Btw, your "hardcore elitest take" on bossing is still a good take. I tried SCSSF Ruthless a few leagues ago and for the first time in like 10+ leagues of playing the game I actually felt like I needed to learn boss mechanics. They are actually pretty cool and interesting, even during the campaign.

I still learned it in softcore because I only care about movement speed boots and links on my items. I finish acts with negative resistances every leauge, then I farm foothils for like 4 hours straight while getting craft unlocks i fix my gear

i think the bridge between softcore and hardcore could happen if more people realized that on hardcore you are playing your stash tabs not your character, because most likely you are going to die so you want to position yourself so your next characters are starting off as good as they can by having currency and items, and overall don't be to attached to your character, it slowly gets easier and you die less and less often the more you play.

    • @turbanheadless

Hardcore is a different kind of game. It is not at all just a game with your tabs. It is about your mental state, the way you roll maps, the way you engage in combat and what you pay attention to is completely different. You die when you relax, you die when you try to have fun and juice maps too much or jump into enemy packs. This is really just a change in how a player has to approach the game. And that is why i almost never play hardcore, i want to relax, i love to play dangerous maps with glass cannon zoomy builds. Hc is a completely different experience mentally

I get 1 or 2 characters to maps per season and i loathe the campaign part, so much so that after dragging myself through the campaign I often times take a few days of break from PoE.
Theres no way youll get me to "learning by dying" when I have to endure like a week of trauma everytime my character dies and I have to go through the campaign again

@@TheOne23_ for me I've been playing for lots and lots of leagues, the folks who usually beat the campaign are just folks who complain because they want to try a lot of other characters but the time tax is pretty annoying. The HC rating honestly makes sense since he's talking about a newer player experience tbh. I played HC for 7 years and was the only way I enjoyed it, I cleared the campaign (which was all there was back then) on 2-3 characters on SC then went hard in HC.
If it was today I really don't see that happening, there's too much BS that can one shot you without basic game knowledge and even worse at the higher levels so the game experience would mostly be "ok what killed me this time?" and experiencing the campaign over and over early on while trying out the game would be... a 3.

As much as I agree with everything said here, I also agree with the main complaint of this game when Destiny played it, as frustrating as it is to watch him play any game now. His main issue was that 99% of the time you spend playing PoE you're in no danger, to the point that it's difficult to keep your mind alert, then suddenly you instantly die to some random shit. He much prefers more extended periods of danger, which would be endgame bossing but he never got to that, he just mapped with the goal of hitting 100. But still for many people, the majority of time spent is mapping and I agree with the sentiment there.

    • @adanos3
      @adanos3 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

This. I am a fairly new player with just a handfull of characters past the campaign and not even at the point where i would be 99% safe. But even when trying to go as tanky as possible (with great detriments to kill speed) there can be a oneshot waiting behind every corner. And nothing in the game tells me why i died. I have no problem with redoing my build if it has major flaws, but i at least need the oportunity to learn what the flaw is.
And the fact you can still get oneshot if you do everything right (looking at long time hardcore players here) sounds like a major design flaw to me. Threat has to be part of the game, but there needs to be a window of opportunity to react to it.
I just started playing again after a break and those oneshots will most likely be what will make me put away the game again at some point. Im playing softcore so dying is not that bad, but randomly dying without reaction window and feedback is not fun. Aside from that PoE is an amazing game tho :P

e.g. not showing the damage you took recently because they can't show the damage you took from ailments.
also I don't have an example off of the top of my head but there's been a few times where they made the exact same mistake, like fixing a mob's attack that's obnoxious, and like 3 leagues later have the exact same issue.

I'm actually fresh, playing the game and I really like it, but the drops from mobs are so confusing as I have no idea what to pick up etc, even tho i played diablo torchlight and simillar titles before. The game has so much in it that it starts to overwhelm me and I didnt even finish the campaign yet... 26 hours in and still act 8 because I spend so much time around to analize what should i do what should i pick up etc xD

I’m 24 hours in and level 20. Playing completely blind.
It feels like a mindless kill trash mob game with tons of mini quests that just doesn’t feel like I’m actually progressing though a story campaign.
Identifying items has been my biggest gripe. I have tons of rares in stash because it doesn’t drop the wisdom scrolls enough and spending too much time selling items for pieces of a scroll.
Having unlimited life and mana (because the difficulty scaling is so low) has been fun enough to not take this game too seriously
It’s definitely a hop on and kill some enemies with free time type of game for me.
Still learning how to craft and just following the skill tree as a fire type witch.
No guides no friends I’d give it a solid 8/10 we’ll see how it goes past act 2

i dont mind the campaign and i agree that at the beginning of league you should have to do it. BUT i feel after u beat it on 1 char in a league u should be able to start at maps at lvl 70. the biggest thing keeping ppl from making alts is having to do the campaign or multiple builds in a league. granted it makes lvling uniques generally worthless but meh.

Things I think would make PoE instantly better:
    - Have the atlas tree be character specific. Yes I would like to make a character for bossing and a character for mapping but it feels fucking terrible having to respec the tree if I decide to switch up gameplay for a day or something.
    - BULK item auction house. Manual trade is cool in small doses but it's really not adding any fun to the game having to spend hours upon hours every league trading for small shit, especially with all the fake listings that have zero consequence. Keep manual trade for items you don't buy in bulk like gear, but automate eveything you're likely to buy repeatedly and in large quantity. I know there could be an argument that it'd be bad for the economy but again at a certain point UX and fun is more important than spreadsheet gaming.
    - Cut back juuust slightly on crafting restrictions. Who cares if .00001% of characters end up with a mirror tier item instead of .0000001%? Crafting such items is astronomical enough without the arbitrary restrictions like, for example, being unable to imprint a fractured item. I love PoE's crafting complexity but I don't necessarily think it should be an unrealistic goal for most top 1% players to eventually craft a near-mirror item at some point in their PoE career.

19:59 I totally understand their take. It *is* frustrating how GGG repeatedly makes similar mistakes (DD is a poor example, a better one is how they massively overtune league mechanics to the point that only a handful of builds can even DO them past a medium breakpoint, let alone efficiently. Both Affliction and Ancestor were like that but especially Affliction you need an INSANE build to just play it intuitively). The fact that PoE is the best ARPG does not make all criticism invalid. Best =/= perfect. No one is saying that GGG shouldn't be creative and take risks. No one is saying that Diablo developers do it better. All that was said is GGG could do a better job of learning from past mistakes.

My biggest complaint about the current PoE is that mapping feels like shit unless you have currency to juice it or are running MF. Especially since the Sentinel currency nerf and the Alter nerfs. It is very noticeable if you are doing SSF or self-crafting and not liquidating everything. They really need to prune the top end in PoE 1 and move the reward curve back down.
