Guys, Adam isn't saying you wouldn't have liked bacon without the advertisements, just that it wouldn't have been as worshiped as it was now. Also, he's not saying that people didn't know how it was unhealthy, the issue is HOW unhealthy...
Thank God someone finally addressed this. I've always wondered why people are so obsessed with bacon. I mean, it's ok I guess, but people seem to go crazy over it.
If you handed me bacon and I never once had seen an ad for it prior to eating it for the first time, I'd still love it as much as I do. It's just straight up delicious.
It's really not that bad. An increase of 20% of colorectal cancer means your chance would have been 4% without bacon, and 5% with. Not that big a deal, I'd say.
I don't eat bacon, but any associated health concerns are relatively insignificant. Sugar is seriously thousands of times worse, and even ordinary bread is less healthy than bacon.
Right but if you think about it, that's not THAT much. One could eat a hotdog one day, pepperoni pizza the next, then absentmindedly have some bacon with breakfast the next day or a bacon cheeseburger. Now that I'm looking through my own diet, I'm realizing that I'm eating this processed meat, way more often than I thought.
@@red_dll Yeah sure. You can come over and cook me some fresh fish. Lol. I'm recently, as they say, back on the market. Therefore home cooked meals have become a bit scarce around here. But that's just me. For others, yeah, go for it. That sounds great. My point was only that it can be easier than one might think to eat this stuff more often than you might think. Because that was my first thought too. "More than once a day? Who eats THAT much processed meat." Well as it turns out, I do. Lol.
1980's Reagan Era also pushed to use more chemicals in lawns and gardens. While pushing to stop warnings of cancers from it. Adam should make a video about that too.

A bit of an over-exaggeration on the "bacon causes cancer" bit. Any item we consume is poisonous at the right dose, even stuff that is healthy for you (he stated this when talking about toxins), the item found in Bacon that is most commonly thought of to cause cancer is the Nitrates used in the curing process, the same process nitrates does to cure the bacon also makes free-radicals that can damage DNA, but the fact is you would have to be eating a lot of the stuff to cause any issue, (the U.S did this for the army to try and decrease male labeto). As an apprentice funeral director, I have more of a risk for cancer from my job than from eating a baconator on occasion, heck pouring gasolene can cause cancer, that's why its called a risk and not a guaranteed outcome. The fat in bacon is gonna cause more harm in the sense of acid reflux than the nitrates are, as long as your arent living off bacon all day every day you aren't gonna see any real negative effects. But don't take my word, I am not a scientist on the subject, I am just giving my opinion. Just fact check both sides of the argument before forming a conclusion.
I like how we blame a fast food chain called Hardee's but the reality of it is is the pork industry had started this blitz about bacon back in the 1950s through your grocery store and how they did that was they marketed bacon as part of breakfast but not just any breakfast it was marketed as the breakfast of farmers when in fact most Farmers really didn't eat bacon and eggs for breakfast!!
It actually started just before the depression and kinda had a hiatus because no one could afford anything and then resurfaced after and came to popularity in the 50s. They've been trying to force bacon for the last century.
@@Riley-te3mk no it started literally post-war. Though I will say that blacks and others ate it pre war it was cheap and most people didn't want it. The only other people that can ate it, were Farmers thoygh it is more of a treat to them but as far as people in the city going to go to the grocery store no bacon was considered trash pre war. Pork rinds was either a treat or considered bar food.
“Even if you eat just 50 grams of processed meat per day, some estimates show your risk of colorectal cancer increases by nearly 20%!” Really, Adam? I normally like your show, but don't you think this is kind of disingenuous, ESPECIALLY after you did that segment on how being 40 or above may double the chance of birth defects, but only from 0.5% to 1%? In the _very article you cite_ (www.theguardian.com/news/2018/mar/01/bacon-cancer-processed-meats-nitrates-nitrites-sausages), it says that eating processed meat every day can increase your chances of getting bowel cancer by 20%… but you already only had an average chance of about 5%. Meaning you'd have to eat processed meat *every day* for *decades* just to up it to a whopping 6%. And yeah, that's a big change in the aggregate, but it's still _really_ small on a personal basis, barely worth mentioning. Bacon is bad for you, sure. But let's not exaggerate and scare-monger like you so often accuse _everyone else_ of doing.
Ok it might be because I’m an Australian and our health and food laws are much stricter but I thought most people would already know about half of that stuff. Also I had no clue so many bacon products existed
I doubt he can no doubt it has harms milk dont have but usually it has benefits too that you can use milk dont have as result its a tradeoff... like everything you eat.
Oh my god, I'm not the only one, but maybe it's because last night I most perfect slices of bacon I've ever had, it was light, crispy, and looked exactly as the product should, it was just like a Potato Chip
Umm, actually! An average person has about 5% chance of colorectal cancer, a 20% increase in the chance of colorectal cancer means that now the same average joe has about 6% chance of developing said cancer.
My background covers half of Asia, one of which is Hakka... we specialise in pork and love pork belly! And we're not even in the top 50 countries with the highest cancer deaths?
These things aren't actually that expensive (unless you're crazy enough to buy them from a restaurant, of course), but all that bread would definitely give you very high chances of becoming obese.
Quite the opposite, it's all about what you eat. I lost 20 kilos because I didn't eat any carbs, and in that time I was stuffing my face with pork, eggs and lots and lots of butter. It's of course possible to lose weight by going calorie-negative even if you eat absolute garbage like sugar and wheat, but I wouldn't recommend it. There are really nasty side-effects and you'll likely regain weight very quickly unless you carefully start monitoring calories. It's better to just ignore calories entirely and simply eat things that don't make you fat. No sugar, no wheat and no corn is a really good start.
@@maryandchild It absolutely is possible. It's absolutely insane to believe that the biological mechanics for energy use and storage are are simple as "calories in, calories out". Digestion is a billion times more complex than that.
Your grandparents are alive and both nearly 100? And have been eating bacon since birth? Impressive. I don’t remember anything I ate before the age of 5.
Actually, this video is slightly misleading in one place. Whilst it is true that eating processed meats in the given amounts increases your odd of getting cancer by 20%, this stat means nothing without knowing the original odds of getting cancer. For example if the control groups gets cancer with odds 50%, then the processed meat eaters get it with odds 60%. However if the the control group odds are only 0.5%, the processed meat eaters get it with odds of 0.6%. So the impact of the "increases your odd of getting cancer by 20%" depends very much on the odd of the control group getting cancer. As another example, going to the beach twice a year instead of once, increases your odds of being shot be a swimming dog with a hand gun in it's mouth by 100%. Since the control group's (people who go once a year) odds of being shot be a swimming dog with a hand gun in it's mouth are pretty much insignificant (not 0 but very close), the odd of the same event for people who go the beach twice a year are also pretty much insignificant. Always state the control groups odds as well as the percentage increase, because on it's own the percentage increase means nothing.
Actually Adam, bacon has been around since about 1500 BC. Long before fast food with have invented. And long before the "pork bord" so much missinform in this video.
Would you say enjoy your cigarettes in moderation? Probably not. NO CARCINOGEN IS GOOD IN MODERATION. And no amount of animal cruelty is good in moderation.
He forgot about the bacon dental floss and bacon toothpaste LOL
“Even if you eat just 50 grams of processed meat per day, some estimates show your risk of colorectal cancer increases by nearly 20%!”
Really, Adam?
_"But I'm so good at eating hot dogs!"_
_"Someone must warn Kobayashi!"_
What?
2:45 maybe they were named after Kevin Bacon
Just ask Kevin's brother, Bacon Bacon.
Jack in the Box started serving bacon on their burger as early as 1980. Both then and now, it’s not that much bacon but rather enough.
"Someone must warn Kobiyashi"
Ken Danger QUICK WE MUST WARN HIM BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!
I’m watching this while eating bacon
Show this video to Jim Gaffigan lol
::Links on every Keto page and site:: And now we wait
“Bacon causes CANCER!!”
We here for a good time, not a long time 😂😂
Speak for yourself. In addition to living longer, eating right means living healthier for the time we are alive. Hard to enjoy life if you are sick.
I'd prefer both thanks. You're Welcome to pick one or the other
Ok it might be because I’m an Australian and our health and food laws are much stricter but I thought most people would already know about half of that stuff. Also I had no clue so many bacon products existed
Bacon lube, for when you REALLY like bacon
Next vid- Adams ruins breathing
@@BrutallyHonestRevs once you start breathing, if you stop for just a few minutes, you'll die. Breathing. Not even once.
Breathing is most addictive thing known
its really dangerous
once you stop its consumption you will die usually within few minutes
"Someone just warn kobayashi.." 🤣🤣🤣
Can you ruin yogurt
I doubt he can
no doubt it has harms milk dont have but usually it has benefits too that you can use milk dont have
as result its a tradeoff... like everything you eat.
@@makaramuss I heard it's not as beneficial as they say it is
Yeah, it is similar to #kombucha
Pop culture meme factory is my favourite word now
He pretty much destroyed the entire meat industry.
At the end of the day, it's all processed.
Nonsense.
Adam:With eating bacon it can increase the likes of getting cancer
75% of the population: Am I a joke to you
This makes me want to eat bacon more.
Norman Fong greedy pig.
You WANT colon cancer??
The corporations love you!
Oh my god, I'm not the only one, but maybe it's because last night I most perfect slices of bacon I've ever had, it was light, crispy, and looked exactly as the product should, it was just like a Potato Chip
But....cancer
Literally, #1 food people bring up when they find out I don't eat meat. "WHAT ABOUT BACON THO, DURRR."
I’ve probably had bacon in my life less than 5 times and I never liked it and this is weirdly affirming
Interesting how Bacon is literally now in low supply over a smart marketing plan.
2:44, does that include Kevin Bacon?
Now for "Adam Ruins Vegetables"!
Needs more Bacon
Adam is right like always
Bacon smell gives me headaches. Im gonna try to cut it out.
Umm, actually! An average person has about 5% chance of colorectal cancer, a 20% increase in the chance of colorectal cancer means that now the same average joe has about 6% chance of developing said cancer.
when you've watched cowspiracy years ago so you already knew this
That was more oriented to the environment. Check out the documentary "Forks Over Knives."
Meanwhile, we Europeans have been enjoying bacon for centuries without any advertising.
BACON!!!!!! Mmmmmmmmmm, tastes good. OK, so it isn't so good for you, but that's OK.
That's ok for your final meal before an execution. Otherwise...
The cancer risk increases from 5% to 5.9% which is an 18% increase but the way he presented it was a little misleading
*Laughs in vegan*
My background covers half of Asia, one of which is Hakka... we specialise in pork and love pork belly! And we're not even in the top 50 countries with the highest cancer deaths?
It’s processed meats that’s the problem
There are many factors. Bacon is one. A lack of exercise is another. And an overabundance of sodas is yet another.
I think bacon sold itself. Have you tried it?
does it taste like chicken?
I have. Tastes like burnt car tires
As a brown man, everytime I've said no bacon people think I'm Muslim. It's easier to just say no rather than no thanks it's extremely bad for you.
be right back, gonna go eat some bacon
A parody of this video could've been adam burning the bacon
“If you eat a club sandwich or a hotdog every day” if you did that you would be obese and very low on money
These things aren't actually that expensive (unless you're crazy enough to buy them from a restaurant, of course), but all that bread would definitely give you very high chances of becoming obese.
with obesity, it doesn't really matter what you eat, it matters how much.
@@BigSlimyBlob you literally could not possibly have lost weight without a caloric deficit. it literally is not humanly possible.
@@maryandchild It absolutely is possible. It's absolutely insane to believe that the biological mechanics for energy use and storage are are simple as "calories in, calories out". Digestion is a billion times more complex than that.
I would like to know more on this topic can you please list the sources you recieved your information from?
Google
World Health Organization + processed meat.
GRANDPARENTS BORN IN THE LATE 1920S JUST SAID THIS GUY IS FULL OF BULL THEY BEEN EATING BACON ALL THE TIME SINCE THEY WERE BORN
Your grandparents are alive and both nearly 100? And have been eating bacon since birth? Impressive. I don’t remember anything I ate before the age of 5.
The Office! It took me 4 mins to figure out where I recognise the butcher from!
I just now literally made a very delicious bacon sandwich and I love it and going to have it again tomorrow
Light up a cigarette to go with it. That'll show him!
Doesn’t matter if you listened to the video and not what other videos said you’d know that it doesn’t matter when it was invented but how it was sold
@@muddlen7928 except, that's wrong too especially the claim that it's a processed food.
@@aemt4u So you're saying there wasn't a push in the 1980s to market bacon?
Someone actually named their own CHILD, BACON, is there anyone here named Bacon
Why are all the things I like cause cancer
I love this show
Well first of all to much of anything is bad. Just enjoy it in moderation and work out with balanced meals and you will be fine
Would you say enjoy your cigarettes in moderation? Probably not. NO CARCINOGEN IS GOOD IN MODERATION. And no amount of animal cruelty is good in moderation. There's zero scientific evidence to back up what you say. A whole foods plant based diet is not bad, not even if you do it "too much". And how can you ENJOY eating a dead animal who was tortured his whole life and had his throat slit just because the system wanted you to eat his muscles and grease?
Man i didn’t know Riz/Kugrash and Fabian/Kingston love bacon so much
....Why does this keep getting reuploaded?
Big bacon?
From the beginning of this year, I stopped eating land animals. I no longer have swollen legs and my health is definitely improving.
watched and still love bacon. You failed.
Or, is it YOU whomst has failed?
The teacher taught well enough; the "student" failed to listen to the teacher; the "student" fails the test; yet, the "student" claims the teacher has failed? LOL! You are HILARIOUS!
I don't care if it gives me cancer I love bacon
I'm still going to eat bacon, I'm here for a good time not a long time ^w^
