I love the GMT800. I’ve only had the suburban version, which is amazing. I bought my burb online for $2,300. It’s an 05 Z71 4x4. It had 350K miles and it now has 365K miles. I want a crew cab pickup version 1500-3500 dually. The round eye was the last good looking Chevy pickup truck in my opinion. If i buy a round eye, i would have to convert the front clip to round eye. The cateye is FUGLY. I have a 96 k1500 Silverado Z71 that has been modified. I do wish more of the older GM trucks came with black interiors. My Burb has tan interior and the 96 has that blue interior like my old crown vic has. I love the 9 passenger suburbans. Mine isnt that, it is a 7 passenger. I may look for a clean 9 passenger one or may look into an interior swap.

@@Wicked_RotF30 i am personally partial to the 01 02 high hood chevy’s. Not a fan of cat eye

Im running 285/70/17s on my burb. Ive seen 285/75/17s on stock ride height. My dash vents dont work. Luckily my roof air still blows. But I can’t get any defrost or anything out of the dash. It worked intermittently at first and now it doesn’t work at all. Figuring out depending on the repair cost, could get used black dash etc to start the black interior conversion, or if the cost is too much, may look for a black suburban with the black 9 passenger setup that i want. And just use the Z71 as a camper.

Thats the second time I’ve been told about the hitch situation. I posted on Reddit r/gmt800 that i was wanting to overland across country with the burb and use a motorcycle hitch carrier for an Indian Scout motorcycle.

@@Wicked_RotF30 ya iv seen the round tubes rip right off rust or no rust. A good square tube is the way to go. Gm used the same round tube hitch in a dually duramax to a 1500. That was a bit of a fail.

I would say one of the main reasons where I am that these trucks that now have numerous years under their belt and that includes all brands that find themselves one step away from the dump if not already in the boneyard, is rust wiping out not only the bodies but fuel and brake lines and the frames and suspension rotted away. Salt and calcium chloride on winter roads but also calcium chloride used on certain gravel roads for dust control. The automotive companies have made a lot of money at the expense of people who live where they spread the garbage on the roads.

@@charlesb4267 all fair. But i would say the normal life of something used daily is expected to be way shorter than 20 years and 250k miles. The fact alot of examples still put in work, is pretty amazing.
I have several rusty trucks and have no frame rust besides my yj but thats a jeep.
Interestingly my friends with frame rust generally have less body rust. I havent figured that one out yet

@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 That reminds me of Cuba ( I've not been there though ) as an example of a place where the vehicles are old as in really old but they are able to keep them on the road because they keep on repairing them and they are not rusting away from the road environment we have "created" here. But like you point out, the original mechanics of the truck does not last forever but with new long blocks put in, reman/rebuilt transmission as required ( yeah, the 4L60E LOL ), and electrical issues repaired, they could last for a long time depending on their type of use. I can't explain that either about your friends trucks with less body rust but more frame rust, that is an odd one. One thing I will say is that the enclosed ( boxed ) frame is a killer in the salt over a C channel frame as the crap gets trapped inside the frame and also they are a thinner frame then a C channel.

@ the thing is having a reliable daily allows me to enjoy keeping these old things on the road. It would be very very hard to reliably keep them on the road some 320 working days a year with only the weekend to fix something.
I just have a hard time letting things die that are mechanically interesting or useful

@@greatlakespowerstrokefx4 I hear you, having more than one vehicle is required to run older vehicles that have issues pop up. Then again some of these new vehicles over the last years on the road have not exactly proven their reliability and government sticking their nose into what crap they impose to be slapped on them is certainly playing too large of a part in that.

@ that or have two identical old vehicles so you know what you are getting into and can have one parts vehicle.
I know im not the only one who likes these old gmt800’s. I could make a video on gmt400’s too. They have their own goofyness.
That nice lifted 2500 suburban i happened on when making the video was pretty darn cool id rock it

My driver door handle failed. I think it’s just a clip that fell off, i hope i can just replace the clip instead of entire door handle.

Usually you can if you can still find one. Iv had good luck with my door handles but most of my friends tend to be a bit more violent with their door handles and it shows when they need to replace them
