Back in the '80s, Keith was asked was he afraid going solo and performing without Mick. His answer was "no, but I'm afraid performing without Charlie."

It's sad culturally, that the rock star has gone the way of the Cowboy, there is very little rebellious spirit for the youth to et behind. Not to mention people spending too much time on computers.

Charlie was subtle but very versatile. Stones music went in all directions over the years and he always kept it in groove.

All these guys are in their mid to late 70’s. Some on borrowed time. I have loved this band as far as I can remember and they were the soundtrack of my youth and my retirement years. I miss Charlie terribly, and so do they, but I will relish their decision to continue the tour and entertain their legions of fans around the world.
The shocking part about Charlie passing for me is that I always imagined he would be the last to go. He was the least wildest out the lot overall.
Same with the "sixth Stone", Ian Stewart. It's so weird.

The shocking/disconcerting thing for me is that Charlie's the first to go of essentially old age (rather than chemical or otherwise premature inducement). Calls sharply into question one's own mortality....
You will be even more shocked when Keith is the last one standing... maybe even outliving Ron Wood.

heartbreaking... amazing drummer. The feel Charlie Watts had was a killer. It pains me so much realizing he’s not with us anymore. But his contributions and drumming will be forever
Charlie Watts was the reason I decided to pick up the drums. Tumbling Dice is my go-to song to practice on. I thankfully saw the stones at the Philadelphia show before he passed away. It was one of the greatest concerts ever!

They grew up together as adults.They were more than just a popular band for each other and we also grew into our adulthood with their music which is the landscape or landmarks of our lives as well. How lucky for us to have been a part of those times in music and way of being.
Being with the Steel Wheel Tour, it seems like yesterday.. Mr. Watts, was the glue that held the group together a voice of reason, always acknowledged everyone with a look and a smile, with the exercises before stage entry...
so if he's the blue, why are they not only ROLLING on without him but starting an entirely new chapter
@@cultfilmfreakreviews he was the glue not the blue...if you listened to some interviews Mr. Watts, told them to continue on without him.. did Bruce Springsteen stop when Vinny Lopez, Danny Feteroni, or Clearance Clemmons expired, no the kept on going several other examples are available is you care to look...

This tears me up a bit. Charlie was a part of my family for many years. You grow up with these legends and they are your musical family.

It was a shock to learn that Charlie had passed away. I saw the Stones back in 2006, and they were absolutely amazing. The show must go on, but i think this is a very sad tour for Mick and the Stones.

Charlie Watts was never the most flashy drummer. He wasn't known for the frenzied solos of Cream's Ginger Baker, or for placing explosives in his kick drum like The Who's Keith Moon. Instead, he was the subtle, stoic heartbeat of The Rolling Stones for almost 60 years. We all Brazilian fans will miss Charlie. 🇧🇷
Led Zeppelin were amazing individual skilled artists while The Rolling are more of a band, they are not so skilled if you take them separately

So grateful to have seen 99 Stones shows with Charlie spanning over 40 years ❤️ also hit three shows for the 2021 tour missed Charlie but the band played on and that’s what Charlie would want ❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸

I hope Mr Stern was paying attention while Mick carefully corrected the notion that Charlie was simply a steady timekeeper. Charlie added the swing that's essential to the Stones, along with his very idiosyncratic "swerve".
I wonder why they chose that monotonous beat instead of something that danced. Charlie's died, but his drumming is in our bones. Love, blessings, thanks and praises on all the Rolling Stones.

They always ask if when it will be 'the last time' for the Stones but I can finally say this may be it. What footage I have seen left me with the sense that there was something missing, and I realized it when Mick said Charlie was the heartbeat of the band. All respect to Steve Jordan, but they are not the same band anymore. Their heart is missing.

I loved hearing that story, regarding the conversation between Charlie and Mick.
I drove Keith Richards for Detroit Super Bowl and a few other tours. Charlie Watts in the hierarchy of the band would be the lead car. It was his group.
When MJ was asked in the late 60s on advice on starting a rock/R&B band that will last more than a year or two, he replied that first you have to find a disciplined, well-behaved, & amicable jazz drummer and form the band from there.

Saw them tonight at So Fi arena. Insane!
I remember reading the story of when Charlie punched mick in the face after shaving and putting on a Saville Row suit that almost sent him out the window of Micks hotel room.
Wasn't that from Keith Richard's autobiography. I read that from his book. Mick was carrying on like a prima donna, wanting to know where "his" drummer was. That didn't go well with Charlie, went to his hotel room, and popped him one and said, I'm not your drummer.
I heard he hit him in the hotel lounge and knocked him into a plate of salmon
Charlie later said he was drunk and regretted doing that. Classy man who didnt brag about using violence.
Charlie was the best, a steady engine with artistic flair. Keith led, Charlie followed and that nanosecond difference had a lot to do with the Stones' unique sound. I really had no idea until Ronnie made an appearance on the Larry King Radio Program years ago, and explained all that.
Will never be the same yet the Rolling Stones will go on 😊
