I used to watch this all the day back in the day as a kid and after getting my degree as a software engineer and thinking I would make really cool things, I got sat down on a new project today at my job and realized that I'm just copy pasting the same fix to old code across thousands of files. It just took 15 years, but I'm the monkey now.
i remember my dad showing me this when i was a kid when he used to play world of warcraft and i thought it was funny and now i realize that a lot of us are code monkeys
I was thinking the same thing when I was little but by the time I got into college my professor told me all the codes were just lua files and plug in script. I’m minoring in computer now. But still I hold everything done in high regards…We’re not using windows XP anymore😢
Ah Code Monkey, the perfect song to describe life as a programmer. Our office actually brought in Tab and Mountain Dew as a tribute when this song first came out, lol.
So since this was basically how my "code monkey" husband and I met and fell in love, and he introduced me to WoW, I always get a bit emotional watching this lol. Can't believe it's been this long!
This is seriously one of my favorite youtube videos of all time. The perfection of using in game animations and simple video edits make this one of a kind
Spiff, I've got to say, your work is incredible. I've seen almost all of your videos, and I can't complain about a single one. John Coulton is an amazing singer and songwriter, and these videos do him justice. Kudos to you, mate.

I love this song! It always makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I listen to it when I'm sad and it always makes me feel better. Thanks Jonathan Coulton!

Interesting how this was used as the theme for the G4 show Code Monkeys. That new streaming service Peacock has Code Monkeys on it and i got to relive the G4 magic again over 10 years later. This is the first time i enjoyed the full song. Reliving the show was cool.
My 4 year old walked up as I watched this video and said "That's a game!" I said yes it was a video made with a game. He said "I want to play that game!!!" I think he's a few years off WoW! I've prob watching this video more times than any other vide on here, I started playing WoW back in 2006 and a friend in game sent me the link to this in early 2007 and I was hooked, it's just that super simple catching punkish guitar riffs and his voice is perfect for the song.
