    Thanks for watching everyone! It's a huge step for the channel to have its first sponsor, this allows me to keep the channel going. None of this would be possible without you! Thank you for watching!
    Since the first succesful Falcon 9 landing in 2015, SpaceX have drastically cut the cost of spaceflight by landing and reusing multple boosters. In this video, we look at what goes into refurbishing the Falcon 9 and how it will eventually be replaced by the cheaper and more reusable Starship.

Stop wasting valuable time having your supervisor walk from one end of the sprawling factory to the other. up to 100 flights per falcon 9 booster, not 1000. elon said 10 with little to no referbishment and up to 100 with some referbishment.

    • @user-lv7ph7hs7l
      @user-lv7ph7hs7l 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      A thousand flights per Merlin engine. Which seems about right if they want a hundred booster flights. The Merlin is fired once full duration after assembly, then integrated onto a booster, fired full duration with the 8 other engines, then the booster is shipped to the launch site, static fired for short duration. Then launch, reignition for boostback, reentry and landing burn, then the booster is shipped to a test stand and fired full duration to check it after flight. So for a single reusable flight you get anywhere from 3-5 flights worth of engine firing already. So hundred flights would be in the region of 500 for the engines, they'll probably run them on test stands even more on older boosters, so you'd want them to be able to take a thousand for margin. Obviously that's not the current state of things.

    • @theOrionsarms
      @theOrionsarms 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      1000 flight for raptor engine, not merlin, every falcon 9 will fly only ten times according to Elon Musk.(raptor it's the engine that would be used onto starship/superheavy will be used 1000th time only for superheavy and 100th time for a tanker and starship when it's launched into LEO, booster would have shorter burning why's it would be able to make tenfold more flights with the same types of engines)

  • @nisenobody8273
    @nisenobody8273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I write this almost three years after recording this video... Just a few days ago Falcon 9 made its first twelfth landing (now we can see them with much higher quality thanks to the Starlink connection, it's crazy)
    It is frankly everything that SpaceX has advanced in these years.
    Starship hasn't flown into orbit yet, mostly due to regulatory issues (in theory, we're hoping to get the green light later this month), but the Raptor engine and the entire architecture has come a long way, so we're pretty hopeful. that Starship could begin commercial operations soon after its first test flight.
    It will be very interesting to find out what will happen from now on.
