don't complain.

Still very much clickbait. These kinds of videos thrive by lumping two, seemingly unrelated, things together to hook you into wanting to know how one could possibly lead to the other. Example: "A man never masturbated. This is what happened to his face." See? Now you want to know out how could premise A possibly lead to the conclusion.
